Syracuse Chiefs have plenty of fun planned for fans this year
O
pening Day at NBT Bank Stadium is just around the corner and the Syracuse Chiefs have lots in store for fans this year. On Thursday, April 12, the Chiefs take to the field with a 2:05 p.m. game against the Norfolk Tides. Gates open at noon and the first 1000 fans receive a free Trapper Hat courtesy of Gannon Pest Control and the Syracuse Chiefs. It’s a nod to our cold weather and the start of this year’s overarching promotional theme of “Season of Central New York,” said Jason Smorol, general manager. “We saw the pride and how much our community embraced our Salt Potato promotion last year so we decided to up the local flavor this year and truly celebrate our home here in CNY,” said Smorol. This year the Chiefs are recognizing and paying tribute to some of the things that make our hometown unique. On May 12 they are partnering with Upstate Comprehensive Stroke Center to add a “Wonderful Wizard of Oz” theme to their an-
nual Strike Out Stroke night. Chittenango is considered the birthplace of Oz and on this night the players will be wearing special Scarecrow uniforms to auction off and the first 1,000 fans will get a “Scooch Crow” bobblehead. Thursday, May 31, the Chiefs will once again change their name like they did last year with the Salt Potatoes but this time they will become “The Devices” for one night only. This unique promotion is a salute to the Brannock Device, the marvel that properly measures your feet for shoes and not only was invented in Syracuse but is still made here today.
