„Noel Gallagher can be a little b*tch‟ says brother Liam Liam Gallagher has branded his brother Noel a “little bitch” for claiming he was bullied out of Oasis. The singer was recently blamed by his guitarist sibling for forcing him out of the super-group with his aggressive behaviour – which culminated Liam attacking Noel with a guitar backstage before a Paris festival appearance in August 2009 – but the Beady Eye frontman insists he is just making excuses for wanting out. In an interview with MTV Canada, Liam said: “I just know he lies. Noel wasn‟t bullied out of the band. And then he writes a statement saying „Oh, I‟ve been bullied out of the band,‟ and management and all that, and two days Ben Stiller wants to get later, the people he reckons bullied him, and the people Jen Anniston Naked who weren‟t listening to his little sob story, were around With so many celebrities out there trying to do good at his house having tea on his lawn. Is Rihanna too sexy? KNOCKING back booze, flashing rude gestures and letting a dancer get up close and too personal, Rihanna, 23, shocked fans at the New Jersey leg of her Loud tour on the weekend. The show – featuring spandex-clad dancers stripping RiRi who then whips them – was branded OTT by giggoers. The Bajan beauty hits the UK next month… maybe it‟s time to tone it down.

X Factor got a couple of new hotties It‟s out with the old and in with the new this year as Tulisa (N Dubz) and former Destiny‟s Child band member took over from Cheryl and Dannii….We‟ll have to wait and see if they have what it takes later this month when the show returns to our screens.

by Mark Copeland

Ok, what is it about the fear of torrential rain, the desire for over-priced and warmed bee, and a giant wheel in the middle of an abandoned airfield that I just can‟t get enough of? 12 years since my first T in the Park experience (now my seventh in a row) and I‟m back at Balado to check out the best this years‟ festival had to offer.

KASSIDY The first day of live music began late afternoon on the Friday (to surprising sunshine), with many of the crowd embracing the fancy dress theme. After sneaking past a couple of drunken looking X-Men, and grabbing a beer, I caught current buzz act Kassidy on the Radio One NME stage.

I was also quick to spot the numerous female fans swooning at some nifty long hair and beard combos: more at home with South Carolina than the Southside of Glasgow! All in all, Kassidy were a great start to the festival.

Rootsy, energetic and tight on rhythm, they were enjoyable openers. Kassidy‟s most immediate asset live is their four part harmonies, and the range of vocals merged nicely throughout an accomplished set. Drawing on influences such as the Beach Boys, The Mamas and Papas and CSNY but placing it in a modern setting, I‟d expect this band to be further up the bill within the next few years and their profile raised (and not just through a Facebook page dedicated to a members‟ striking resemblance to a current Greek SPL striker). And it‟s always nice to hear a Glasgow band whose influences spread further than Britpop or the Nirvana-led grunge scene of the early 90‟s.

PLAN B

Their performance grew in confidence as the set progressed, and after finishing with stand-out “Stray Cat” and “The Betrayal”, they left the stage to a mighty send off.

After some slightly nauseating Tom Jones led sing-alongs I caught the majority of the London rapper / soul-singer/producer/director/and slightly angry man Plan B‟s set. Given the huge success of his album last year, he proved a predictable winner on the main stage, with some interesting covers to boot. I remember seeing Plan B live a few years back, when he was lumbered with a „British Eminem‟ tag; with that in mind, the move towards „soul-man‟ has been a wise one. The set is impassioned but sensitive, featuring assured takes on The Temptations “My Girl” and Paulo Nutini‟s “Coming Up Easy”. Finishing with a raucous “Stay Too Long”, he leaves to a rapturous response, and sets me and the Balado faithful up nicely for the festivals first headline act. 20

ARCTIC MONKEYS Unfortunately it‟s at this point when the night started to drop off for me. The Arctic Monkey‟s had their moments, but too often descended into bland riffs and non-descript melody. The blistering “Brianstorm” proved that they can go down this route, but do it much better. Their other highlights were the sharp wit of „Fluorescent Adolescent‟ and slow-burning drive of “Do Me a Favour”, but in truth even breakthrough hit „I Bet You Look Good on the Dance floor‟ seems to have lost some of its charm. Dreary closer „505‟ was a bit of let-down considering they have been ending their set with that for a while now, and with that in mind I skipped the queue out and headed back for the bus. by Mark Copeland

