Greetings South Africa!

It has finally arrived. SA Outlook your source of South African affairs.

This has been an exciting journey for myself and the team to work on this first edition. We have made amazing discoveries and have interacted with a variety of people. The first edition has been themed to focus on the areas of science, technology & innovation, women specifically in the workplace and their initiatives with the following of Woman’s month in August.

My key highlights is on the Managing Director, Pam du Plessis of Invincible Valves that gives thought provoking advice to entrepreneurs in their advertorial and a young lady of only 10 years old that has been recognized by industry, government bodies and her peers on her love for writing and motivating children to enjoy learning.

We are proud to be associated with the key events in the construction, infrastructure & energy sectors. We therefore have special features focused on these industries.

Scenarios are never a comprehensive image of the future or the only possible construct of uncertainties. But, they hold the potential of ‘rehearsing’ possible futures, offering opportunities to deepen insight, enrich debate and promote a shared understanding of where and how stakeholders can influence the future.

Towards 2028, there are 9 key factors that will probably be shaping the future of South Africa. Factors influence, and are influenced by one another. One possible analysis of the interplay between factors is summarised in the table below.

Critical factors frequently form either virtuous or vicious circles.

the commissioning of a hospital, including managing installation of equipment and the eventual operationalisation of the hospital. Furthermore, it also provides after-care of the facility in the form of facility maintenance management of both the physical infrastructure, mechanical and electrical installations as well as clinical and non-clinical equipment.

BACKGROUND Sakhiwo was formed in 2006 bringing together the best expertise in this field in South Africa. Its aim was to provide the above services to the South African Departments of Health in the wake of a decrease in available capacity. Since then Sakhiwo has been involved in the building and upgrade of numerous clinics, emergency medical centres, community health centres, district hospitals, regional hospitals and tertiary hospitals and specialised units such as oncology units, TB -MDR and XDR hospitals, psychiatric institutions, paediatric intensive care units and more.

Some of the flagship projects included the Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, a 530-bed Level 1 and 2 Hospital and the new Limpopo Central Hospital

(currently in the planning and design phase), a tertiary and academic hospital with 488 beds that will form an academic complex of 688 beds with facilities at Polokwane Hospital and Mankweng Hospital, providing academic hospital facilities to the University of Limpopo.

In 2014 Sakhiwo branched out to Namibia where it was appointed by the Ministry of Health for the planning and design of a number of hospitals of which the Otjiwarongo Referral Hospital has advanced to the point where it is ready for construction.

Sakhiwo is currently in the process of re-structuring with a new grouping of shareholders taking the company to the next level in terms of expanding its services into the private hospital sector and into the rest of Africa in both the public and private health sectors. It is also expanding its services to include hospital management services and management support services.

As part of its restructuring, Sakhiwo recently appointed, Dr Gil Mahlati as Executive Chairperson and Dr Tebogo Mphake as Chief Executive Officer. They are spearheading the expansion with existing directors, Mr Benjy Mokgothu, (Operations) and Mr Vincent Sahanga (African Projects).

Dr Mahlati is founding shareholder and director of African Financial Group, specialising in the funding of hospital developments, a perfect fit for Sakhiwo. Dr Mphake joined our team following a career in hospital executive management in the private health sector in South Africa.

His level of experience fuels Sakhiwo’s expansion drive into the private health sector, both in South Africa and the rest of the African continent.

n this day and age that we live in, we as women have strived for equality and fairness in all areas of our lives. Our country has seen a new democracy, the rise and fall of many, but the one thing that will never die is the will power, strength and drive of a woman, a mother, a sister, a daughter…a friend.

As proudly South African women we have overcome so many obstacles but we still stand tall through it all. This beautiful country of ours gave birth to many successful women. We also salute the women that has excelled in science and innovation, education and climbing the ladder of politics.

In this feature we have dedicated focus on a special pair - mother and daughter that has excelled in their fields but also have inspired many.

Join me as we share the story of a young lady Buhle Mthethwa and her mother Nthabiseng Maude Mthethwa on being phenomenal women.

I have registered a Foundation that will focus on disadvantaged children in literacy and other humanitarian issues. The Foundation will be launched with my second book later in the year.

Who motivates you as a young woman and why?

My motivation comes from my parents especially my mother. They always give me a lot of support and I can always count on them to be there no matter what.

What message do you want to give young girls who want to pursue their dreams and do not have the support?

I would like to encourage young girls who would like to persue their dreams to always dream big. The sky is the limit.

This young lady is truly remarkable in her efforts and sharing her love for reading to the masses. NTHABISENG MAUDE MTHETHWA BIOGRAPHY: Born: 10th June 1967, and bred in Orlando West in Soweto. I am the eldest from a family of 6 with 1 sister and 4 brothers.

Family: Husband Sibusiso of 24 years. Two boys Siboniso (26), Sandile(19) and Buhle (10) Education: Over the years I obtained Certificates and Diplomas in Nursing, HR, HIV care and Counselling, International Marketing and many more on international platforms.

A Practical Approach Post Grad Certificate in Economic and Development Policy (P&DM) from WITS Business School and planning to pursue MSc. in Investment Promotion and Facilitation in 2019.

Career and Achievements: Deputy Director at The Department of Trade and Industry responsible for Agro-processing, Aquaculture and Mining Beneficiation. Dr Rob Davies has appointed me to serve in the Board of Incentives within the DTI since April 2015 and now have recently serving on a second term that ends in April 2021.

How does your career affect your life as a mother, wife & caregiver and businesswoman?

I am committed in what I do and I am a true example of a working mother with balance between my career and a mother.

My career as Deputy Director for the DTI requires me to do extensive travelling locally and abroad to promote Investment Promotion sourcing Investors into South Africa.

My husband has played a major role in aising the kids since they were small. He has been exposed to this life in the 80’s when Daddy PH Mthethwa was Ambassador in Washington DC from Swaziland, he experienced life as a Diplomat.

I have to juggle my duties between family and being a civil servant. In my off time I spend time with my family and my church. I believe I have attained balance in my life which brings peace to who I am.

All in all, the WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 which took place from 14 to 19 October gathered over 1,200 contestants from 59 countries.

This year, requirements were even more demanding than in 2015. For instance, 700 points in the individual competition were required for a Medallion of Excellence, as compared with 500 at the WorldSkills Brazil 2015. Nadezhda Kashtelyan, a graduate of Brest State College of Service Industry, won a medallion in the Hairdressing category. WorldSkills is the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world, a sort of Olympics for aspiring workers and specialists. The international

WorldSkills Competition is held every two years. Taking part in the event are young skilled workers, students of universities, lyceums, and vocational education institutions aged up to 22.

The WorldSkills movement is meant to promote blue-collar jobs in the modern society and increase their popularity among young people.
