Our dreams and goals often emerge as the milestones in our life and journey. Achieving our goals is the stuff that defines us and fulfills our vision of life as we would like it to be. Yet sometimes success if hard to come by and our goals continue to elude us. Very often we ourselves are responsible for this predicament that we are plagued with, unconsciously conjuring it up through our choices, actions and decisions. Here are 5 ways you may be unknowingly contributing to the scarcity of success where achieving your goals is concerned. 5 Surprising Reasons You’re Not Achieving Your Goals 1. Fear of Success Crazy as it may sound, your fear of success may just be pushing your dreams and goals further and further away from you. While you may live under the impression that you are busy working to achieve your goals, you may unconsciously be delaying or jeopardizing your own chances at success. In order to achieve your goals, you must fill out the shoes it comes with; if you do not feel

ready or worthy of the success that comes with your goals, you might never actually get there. Your goal may always stay a cherished dream and your life a constant endeavor to achieve it. 2. Fear of Failure Just like fear of success, a fear of failure may be the very reason you’re not achieving your goals. All journeys and experiences come with their trials and lessons- no matter how big or small. Sooner or later, your growth curve and goals are going to elicit courage and possibly a few risks from you. These require you to surrender yourself to the uncertainty of not knowing, relying simply on your self-belief and the quality of your efforts. But a fear of failure can paralyze you, restricting you from taking any of these steps. Worse, it may manifest as a seemingly positive trait- such as perfectionism, exhaustive planning or even well-reasoned logic- all of which actually avoid the path of courage for the familiarity and safety of the known. 3. Wisdom of Time Another surprising reason you’re not achieving your goals may lie in your relationship with the pace and timing of your efforts. Success is not just achieved by putting your best foot forward alone, but by putting it forward at the right time. Learning to strike at the opportune moment, and then allowing your efforts to unfold and deliver in their own pace and rhythm (not your’s!) is the wisdom of time. This isn’t just about patience, but about developing an eye that sees the smallest shifts and movements that make up the grand leaps we all seek. 4. Too Many Goals Setting yourself a vast plethora of goals isn’t being ambitious; it is highly distracting. It is important to spearhead your efforts, focus and intentions towards a singular array of goals that carve out a common path. But if these all pull you in different directions, then you might actually end up achieving none of them. Learn to prioritize your goals, setting your eye on a singular target alone at any given time, for greater focus and faster results. 5. Being Rigid and Inflexible Having a plan is great, but if your plan is much too rigid and inflexible you may miss out on a range of alternatives and opportunities that lie ahead. A well-developed plan integrates an adaptive strategy, that responds to the moment and the circumstances it encompasses. This allows it to not only stay on the path to success, but also on top of the situation- whatever form it may take or challenges it may present. If your plan is so rigid, that it is actually limiting you, then it’s time to reinvent your approach.