Blue Sky Archives King TutsWahWah Hut 27/07/11

The last night of King Tut‟s „Summer Nights

Glasgow’s

2011‟ festival saw post-rock five piece Blue Sky Archives take the stage to an enthusiastic Blue Sky Archives and well-sunned Glasgow crowd. Opener „Safe as Houses, Sweet as a Nut‟ introduced atmospheric guitar licksto a slow brooding rhythm section, proving a great vehicle for singer Lauren Mayberry to soon demonstraterichand emotivevocals. Mayberry‟s vocals are unquestionably a highlight, with a colour and immediacy that aids the bands melodies and ensures they are easily listenable; it also contrasts well with the rawer male accompaniment, which kicks in during the distorted crescendos. The band carried on with an energetic and tight set, at times mixing the pop sentimentality and sharp rhythm of 2007Modest Mouse (see: We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank) with the gutsy angst of Biffy Clyro‟s Blackened Sky. The emotive „post-rock‟ genre is possibly one of Glasgow‟s most saturated at the minute, but Blue Sky Archives have enough in their locker to easily rise above their peers. Expect to see a lot more in the coming year. Check out: „Safe as Houses, Sweet as a Nut‟ „Dear Middle-Aged Ponytail…‟

Winehouse

14 September 1983 – 23 July 2011

Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her house in north London on Saturday 23rd July - she was 27. The award-winning artist, famous for hits including Rehab from the critically acclaimed album Back to Black, was discovered by police in the late afternoon. Her death is being treated as unexplained until findings are released in October. Amy was last seen with her goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield, earlier last week when the teenager performed at the iTunes festival. Following news of her death, tributes began to pour in to one of the most celebrated and troubled British artists of recent times. Mark Ronson, who produced Back to Black, said: "She was my musical soulmate and like a sister to me. This is one of the saddest days of my life." Singer and actress Kelly Osbourne wrote: "i cant even breath right now, im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!"

Amy through the years... 1983 - September 14 Amy Winehouse has Arrived Cab driver Mitch Winehouse and his pharmacist wife Janis welcome their second child Amy into their North London home. When the Winehouses split, a nine-year-old Amy and her older brother Alex live mostly with their mother in Southgate – a London suburb best known for housing the Priory, a celebrity-friendly rehab hospital. "She was always very self-willed," her father Mitch tells Rolling Stone in 2007. "Not badly behaved but...different."

1996 Too Cool for School At 12, Winehouse wins a space in the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School, but is expelled long before graduation. (The final straw? Getting her nose pierced). "She was very bright but she was always messing around," mom Janis tells London's Daily Mail in 2007. By 16, Winehouse – who later tells Interview, "I'm not very ambitious at all" – lands a deal with Simon Fuller's (the man behind American Idol) management company. She eventually signs with Island Records. 24

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds is Noelâ€&#x;s upcoming debut solo studio album. The album is due to be released on 17 October 2011, and will be the first new studio material released by Noel since he left Oasis in August 2009.

The Death Of You And Me - the debut single from the album - released on August 21st through Noel's Sour Mash Records - is the first to be taken from the forthcoming album 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' High Flying Birds was recorded between 2010 and 2011 in London and Los Angeles, produced by Noel and former Oasis producer Dave Sardy.

He said, "We're going to go out on tour a week after the album is out. We're going to start off slow in small theatres. If it's good enough to get bigger than that then it'll get bigger than that. I don't think there'll be a huge great big tour this year. I think this year it'll be a quick whizz

Despite finishing fourth place on last year's X Factor, Cher Lloyd has held onto her winning attitude and determination – much to the annoyance of some it would appear‌. The 18-year-old released her debut single Swagger Jagger this week, but instead of looking forward to its launch she faced a barrage of abuse in a Twitter hate campaign. One person warned Cher: "As soon as I get my driving licence I'm going to run you over." Another wrote: "You are an awful, stupid brat and I hate your music." Other messages included racist taunts about her gypsy background. Cher has been hitting back at the abuse and is refusing to quit Twitter - where she has 464,000 followers. A source said: "Cher is not going to let her fans down by giving in to these cyber bullies." Cher retaliated to the insults by writing: "You may view me as talentless but you are still taking the time to tweet me."

