President’s report Jean-Jacques Biteau looks forward to a further year as president of EAGE Following the Board’s approval and resolution accepted at the June 2018 Annual General Meeting in Copenhagen, I have agreed to continue in office for 2018-19. Last year’s vice president Juan Soldo informed the Board that he felt unable to fulfill the demands of the role of president to the extent that members would expect. I salute the integrity of his decision and personally thank him for his contribution to EAGE in the last two years as a Board member.

My aspirations for the Association have not changed. I intend to continue working with the Board to best serve the membership in a period of transition. At the successful 2018 Annual Conference & Exhibition in Copenhagen, attended by over 5000 participants, the discussion focused on energy transition.

It was clear from many of the technical sessions, forums and special interest group meetings that the professions we serve are aware a watershed moment is approaching in terms of the direction our disciplines may lead in the decades to come. The more general refocusing of the Association is reflected in the continuing growth of the Near Surface Division, now up to 29% of the membership from 20% three years ago.

The mission of my colleagues and I on the Board is to ensure that the Association can meet this transition challenge. It means providing new services and opportunities while continuing to supply professional support for the majority of our membership which for some time to come will continue to be focused on the oil and gas industry.

Our annual Near Surface event, this year in Porto, is a good example of how we are extending our geoscience reach, with an event that

includes parallel conferences on shallow marine geophysics and geophysics for mineral exploration and mining. In November this year we will be holding an EAGE geothermal workshop in Strasbourg.

We also continue to support sustainable initiatives like the EAGE/ SEG Workshop last August in Trondheim and Fifth CO2 Geological Storage Workshop scheduled for November 2018. And with the next generation of geoscientists in mind, we are introducing the Minus CO2 Challenge as a student competition.

Your Board is very conscious that all Association activities must pay due regard to the budget constraints within the organization and outside in many companies and academic/research institutions. One of my chosen themes as president has been to return EAGE to a sustainable positive budget. This will be achieved in 2018 thanks to hard work at head office on cost control and reductions. Part of this strategy involves being always open to cooperation with other professional societies such SEG, AAPG and SPE to help avoid unnecessary duplication or to widen the scope of an event.

I look forward to working again with the Board and staff, and to a continuing dialogue with members worldwide on the current and future strategy of the Association. Finally I must also thank my employer Total for extending its support for another presidential year.

ABOUT EAGE THE EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF GEOSCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS (EAGE) IS A GLOBAL PROFESSIONAL, NOT-FOR-PROFIT ASSOCIATION FOR GEOSCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS WITH APPROXIMATELY 19,000 MEMBERS WORLDWIDE. IT PROVIDES A GLOBAL NETWORK OF COMMERCIAL AND ACADEMIC PROFESSIONALS TO ALL MEMBERS. THE ASSOCIATION IS TRULY MULTI-DISCIPLINARY AND INTERNATIONAL IN FORM AND PURSUITS.

All members of EAGE are professionally involved in (or studying) geophysics, petroleum exploration, geology, reservoir engineering, mining and mineral exploration, civil engineering, tunneling and environmental matters.

The objectives of the Association are to promote the development and application of geosciences and related engineering subjects, to promote innovation and technical progress and to foster communication, fellowship and cooperation between those working in, studying or otherwise interested in these fields.

EAGE serves its members from the Head Office in the Netherlands and the five regional offices in Houten, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Moscow and Bogota.

BOARD Every year in spring, the members of EAGE elect the new EAGE Board. The new Board is presented during EAGE’s Annual Conference & Exhibition. The EAGE Board consists of 10 professionals in various fields with an academic and / or an industry background. The Board plays an important advisory role in the activities that EAGE offers throughout the year. New in the 2018-2020 Board are Peter Lloyd, Colin MacBeth, Caroline Le Turdu, Aart-Jan van Wijngaarden and George Apostolopoulos. We would like to thank our Board members of 2017-2018 for their valuable contribution to EAGE and wish the new Board members all the best in their new positions.

DIVISIONAL COMMIT TEES EAGE operates two divisions: the Oil & Gas Geoscience Division and the Near Surface Geoscience Division. For both divisions, a committee is in place. The purpose of the Oil and Gas Geoscience Division is to represent and promote the interests of its members and to ensure that each of the Oil and Gas ­Geoscience disciplines of geo­physics, geology and reservoir engineering is adequately represented ­within EAGE and its functional commit­tees. The Near Surface Geoscience Division represents the interests of its members who work in geophysical, geotechnical, environmental, hydrogeological, archaeo­logical and other fields of investigation of the shallow subsurface.

