Fire at St. Vincent Cancels Classes By Kristen Dragotto dragottok@emissourian.com
St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School in Dutzow did not hold classes Friday after a structure on the school campus caught fire Thursday evening. Multiple fire departments were dispatched to the campus of St. Vincent de Paul Church and rectory, at 13497 S. Highway 94, Thursday, Dec. 3, around 7:30 p.m. The glow of the flames could be seen from the Highway 47 bridge. When firefighters arrived they found a one-story structure, adjacent to the school building, engulfed in flames. Members of the church said the structure was largely used as a cook shed known as the “fry shed” for parish activities, including fish fry dinner and other events. Those who were dispatched to the scene included the Marthasville Fire Protection District, Washington Volunteer Fire Co., New Melle Fire Protection District, Augusta Community Fire Department, Warrenton Fire Protection District, Union Fire Protection District, Boles Fire Protection District and Marthasville Community Ambulance District. Sean Johnson, assistant fire chief of the Marthasville Fire Protection District, said no one was in the structure or injured due to the fire; however, the building was a “total loss.” “Due to the extent of the damage, we were unable to determine the •SeeSt.VincentPage2A