32

In another Twitter message she wrote: "Fight the bullies. Don't let them win! I'm a gypsy. I am what I am, like it or lump it." The star was also subjected to a hate campaign while in the ITV1 singing competition. She has said previously: "I think it all boils down to their own insecurities - if you're unhappy with yourself, you're going to pick on someone else." Cher is no stranger to negative public opinion having received some less than desirable comments throughout the X Factor competition, including accusations of a „fix‟ at one point, however not to take it lying down, this feisty Geordie is determined to prove her critics wrong with the release of her debut single and album. Recording with top record producers RedOne (who has worked with the likes of Lady GaGa, Jennifer Lopez and Nicole Scherzinger) and Max Martin (Britney and Katy Perry) Cher says she wants her music to make the statement not the headlines and negative comments that surround her. "Max is a very private person. He doesn't rant and rave about his music, which is why I loved working with him,” explained Cher. “I want to be like that - I want to get my music out but not scream and shout about it. I don't like people who brag. I've got a strong dislike for that. It's not big or clever."

ROONEY admits City threat United star believes neighbours will be battling it out for league title. Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes neighbours Man City will be firmly in the title race next term. Last Week former United favourite David Beckham played down City's rapid development in recent years, saying "they are never going to be Man United ".

Rooney

has acknowl-

edged the threat they pose and is confident they will be among the Premier League contenders during the coming campaign.

"There are at least five or six teams that will compete for the championship this year, among them Manchester City," he said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport . "But in the Premiership, more than in any other country, you have to sweat even when you face teams that are at the bottom of the table." Rooney is still only 25 but told the Italian newspaper he has no plans to move abroad during his career. "I've never thought of it," he said.

Happy "I'm happy in Manchester and in England, and I have my family here so I have no reason to leave." If Rooney wasn't English, he admits he would like to play in Brazil's national team, but the United star has also been a big admirer of Italian football. "I grew up watching Serie A on TV," he said. "It w as football that everyone knew, perhaps the most beautiful in Europe. "Of course, now it is not the same as before, but if you look a team like AC Milan, full of champions, it is always a good spectacle. "I still enjoy it (watching Italian football). AC Milan is the team that I like best, even historically. "We've faced them several times and I can't forget the two times they've beaten us in the Champions League."

It was described by many as surreal, explosive, enchantDYRT’s Feed back ing and satisfying all at once. The posters wrote “It all ends here” and the film was quite literally the beginning email us at of an end. It was somewhat of a depiction of a war like info@dyrt.co.uk no other. The final and ultimate confrontation between Lord Voldemort and our young hero and protagonist, Harry Potter alongside the astounding revelation of Harry's destiny, which Dumbledore had been keeping a secret from him. Harry alongside our two other hero/heroines, Hermione and Ron, continue another battle to find and destroy the "horcruxes “that the infamous Voldemort needs in order to stay alive for all eternity. However, the battle is one of great difficulty as the only clue or lead to discovering and destroying anything, is that Harry knows only that the most vital horcrux is actually in the castle, very close at hand. There were funny moments, moments of anxiety, gripping and complex moments of the utmost braveness from several characters, moments where you thought “there is no turning back” and most of all there were moments of sheer and utter triumph. The film really brought to home, what an amazing success the whole Harry Potter franchise and really restored the magic in it. Whilst highlighting the concept, of what written work can ultimately become. So I must take this opportunity to say “Kudos to J.K Rowling- for making my childhood so magical”. It was such an entertaining, mesmeric, charming and exciting journey. We can certainly say that Harry Potter has emerged as an intricate, confident courageous and amiable character. I feel sad to say that after watching the film, I realised that this emotional and victorious roller-coaster of a ride has finally drawn to an end. 44

s w e i v e R s Game e r u t u F e h t Back to

By Richard Cobbett

T

here are moments in Telltale‟s latest

episodic adventure series that will remind you exactly why you love Back to the Future. And you do. By law, you do. The little twinkling sound as the story starts. The sheer joy of seeing Marty and Doc reunited for one last adventure. The moment the DeLorean hits 88mph. Nostalgic hits like that fondle the old geek glands like nothing else, and just for a split second, a game that offers them can do no wrong. Unfortunately, Back to the Future is five episodes long, and those warm fuzzies are a distant memory by the end of the first. For the rest of the game, you have to make do with Telltale at their least inspired, clearly focused more on hammering their latest licence around their standard adventure game template, rather than working out how best to turn Back to the Future into a game. There are no cool time-travel brain twisters like the ones back in Day of the Tentacle for instance. None.

