ACT Prep Course

Sylvan Learning certified instructors will teach a plan that builds the skills, study habits, and attitudes your teenager needs to score higher on test day and apply to college with confidence. Students of all test-taking abilities will benefit from Sylvan’s highly personalized and targeted approach that focuses on the exact skills needed to successfully answer test questions. A comprehensive content review for each of the ACT’s four required tests – English, Math, Reading, and Science will be included. Students will also have 24/7 access to pre/post tests online with tutorials for one calendar year.

Personal Interests & Senior Sage Introduction to Computers (BUS 1121 CE)

This class starts at the very beginning! By the end of this class, you will understand and “talk” computer lingo. This computer course includes an overview of Windows operating systems, and introductions to word processing, and more.

Learn basic word processing functions including: Enter, insert, delete, and replace text; set margins and tabs; save and print documents; create headers and footers; insert page breaks; and use spell check.

Introduction to iPAD® (BUS 2081 CE)

In this class you will explore your iPad’s many features. We’ll cover browsing the web, viewing your photos, email, watching movies, Netflix, or TV, playing music, reading/ buying books, using Google maps, editing your calendar, syncing with your computer and much more! Also, learn how to install additional free and iPad specific applications via Apple’s App Store. Bring your iPad, USB Cable, and laptop (optional) to class.

Book Publishing (BUS 2081 C1)

Have you ever thought about publishing a book? Forrest City native, Dr. Stuart Towns will walk you through the steps. Dr. Towns, a 30 year teaching veteran, has published five books. This course will cover working with an editor, finding an agent, acquiring a publishing deal, self-publishing, getting distribution and promoting your book.

Whether you have always wanted to learn how, or just starting to learn the magical workings of hook and yarn, this course will teach basic stitches, selecting the right yarn and the appropriate tools to use.

Weightlifting (HPR 1811 CE)

Throughout the semester students will work with instructor Ross Jackson on how to achieve different goals such as increased speed, power, flexibility, endurance, strength, and muscular size. Students will be working all major muscle groups including legs, chest, back, shoulders, and arms with increasing amounts of resistance. Students will also cover the basics of nutrition.

Yoga

Yoga is designed to connect the mind and body. Class will focus on strength and balance movements designed to increase flexibility and reduce stress. You will benefit from this class whether you are a new student learning the basics or you are more experienced. This class is appropriate for all fitness levels. Wear comfortable clothing and don’t forget to bring a yoga mat to class.

Zumba (HPR 1421 CE)

Dance your way into fitness with this Latin-inspired dance style class.

This class joins high energy movements with dance combinations to achieve a full body workout. Zumba helps tone, sculpt, and burn fat while incorporating exercises such as squats, knee lifts, and bicep curls.

You’ll have so much fun you won’t realize you’re working out.

Self Defense (HPR 1001 CE)

This fun and informational-packed class presents the skills you need to disable an assailant and escape an assault. This hands-on course is designed to emphasize confidence and self-discipline while developing and enhancing options for self-defense. Under the guidance of experienced instructor Nathaniel Thomas, you will learn a full range of self-defense techniques, including awareness, assault deterrence, and setting verbal boundaries. Don’t miss out on learning these basic steps to protecting yourself.

Graphic Design (ART 2003 CE)

This course instructs the student in graphic design skills employing traditional and digital tools, materials, and procedures employed in the communication arts industry.

Jewelry Soldering (ART 2001 C3)

How about making a friend or loved one a beautiful piece of jewelry?

Soldering is a process in which two or more metal items are joined together by melting and adding a filler metal (solder) into the joint.

This course will show you how to solder sterling silver rings using a torch, silver solder, and various other tools to create a beautiful piece of jewelry.

Jewelry Making with Metal (ART 2001 C1)

This fun course will teach you the art of creating jewelry from metals and wire. Learn techniques for cutting, bending, straightening, looping, and dangling wire.

Drawing I (ART 1023 CE)

Students will use various drawing materials to create portraits, still life, landscapes, and abstractions. They will learn basic drawing techniques.

Pottery

This class explores the art of forming and shaping clay. Anyone can participate, regardless of skill level. You will advance at your own rate while making creative pieces. Explore hand-building techniques such as Coil, Slab, and Wheel while learning how to incorporate decoration and embellishments to improve surface design. Experienced students will continue their exploration of ceramic art by practicing advanced hand techniques.

Sewing: Alterations (ART 2001 C2)

Instructor Lois Banton will cover simple repair and alteration techniques. You will learn how to hem pants by hand and machine.

Techniques for taking in simple garments, replacing buttons, and fixing rips will be demonstrated.

Master Gardner Training

Students will use acrylic paints to paint still life, self-portraits, and landscapes. Beginners will learn basic techniques. Advanced students can experiment with new techniques or sharpen their skills.

Learn to communicate in the manual-visual mode and receive instruction in learning the alphabet, vocabulary, whole number system, and elementary conversation. Instructor Mary Helen Winkler has designed this class for individuals interested in learning to communicate with the hearing-impaired using the total communication approach.

How about trying your hand at decorative welding? Have fun with an experienced welder, Tommy Lewis, as he shows you some creative ways to turn metal into beautiful pieces of art through welding.

Have you always wanted to learn to speak the Spanish language? Let instructor Marjorie Crawford teach you how. Topics covered include friendly greetings, polite expressions, Spanish phrases, words for the workplace, and more! The course is intended for students with no previous knowledge of the Spanish language.