COMMIT TEES In addition to the Board and Divisional Committees, EAGE also has a number of permanent committees in place. The committees of EAGE consist of profession­als from the field advising EAGE about a certain topic, such as the technical programme, education matters, research, membership affairs and more.

We would like to thank all volunteers from the committees for their efforts over the past year.

COOPERATION

AND COMMUNITIES EAGE interacts with its communities, local chapters, sister organizations, and associated societies and holds them close at heart. In line with its mission to cater for the worldwide geoscience and engineering community, EAGE has strengthened existing ties in 2017-2018, welcomed new cooperations and continued to develop initiatives started in previous years.

COMMUNITIES One of the main goals of EAGE is to serve our members better globally. Therefore, the Association focuses on the development of its communities. At the center of our efforts to further enhance membership value are EAGE’s special interest communities as well as international communities, such as local and student chapters.

They serve as platforms where members meet and exchange information, experiences and knowledge in specific fields that they are most interested in.

WOMEN IN GEOSCIENCE AND ENGINEERING (WGE SIC) The Women in Geoscience and Engineering Special Interest Community aims to be a worldwide reference group for women in geosciences and engineering. It was created by EAGE to facilitate communication amongst its members about gender equality and to promote the active participation of women in EAGE related activities.

Its mission is to enable exchange and mutual support among all EAGE members for increased professional competitiveness and retention of women in the geoscience/engineering industry through promoting scientific knowledge, mentoring and guidance on career development.

Explaining the mission, 2015–2017 chairperson Caroline Le Turdu stated: “Being part of the EAGE Group helped me increase my network in a brand new and interesting direction. Sharing posts, ideas, experiences, and solutions with the committee and other members of the group certainly had a huge impact on the way I am now envisioning my career and family life and making it all work in a great synergy!”

The WGE SIC is led by a committee of five EAGE members currently serving for the period 2017-2019. While using a dedicated LinkedIn group as the main online communication platform, the community members meet and engage in person every year during the EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition, during which they organize a special session. In Copenhagen the session consisted of a keynote speech by Marit Brommer (IGA), followed by a panel discussion. The fast growing community currently consists of over 1130 members.

“Working within the group helped me to grow personally, improved my interaction with colleagues, expand my network and foremost it offered me the opportunity to meet, and exchange ideas with amazing people, professionals that I look up to! In addition, working within the WGE group helped me to properly channel my interest in gender (in)equality; the enthusiasm I received from the WGE members I was able to transfer to the institute where I am currently working and organize the first joint WGE/IPGP workshop on gender equality in Geosciences.” – Milena Marjanovic (IPGP), WGE Committee Member

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS (YP SIC) The Young Professional Special Interest Community is aimed at industry professionals, aged 35 or under, in the early stages of their careers. It was created to ensure that an active community

of young professionals exists within the EAGE and that the expectations of its members can be better articulated.

The community aims to provide an ideal platform for young professionals to start establishing their presence in the industry, share experience and knowledge and be situated in the right place for networking within the global oil and gas industry. It facilitates worldwide communication between members of the network and promotes the inclusive participation of YPs in related EAGE activities. The YP Committee is due for new elections and a new team of volunteers will take responsibility for the different aspects within the YP SIC for a period of two years.

To emphasize its commitment towards the community, EAGE annually presents the Arie van Weelden Award to a young professional who has made a highly significant contribution to one or more of the disciplines in our Association. The nominations for the EAGE Awards are open every year until 31 October on the EAGE website.

The YP SIC currently consists of over 820 members. As the community keeps growing, the aim is to build on the first years’ activities. The EAGE Young Professionals use a dedicated LinkedIn group as the main on-line communication platform, as well as a dedicated session during the EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition. In Copenhagen, the session consisted of keynote speeches by Henk-Jaap Kloosterman (Shell), Peter Haffinger (Delft INversion), Anders Rossland (Aker BP), Monica Calvert and Nick Lagrillière (Total), followed by round table discussions. The 2016–2018 committee has been increasing the activity on the LinkedIn Group by weekly posting links, including interviews of young professionals, identifying speakers for external events and fostering discussions among the members. Both Special Interest Communities are exploring synergies and collaboration opportunities with the EAGE Local Chapters and Associated Societies.