Instead, you‟re forced to stumble through lots and lots of very easy, uninspired, but worst of all, boring puzzles, based more on cartoon logic than the tropes of the films. Where those had romanticised but iconic time periods, Telltale fail miserably at making their own circa 1931 Hill Valley anything more than a studio lot. A studio lot full of comedy gangsters and slapstick that makes Bugsy Malone look like Goodfellas. Almost everything you bump into feels, if not bad, cheap, rushed and phoned-in. The one exception is the main storyline linking all of the puzzles. This time, we get to see Doc‟s past, back at the start of his scientific career, with the timeline first put at risk by one of Biff‟s gangster ancestors, and then a love affair that risks turning Hill Valley into a Big Brother style state. What makes it work is that despite some incredibly silly individual moments, there turns out to be an incredibly strong emotional core to the story.

50

As with all decent spinoffs, the best bits are when it expands on the films‟ philosophies and asks new questions. Without wanting to spoil anything, the big one here is precisely what gives Marty the right to choose the „correct‟ timeline, just because it‟s better for him and his loved ones. The game still often struggles to find that authentic Back to the Future feel, the final episode especially going off the rails several times, but at least it tries..

America is lost. Four years after the epic conclusion of Resistance 2, dishonorably discharged Sentinel Joseph Capelli is in hiding from the invading Chimeran menace with a pocket of survivors, including his new wife and young son. But when Dr. Fyodor Malikov arrives with a desperate plan, he sets into motions the events ofResistance 3, the third instalment in the popular full-featured first-person shooter series. Resistance 3 is created by criticallyacclaimed developer Insomniac Games exclusively for the PlayStation 3 system.

With the same story, better puzzles, and the licence taken more seriously, this could have been the Back to the Future game fans deserve. As it is, while its adventure chops make it more than one of those old sidescrolling platformers with a popular movie‟s logo on the box, the exact same kind of production-line thinking is clearly, painfully, in full force here. Marty and Doc deserved better. So did we. In addition to an epic single-player campaign, Resistance 3 will offer two -player online or split-screen co-op through the single-player campaign, and a new, focused progressionbased multiplayer experience.

It's August 1957, four years after the conclusion of Resistance 2 that left Lieutenant Nathan Hale dead on the battlefield against the invading Chimeran race. Joseph Capelli has been dishonorably discharged from the U.S. Army for killing Hale. With the Chimera completely occupying the planet, Capelli has given up on the seemingly hopeless fight and has retreated into hiding underground with his wife and young son in Haven, Oklahoma. But as the climate of the planet continues to collapse, scientist Set in a brutal, alternate 1950s universe, Dr. Fyodor Malikov finds Capelli with America has been successfully conquered a plan to deliver a devastating blow and destroyed by the deadly Chimeran against the occupying Chimeran race, forcing the last remaining human surforce. Is this what was going through folks minds when they decided to riot?! Protest? My arse!! Everybody has the right to peaceful protest, but to start rioting is well out of order. What were they rioting for? The million dollar question! Some folk are saying they were rioting because they have no future, other say because of Government cuts. What a load of crap. They were rioting because, they could. They knew the police wouldn‟t fight back. The teachers at school have their hands tied behind their backs when it comes to discipline, parents tend to more like friends and let kids away with everything and the courts give slaps on the wrists as punishments for crimes committed. These rioters are not afraid of the law. They have no boundaries. On the first 3 nights of violence I sat and watched the police stand back and watch them looting and setting fires. Telling folk to go home and threats of “your images will be on cctv” simply don‟t work. Give them a bloody good kickin, that‟s what I say. For once in my life I‟m on the side of the police. Got some jokes about the riot? Here‟s some of mine : Spurs have signed a new striker, Bagatelli I was in London today when I noticed a man running with a chicken Tikka Masala. Think he got the wrong idea when his mate said lets go rob Currys”
