Tour the Jurassic Park of AirVenture on the Warbirds Tram Tour

AS ONE OF the largest and most popular areas on the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh grounds, the Warbirds area can sometimes be overwhelming. To make things just a little easier, and to give visitors an overview of the staggering amount of warbirds on display, Warbirds Tram Tours are available on a daily basis beginning Monday, July 24, and going until Saturday, July 29. Oh, did we mention the tours are completely free?

Boarding for the tour starts around 7:30 a.m. at their base in Warbird Alley and ends around 2 p.m. in preparation for the daily air show. Throughout the 30-minute tour, passengers will go through 12 zones of aircraft (Warbirds Tram Tour Chairman Vic Krause described the Warbirds area as the Jurassic

Park of AirVenture), accompanied by a knowledgeable narrator describing the uses and events that the aircraft went through.

“[The narrators] typically have members of their family that were past veterans,” said Vic, EAA 292930. “They’re really militarily oriented as a family. … When they saw what we’re trying to do, they’d come up and say, ‘Hey, do you need anybody to work?’”

The Warbirds Tram Tours are, like much of AirVenture, run by volunteers, with about 40 of them involved in the operation.