LOCAL CHAPTERS Another way to reach out to our members globally is through EAGE Local Chapters. The aim of EAGE Local Chapters is to stimulate involvement within EAGE and promote the ­Association’s activities as well as geoscience in general, in a specific city, country or region. EAGE helps to support training and ­education of the members of the Local Chapter. Local Chapters encourage EAGE membership in their region and facilitate communication between local members and the EAGE Head Office. In 2018, two new Local Chapters have been established: Ireland and Houston. Every year, EAGE presents awards to the most engaged and successful Chapters. This year exceptionally, EAGE presented the Best Local Chapter prize to LC Azerbaijan and LC Saint Petersburg, and the Best Local Chapter “Newcomer” prize to LC London.

Representatives of all EAGE Local Chapters are invited to a dedicated Local Chapter Summit organized during the EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition to present their chapters’ activities, meet their colleagues from other Local Chapters and to exchange ideas and experiences.

COOPERATION As a global association, catering for individuals working in or studying geosciences and related engineering subjects across the world, EAGE continues to establish and maintain close ties with a wide variety of societies and associations.

ASSOCIATED SOCIETIES EAGE has close ties with various Associated Societies across the globe, aiming to combine local strengths and expertise of the Associated Society with an international platform and professional support of EAGE. Every year, EAGE invites representatives from all Associated S­ ocieties to attend the EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition in order to increase their international exposure and highlight their upcoming activities. Likewise, events organized by Associated Societies are often attended by a representative of the EAGE to further strengthen the ties between our associations. Also, when the opportunity arises, events are organized in close cooperation with other societies in order to best serve the community.

During 2017-2018 EAGE welcomed new cooperation agreementswith the International Geothermal Association (IGA), the Colombian Geothermal Association (AGEOCOL) and the ­Sudanese Association of Petroleum Geoscientists (SAPEG) bringing the current number of Associated Societies to 88.

SISTER SOCIETIES In addition to the Associated Societies, EAGE also aims to maintain close ties and create cooperation with its sister societies in order to serve the industry even better. These have resulted in various shared enterprises such as joint conferences and workshops on specific topics. There are currently cooperations with AAPG, EEGS, EGU, FESM, IFPEN, IGA, HAGI, PESGB, SBGf, SEG, SPE, and The Geological Society of London.

TO IMPROVE DIVERSITY AND INTERACTION BETWEEN MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION

EDUCATION

Education plays an important role within EAGE. Our education activities are directed towards students, young professionals and experienced professionals.

By organizing education activities we not only aim to spread knowledge, but also to promote innovation and technical progress in the geoscience and engineering disciplines. On top of that, sharing knowledge and experience strengthens our member communities.

Currently EAGE offers around 90 different short courses, ranging from one to five days and at various difficulty levels. The courses can be requested (either as an in-house course or open to everyone) or they are scheduled at an Education Days event or attached to a conference. In 2017, Education Days were organized in Moscow, Stavanger, London, Buenos Aires, Kuala Lumpur, Perth and Beijing.

The EAGE Education Tour (EET) is another flagship programme of EAGE, which has already attracted thousands of participants over the last few years. An EET consists of a one-day course presented by an acknowledged academic or industry expert who visits (‘tours’) several locations worldwide. The course comes with a dedicated e-book, written by the expert specifically for this Tour. These courses are designed to appeal to a wide audience, giving EAGE members from all over the world affordable access to the latest developments in the geosciences.

In 2018, two new EETs became available to our members and in 2019 another will start.

EAGE is always striving to develop new education activities that meet the demands and interests of our members worldwide. Those activities can be of any kind; online education, classroom training but also field training.

For this reason, we have developed two new education features. The first activity improves on an already existing concept. Our webinars in the Distinguished Lecturer Programme are no longer only available on demand, but are now scheduled as well. This enables EAGE to promote the webinar (a live online video presentation followed by a Q&A session with the instructor) further in advance and thereby reach out to a broader audience. Webinars are for free, but membership is required in order to register.

The other new education activity is our video series ‘How to present to a live audience’.

In this series, six seasoned presenters share their experience and advice on preparing presentations, on how to capture and keep the audience’s attention and on what they have learned over the years. The videos last no longer than 4 minutes each, making this series an easy to use and very practical education tool.

