A
s your Interim Head of School, I am challenged to be, at once, a quick study but also a disciplined and patient learner. There were things I needed immediately—such as names and routines. But I also spent the summer learning as much as I could about Eagle Hill’s unique school culture by listening to the personal stories of each faculty/staff member – many times on Zoom. My questions were simple: What path brought you here? What keeps you motivated? What are your future ambitions? I soon learned that your school is largely defined by a rare collection of well-trained, loyal, and ambitious (not for themselves, but for their students) teachers. What a gratifying first impression!
At the end of my first week a letter arrived from a former administrator at Eagle Hill and member of the Charter Leadership Team that founded Eagle Hill. Hearing that Eagle Hill had appointed new leadership, he sent me the very appropriate sailors’ maxim that “We can’t direct the wind but we can adjust the sails.” This gentleman went on to be a Head of School and knows all too well that our job is often just a series of small adjustments to keep us on course.
The winds of COVID-19 have been challenging, and thanks to the efforts of Assistant Head of School Tom Cone and his planning committee, we opened with full on-campus instruction with all the necessary precautions in place. A Search Update
I
hope you have had a joyful and healthy return to Eagle Hill School this fall. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am writing to update you on the progress that has been made in our search for a new permanent Head of School. There has been a high degree of interest in this position due to Eagle Hill’s excellent reputation. Even with the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the search has remained on pace.

The Halsch Family (Tom, Shepard, and Matthew) live in Darien and have been part of the Eagle Hill community since 2017. EHS student Matthew is in his fourth year at Eagle Hill and is in the Lower School.
Brandon graduated from Eagle Hill in 1987 after attending for seven years. The Lacoff Family (Brandon, Allison, and Zachary) live in Greenwich and Zachary is now in his second year at Eagle Hill in our Lower School.

You make all the difference! LAST SPRING, WE COULD NEVER HAVE IMAGINED all the ways in which we would need to plan for opening this fall. The Administrative Team had to rethink how students are grouped in our Upper and Lower schools and Foundations classes, how we move through the campus, lunch distribution, participation in sports and afternoon activities, among many other components of a “normal� school day. With the hard work of our dedicated faculty, we have happily welcomed our students back to campus this fall. Your gifts to the Eagle Hill Fund ensured that we had the resources needed to make our campus safe for students to return and accessible to students learning from home. Enhancements such as tents for open air classrooms, new air filtration systems in the buildings, new Smartboards, and additional staff for the health office are just some of the changes we have made to comply with the new protocols and keep our students, faculty, and staff healthy and safe. Your gifts directly impact these projects as well as others for our school community. As our expert faculty work to keep our students progressing academically, your continued support will be more important than ever. This year, the Board of Trustees has increased the amount of financial aid available by 20% to support families who have been adversely impacted by the current economic conditions.