Sponsored by the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service Extension Offices in Cross County (870)238-5745, Crittenden County (870)739-3239, and St. Francis County (870)261-1730, this training is available to all of Eastern Arkansas. AR Concealed Carry Course

Taught by certified concealed handgun safety instructor, Buck Morris, this course offers a safe, friendly environment for Arkansas residents to qualify to conceal a handgun with a permit (license). Classroom experience and firing qualification (to be held at a local range) meets the requirements of Arkansas Act 419 of 1995. Participants must be 21 years of age and a resident of the State of Arkansas.

Cake Decorating for Beginners

This fun hands-on class teaches basic cake decorating. Participants will take a previously baked cake and learn basic cake decorating techniques. Instructor Cathy Helton starts with the proper way to apply icing and frosting and slowly begin adding borders and flowers. You will receive instruction on various types of icing, proper use of decorating tools, and instruction in skills needed to prepare a beautiful cake. A list of supplies you will need to purchase will be available when you register.

Wreath Workshop

There is nothing like a festive wreath to make your house look wonderful! Glenda Davenport is a skilled wreath and door decoration designer who will show you ways to make and design your own wreaths. Bring ribbon, burlap, mesh, and whatever you would like your wreath to have on it.

Let’s Preserve! Canning Class

Canning is a great way to preserve your produce beyond the growing season. Blue Ribbon award winner, Wilma Powell, will demonstrate canning techniques. You will be able to take home recipes, one jar of the class-produced product, and the knowledge for turning your favorite vegetables and fruits into something you can enjoy year round. A list of supplies you will need to purchase will be available when you register.

The Saints and Mystics

In this course the Rev. Dr. Bill Buchanan, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Forrest City, will introduce you to the life stories of some of the men and women whose heroic and extraordinary faith has had a profound impact on the church and on humanity through the ages. You will have the opportunity to reflect on what made them so remarkable and how they can be examples for the rest of us in the practice of our faith.

Boating Education Course

Anyone born on or after January 1, 1986, and of legal age to operate a motorboat, must have completed an approved Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Boating Education Course and carry proof while operating a motorboat on Arkansas water. The law also affects operators of sailboats. The Arkansas Boating Education Course teaches the fundamentals of safe and responsible boating. This is necessary to reduce loss of life, personal injury, and property damage while increasing boating enjoyment for outdoor enthusiasts. Professional Development Real Estate Continuing Education

This course, taught by NEA Real Estate School of Jonesboro, will cover important 2015 contract changes. Participants will receive 6 hours of Real Estate continuing education credit.

Healthcare Provider CPR

The Healthcare Provider Course teaches CPR skills for helping victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). This course is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a variety of settings.

Pesticide Application Training Participants will learn how to apply restricted use pesticides used for agricultural commodities on property owned or rented by them or their employers. Designed for private applicators of pesticides and led by instructors from the University of Arkansas – Division of Agriculture, Cooperative Extension Service. Federal law requires that an individual who purchases or applies a restricted use pesticide must be certified and receive periodic pesticide safety training. Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Refresher Course (EMT 1501 CE)

This course follows the USDOT National Standard Curriculum and meets the Arkansas Department of Health – Section of EMS Transition Course requirements for 24 hours of refresher/transition training. Information provided assists Arkansas licensed or nationally registered EMT-Basics to meet re-certification requirements.

Pre-registration is required.

Paramedic Refresher Course (EMT 2503 CE)

This course follows the USDOT National Standard Curriculum and provides 48 hours of refresher training. Information provided assists Arkansas certified or nationally registered Paramedics to meet recertification requirements.

RN to EMT Program

The RN to EMT program is designed to provide the RN with both knowledge and skills to assess and treat an acutely ill or injured patient in the pre-hospital settling at the Emergency Medical Technician – Basic Level. Students will be tested to assure minimal competencies and technical skills relative to pre-hospital care. After successfully completing this course, the student will be eligible to complete the National registry EMT Basic Certification Examination.

The four days of classroom time is designed to complete the extrication requirement, learn all skills and take the Arkansas Practical Skills Exam. Prerequisites include: Current State RN Licensure, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).

Registration begins April 1st. Deadline to register is April 30th.

Thursdays, January 15th - April 30th Under the direction of Barry Adams of Delta Gymnastics, girls and boys from ages 3 to high school will build strength, balance, coordination, and self esteem while learning new skills and improving old ones.

Slammin’ Jammin’ Guitar Lessons

Whether you are brand new to guitar or you need to build on the basics that you have already learned, instructor John Shepherd will supply you with the tools you need to improve and play like a star!

8 Lessons will cover hand techniques, reading music, chording, etc., while working one on one with an experienced guitar player. Bring your own guitar and your inner rock star!

Cheerleading Camp

This camp is designed for Junior and Senior high students.

Participants do not need to have any prior cheerleading experience.

Roni Farrin, former ASU cheerleader and All-Star competitive coach, will teach cheers, chants, dances & jumps in a low-pressure, safe, and fun environment. You can do one week or two weeks.

Registration

Classes are filled on a first-come first-serve basis, and early registration is encouraged. Please note that fees are due upon registration to reserve a space in a class. A student is not officially enrolled in a class until payment is received.

Cancellation Policy

A 100% refund is given when a course is cancelled by the College. EACC reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment. Mailed refunds are usually received within two to three weeks.

Refunds

A transferable voucher may be given for the amount of the class if a student cancels 48 hours prior to the start of the class.

All students must register and pay all course fees prior to the first day of class.

Continuing Education classes will not meet on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 19th) or Spring Break (March 23rd - 27th).