FROM 1 JANUARY 2018, THE EAGE BOARD MADE THE DECISION TO MERGE THE MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA REGIONS INTO ONE PORTFOLIO TO REORGANIZE THE ASSOCIATION’S EFFORTS THAT SUPPORT ITS CURRENT AND FUTURE MEMBERS. WHILST STILL RUNNING INDEPENDENTLY DURING THE SECOND HALF OF 2017, THE MIDDLE EAST TEAM SAW POSITIVE RESULTS WITH MORE ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS AND PARTICIPANTS TAKING PART IN THE PLANNED WORKSHOPS AND EVEN STRONGER QUALITY PROGRAMMES EMERGING FOR 2018 WORKSHOPS. DURING THIS SAME PERIOD, THE AFRICA REGION RAN ITS FIRST WORKSHOP IN WESTERN AFRICA WHILE CONTINUING TO GO FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH IN THE EAST OF AFRICA WITH THE THIRD EDITION OF THE PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCE FORUM. EAGE ALSO OFFERED SIGNIFICANT SUPPORT TO ASSOCIATED SOCIETIES IN SOUTH AFRICA AND NIGERIA THROUGH NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES AND OFFERING SHORT COURSES. FOR THE NEWLY FORMED EAGE MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA (MEA) REGION, 2018 SAW AN IMPRESSIVE LINEUP OF JOINT COLLABORATIONS ON ACTIVITIES IN NORTH AND WEST AFRICA ON SOME OF THE REGION’S BIGGEST EVENTS INCLUDING, WAIPEC, LAGOS, EGYPS, CAIRO AND NAPEC, ORAN, ALL OF WHICH RECEIVED SUPPORT FROM EAGE. EAGE’S COLLABORATION WITH ASSOCIATED SOCIETIES WAS CLEARLY SEEN WITH SIX JOINT EVENTS TAKING PLACE IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2018 AND A RENEWED COMMITMENT FROM EAGE TO STREAMLINE ITS OFFERINGS TO MEMBERS IN THE REGIONS.

THE ASIA PACIFIC OFFICE HAS BEEN EXPANDING STEADILY DESPITE THE CHALLENGING INDUSTRY CLIMATE. WITH THE AIM OF HARMONIZING MEMBER SERVICES WHILE SUSTAINING RESOURCES, IT HAS ORGANIZED EVENTS FROM CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS TO TRAINING COURSES ON KEY TECHNICAL TOPICS THAT ARE RELEVANT TO ITS MEMBERS. THE REGIONAL OFFICE CONSTANTLY SERVES MEMBERS IN NEIGHBOURING COUNTRIES INCLUDING AUSTRALIA, CHINA, MYANMAR, INDIA, THAILAND AND VIETNAM AND HAS SEEN MEMBERSHIP GROW TO OVER 2,500 MEMBERS. THE ASIA PACIFIC OFFICE IS PROUD TO HAVE ACCOMPLISHED A MARKET ENTRY INTO CHINA AND SUCCESSFULLY ORGANIZED SEVERAL TRAINING COURSES IN BEIJING AND NANJING. TOGETHER WITH AAPG AND MGS, THE THIRD EDITION OF THE MYANMAR OIL AND GAS CONFERENCE 2017 WAS SUCCESFULLY HELD WITH WORK UNDERWAY FOR THE NEXT EDITION IN 2018. THIS LEGACY IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE AND IS EXEMPLARY TO THE CONTINUATION OF INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION. ANOTHER HIGHLIGHT (IN APRIL 2018), WAS THE EAGE/HAGI FIRST ASIA PACIFIC MEETING ON NEAR SURFACE GEOSCIENCE & ENGINEERING IN YOGYAKARTA, INDONESIA. THE SUCCESS OF THE FIRST EVENT WILL BE CONTINUED IN 2019 TOGETHER WITH JOINT WORKSHOPS WITH SISTER SOCIETIES AND A FIRST TIME EVENT IN BRUNEI. ON THE FRONT OF LARGE SCALE CONFERENCES, 2019 WILL BE A BUSY YEAR WITH IPTC COMING UP IN BEIJING AND APGCE IN KUALA LUMPUR. STUDENT CHAPTERS

SUPPORTED STUDENT EVENTS 2017-2018

EAGE has been developing Student Chapters around the world, whose aim is to promote, attend and organize geosciences and engineering events and EAGE activities among students in their area. On a general note, we counted 66 Student Chapters globally, projecting more than 70 Student Chapters in 2018-2019. Because of the projected rise of this number in the coming period, EAGE ensures the growth of the student community in each region. Especially the growth in areas of Latin America and Asia Pacific show the globalization of EAGE in student affairs.

EAGE supported many student events throughout 2017-2018.

FUTURE STUDENT ACTIVITIES EAGE has many student activities planned for the coming year.

