Dylan Francisco (he/him/his) is a recent graduate from the University of Washington in Seattle. With a Bachelors of Arts in Architectural Design and a Bachelors of Science in Construction Management, he is passionate about applying his insight of knowledge from both fields to assist with every step of the architectural process. From bidding and contracts and specs procurement, to developing drawings and sets and responding to RFI’s, Dylan’s breadth of experience will allow him to collaborate with internal and external parties and easily adapt to new challenges and projects. He has previously completed an internship with Tracy A. Stone Architects, as well as two internships with the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company in the construction industry. Outside of academics, Dylan enjoys traveling and spending time with loved ones.

Playing off Columbia City’s existing farmers market culture, the project seeks to weave together an otherwise quiet suburban neighborhood with food. Along great hall providing space for market, community kitchens, and quiet seating parallels the grow towers along 37th Avenue. Multiple walkways allow crossover between the two spaces, encouraging interaction between the two programs.

East African Housing Project
ARCH404 / Winter 2024
This affordable housing complex on the outskirts of Rainier Beach incorporates design motifs and program layouts that compliment the East African families and cultures that are present within the neighborhood. Assignment was a group project with students Elijah Gilmer, Mackenzie Manalo, And Zarrina Nurullina, where I primarily created site maps and diagrams along with some rendering work.

Quantum Mechanics
ARCH498 / Spring 2025
The central quantum computer dictates program. When it’s on the facility is used for research, while it functions as an exhibition while off. Cooling pipes form the structure by wrapping around to encase users. The pipes can expand and inflate to greater sizes to produce more cooling when necessary, alternating the building’s overall shape and dimension to indicate the constant evolution of quantum technology.
Turning the Page
ARCH302 / Spring 2023
Situated between three distinct neighborhoods, an outdoor courtyard and indoor ampitheater provides opportunities for members of these differing communities to share stories about identity with the goal of fostering unity through education and conversation. Raised platforms in both areas promote intimate conversations or group discussions for either organized activity or casual interactions.

Chasing Horizons
ARCH301 / Winter 2023
Inspired by the work of photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto, this gallery and photography studio uses different ground heights to create artificial horizon lines. One is present upon looking across the space from the entrance, and another is created once standing in the lower bowl and looking upwards towards the northeast platform. Here, horizons are formed within the structure itself, reflecting the work of the photographer just as the sky is reflected off the surface of water.

Off the Beaten Path
ARCH300 / Fall 2022
Hidden behind foliage sits the start a hidden trail of interventions. The first, a covered portico hidden behind a tree thicket, uses roof openings to shine light into the space and onto the path beyond. Next, one encounters an amphitheater shielded by a curved wall. The top level also provides a viewing point to the beautiful nature on the site.

Off the Beaten Path
ARCH300 / Fall 2022
Along with a viewing deck, the amphitheater allows for education on the third intervention: a series of wooden rock climbing walls that challenge one to discover the best path up. Throughout the journey, users are also encouraged to peek around corners to discover what lies beyond the beaten path.

Folded Paper
ARCH200 / Fall 2021
A sheet of paper with only five folds and a single cut is transformed into a structure. Perspective sketches focus on hand-drawnshadow. The model evolved into a bus stop, complete with a skylight and a columned façade to allow sunlight to flow into the space.
