Description of Appointments
There are a series of appointments for a bone conduction hearing device assessment.
Initial Audiology Assessment – you will be seen by an Audiologist who will assess your hearing. You will be loaned a bone conduction hearing device on a headband (trial for approximately two weeks)
Repeat Audiology – an Audiologist will discuss your trial with you.
Initial Medical Assessment – You will meet with one of our Consultant ENT Surgeons who will ask you about your health and history. He will explain to you about the surgery and you can ask him any questions.
End of Assessment – A member of the team will meet with you to discuss your assessment and you will have the opportunity to select the colour of your BCHD processor.
Team Decision - When the assessment is complete there will be a Multidisciplinary Team Meeting to discuss your potential to benefit from a bone conduction hearing device and a recommendation will be made. We will contact you in writing to advise of the Team Decision.
The main aim of the assessment process is to provide you with more details about your hearing, whether you are suitable for a BCHD and to provide you with information about bone conduction hearing devices. We will try to make the whole process as stress free as we can, but please feel you can contact us at any time to query something. All assessments take time for us to be sure that we are offering you the best professional advice. However, if at any stage you do not wish to continue, please feel you can contact us and request a delay or discontinue the assessment process.