The regions to be developed are Africa, Latin America, Asia and North America. The Student Programme continues to grow and many exciting programmes will be organized throughout the year offering students the possibility to further develop their skills in geoscience. EAGE is looking forward to supporting new student initiatives. Other plans include the establishment of new EAGE Student Chapters in regions outside of Europe, to strengthen the relationship with the regions and to effectively service local members and promote Geoscience.

SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS 2017 Scholarships and awards are an important aspect to EAGE Students, motivating students to further develop in the field of geosciences and appreciate their work.

In 2017-2018 the following scholarships/awards were presented.

2017 GUSTAVO SCLOCCHI AWARD The Gustavo Sclocchi Award is a cooperation between EAGE, SPE (Italian Section) and Assomineraria and reached its 25th edition this year. The Award is for the best theses in geosciences and petroleum engineering by any university graduate from an Italian university and Italian nationals graduated anywhere in the world.

The awards started in 1993 and since 2001 have been associated with the late Gustavo Sclocchi, an Eni manager, who was the main promoter of the event. Over the last 24 years 641 theses have been submitted out of which 138 have won awards.

SCLOCCHI AWARD WINNERS Awards • Agnese Nebbia: Pipeline acoustic imaging: theory and applications • Aronne Dell’Oca: Constant and Variable density flow in porous media, under multiple sources of uncertainty.

Honourable Mentions • Marco Ferrari: A one-dimensional code for slug capturing in pipes • Ahmed Mohamed Sadek Elgendy: Screening Criteria & Fluid Design Optimization for Low Salinity Waterflooding Applications • Matteo Cerri: Water Drive gas injection in depleted reservoir • Valentina Marzia Rossi: Mixed Energy shallow marine system with emphasis on tidal influence • Rosalena Filograsso: Ultrasonic measurements on unconsolidated samples under triaxial stress: experimental validation of pressure dependent rock physics models THOMSEN/BP SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is a cooperation project between the EAGE Student Fund and SEG scholarship committees. There are two full time student scholarships, one at a North America University and one at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

Near Surface Geoscience EAGE NEWS Meet the new President INDUSTRY NEWS US cuts royalty rate for shallow water leases

During the past years First Break has consolidated its position as the industry’s leading magazine for geoscientists. This monthly publication steadily serves the geoscience and engineering community with the latest news about EAGE, industry news and the monthly column Crosstalk, which provides analysis of latest industry developments and has proved to be a popular and thought-provoking addition.

Each issue features two academically rigorous technical articles and a set of papers focused around a specific special topic ranging from Land Seismic to Petroleum Geology and Basins.

GEOPHYSICAL PROSPECTING Geophysical Prospecting, with an Impact Factor of 11,744 in 2017, is one of the leading journals in exploration geophysics that will be published nine times per year from 2019 onwards. Handling of the editorial part of the journal is now also being developed as part of a co-production with Wiley-Blackwell Publishing. This journal continues to be a favorite among the members of the Association.

NEAR SURFACE GEOPHYSICS Near Surface Geophysics scored a record Impact Factor of 1,186 in 2017, hereby maintaining and consolidating its high ranking in the category of Geochemistry and Geophysics in the ISI Journal Citation Report. Near Surface Geophysics is well known as an international journal for the publication of research and development in geophysics applied to near surface. The journal is published six times per year, and from the middle of 2018 this journal was also transferred to a co-operative publishing arrangement with Wiley-Blackwell Publishing.

BASIN RESEARCH Basin Research is co-owned with the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) and published by Wiley-Blackwell 6 times on an annual basis. The journal publishes high impact research papers on sedimentary basin systems. In 2017 it scored an Impact Factor of 3,886.

PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCE Petroleum Geoscience, a co-publication with the Geological Society of London, is another favorite among EAGE members. The journal is specialized in­p ­ roviding a multi-disciplinary outlet for the publication needs of those involved in the science and technology associated with rock-related petroleum disciplines. In 2017 it scored an Impact Factor of 1,415. EAGE publishes four issues of the journal on a yearly basis.

Geociencias Aplicadas Latinoamericanas, the latest journal in EAGE’s portfolio, publishes primary research in applied geoscience disciplines and is the perfect embodiment of narrowing the gap in EAGE’s global service to members. It serves as enrichment for the Latin American geoscientist community. The journal is published online in Spanish.

BOOKS In early 2018, the EAGE Bookshop was relaunched with an attractive new design and an easy-to-use system making the purchase of books and scientific publications more streamlined. The online Bookshop, bookshop.eage.org, now offers over 150 scientific, academic and specialist publications that are available for professionals, students and anybody who is interested in the geosciences. Many of these publications are also available in e-book format and EAGE members are entitled to attractive discounts on books and publications.

Our wide assortment of publications covers many different fields of study within geology, such as: Geophysics-Seismic, Petroleum Engineering, Rock Science & Geoengineering and Geochemistry.

EARTHDOC EarthDoc is EAGE’s geoscience library featuring a wealth of technical documents such as conference proceedings, journal articles and more. These documents date back to as far as 1953. Papers from EAGE events are published on EarthDoc two weeks prior to the event. EarthDoc also publishes proceedings from other societies such as SBGf, SAGA and ACGCGP among others.

As shown in the figure below, EarthDoc has grown rapidly over the years and now contains over 65,000 documents.

EAGE members have free access to the content on EarthDoc (access to journal articles is on a subscription basis).

For non-members, papers on EarthDoc are available on a pay-per-view basis.

PUBLISH WITH EAGE EAGE publishes a variety of EAGE publications in-house (books, journals and more), and can also arrange for third-party publications. EAGE’s extensive marketing network is being used to promote these publications. All publications are promoted and sold in EAGE’s online bookshop and during international conferences. REGIONAL NEWSLETTERS Regional newsletters were successfully launched in 2010. In 2014 a Student newsletter was also added to this collection. The 8-20 page newsletters supply EAGE members and other industry professionals in the region with the latest information on EAGE activities; at the same time, they are a helpful resource to identify and introduce key personnel and organizations who share our goal of strengthening cooperation and shared knowledge in the geoscience and engineering community.

The newsletters are distributed via First Break and via events and digital means. All newsletters are also available on the EAGE website.

INITIATIVES THE OBJECTIVES OF EAGE IS TO PROMOTE AND FOSTER DEVELOPMENT WITHIN THE GEOSCIENCES. TO DO SO EAGE HAS UNDERTAKEN VARIOUS INITIATIVES TO MAKE SUCH DEVELOPMENT POSSIBLE ON A GLOBAL SCALE AND HAVE AN ACTIVE ROLE IN THE WORLD WE ARE PART OF.

STUDENT FUND The EAGE Student Fund is a charity that funds activities that help bridge the gap between the university and professional environment for students of geoscience and engineering. In collaboration with the Student Affairs Committee, containing representatives from major industry companies and universities, EAGE is successfully building and promoting geoscience and engineering on a global scale in order to broaden students’ minds and create worldly candidates for careers in the geoscientific industry.

VISION The Fund’s vision is to support and improve the future of geoscience and create the foundation of a student’s future career in terms of knowledge, skills and networks.

MISSION The Fund’s mission is to support student activities that help bridge the gap between the university and the professional environment and create a platform for both students as well as geoscience professionals.

PACE SUPPORT FUND The Programme for Association and Co-operation in Earth sciences (PACE) supports individual geoscientists to participate actively in our events. In connection with one of EAGE’s main goals, ‘to promote the application of geosciences’, the PACE fund strives to encourage the exchange of information and knowledge among the global geoscientific community.

PACE is coordinated by the PACE Committee, consisting of a Chairman, a Vice-Chairman, a Secretary-Treasurer and several representatives.

GREEN FUND For many years, EAGE has been contributing to the offset of the carbon footprint of our speakers who travel all over the world to give lectures.

In 2010, the EAGE Board decided to launch the EAGE Green Fund.

EAGE GREEN FUND FACTS • From all registration fees for EAGE events one euro (€1) will be put in to the Green Fund • This will be supplemented with a contribution by EAGE • The money raised in this way will be utilized to initiate and support geoscience and engineering environmental initiatives.

• No increase in cost for our members!

This programme, in response to membership wishes, brings together initiatives regard­ing EAGE’s events and operations including reduction and compensation of emissions, reducing nature source consumption, reducing and recycling waste and offering more sustainable facilities. Several ideas have already been launched, such as installing solar panels at the EAGE Head Office. Currently the Green Fund supports two other initiatives; protecting 20,000 m2 of tropical rainforest in Costa Rica, in co-operation with Oasebos, and a patented water-making system in Madagascar which is able to produce drinking water through condensation of humid air in co-operation with Eole Water.

The Green Fund also provides support for the Minus CO2 Challenge which will be launched in 2018 with the winning entries to feature at the 81st Conference & Exhibition in London in June 2019.
