Get to know the ins and outs of being an established wedding celebrant with Proud Fox Ceremonies
Born and raised in the Northeast, I initially trained as an actor before establishing a theatre promotions business.
While working at a festival, I met my husband, Neil, a Deaf actor. In 2000, I moved to London and immediately began learning British Sign Language, our primary home language. Our magnificent Civil Ceremony in 2012 was a life highlight. Over the years, we’ve cherished many moments, navigated disagreements (where Neil playfully “wins”), and found personal contentment. I worked as a Theatre Manager at Battersea Arts Centre and qualified as a BSL interpreter in 2008, which remains my profession. Proudly, I volunteered as a BSL performance interpreter coordinator for Pride In London from 2013 until this year, when I shifted focus to weddings. I’ve also appeared on television, winning Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel, featuring in a Pets At Home advert, Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, and officiating Sacha and Ross’s wedding on Married At First Sight 2024.
COULD YOU SHARE THE INSPIRATION BEHIND LAUNCHING PROUD FOX CEREMONIES?
During the first lockdown, facing uncertainty in my work as a BSL interpreter, holistic massage therapist, and drag queen performer/ host, I sought a resilient income stream. Considering births, deaths, and marriages as constant life events, and humorously ruling out births and noting the pause in marriages, I looked to funerals for
opportunity, inspired by ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta.’ Online research led me to Celebrancy, initially envisioning funeral services. However, training providers advised starting with weddings to grasp structure and business. I took the leap and established my wedding celebrant business, Proud Fox Ceremonies. Unlike Registrars who handle legalities in brief, restricted registry office ceremonies, I craft personalised wedding ceremonies held anywhere. Couples complete the legal paperwork separately and then have their dream ceremony with me, in locations like mansions, barns, lakesides, and woodlands. Although I started with a different job, weddings are my focus.
Central to my work is the couple’s ‘Love Story,’ which I develop with them beforehand and share during the ceremony, often revealing new details to guests and sparking conversation.
I empower couples by offering complete freedom in designing their wedding ceremony. Forget the traditional rules – your vision is the only guide. While we can include familiar elements like the aisle procession, vows, rings, and a kiss, the order and style are entirely up to you. It’s important to understand the di erence between Celebrants and Registrars. Registrars handle the legal aspects of your marriage with a brief appointment at the Registry O ce, and they also o er ceremonies. However, Registrar-led ceremonies have significant limitations. They often restrict what you can include, where the ceremony can take place, the number of attendees, whether it’s within council buildings, and the timing. Registrars might be delayed or rushed, potentially making your wedding feel like an impersonal experience.

The groom, Trevor, always hinted at proposing in a sunny destination, but his better half, Jade, never imagined he would get on one knee during their visit to Dubai for Trevor’s birthday week. “Trevor, knowing my love for the sea, chartered a yacht for the day – my ultimate happy place. I was completely unsuspecting, especially noting to him that morning what a significant date 12.12.2020 was, being mirror numbers and aligning with my interest in angel numbers. Little did I realise it would be the day I got engaged. As we anchored facing the Burj al Arab, our song, ‘Always and Forever,’ began to play, and only then I knew he was about to propose,” shares Jade.
The couple had set their hearts on Greece as their wedding destination and, to avoid the crowds, chose the 19th of September 2024 to celebrate their union. Without ever visiting Santorini or their wedding venue, they had no doubts when they came across El Viento online, boasting marvellous views, and a warm family-owned feel with minimalist aesthetics, they had no hesitation in booking this beautiful location for their special day. “We took a gamble, which isn’t for everyone, but it almost made it feel even more special as we got to experience it with our 45 closest loved ones for the first time,” express the couple.
With Jade being an interiors influencer, she is all about the details and wanted the entire day, from dress code to venue and décor, to be aesthetically pleasing. She achieved the dream look by selecting neutrals and classics. She adds: “We asked our guests to also stick to a neutral dress code to allow everything to flow. I am so glad we did this! The guests were actually on board and saved them worrying about what colour to wear or choose! I feel like this made the photos extra aesthetically pleasing and allowed the details of the wedding to shine through. My keywords to my wedding planner were romantic, elegant, and classic.”
Jade had one requirement: “I want to feel like a bride.” She goes on to explain that you get the chance to be the star of the show once in your life, so she truly wanted to be the best bridal version of herself: “I envisioned a regal and timeless bridal look, favouring high necklines and lace for their classic elegance. My dress search began with an uninspiring visit to a well-known boutique in Kensington, London, where both the service and selection left me disappointed. Seeking a change of pace, I spontaneously booked an appointment at Confetti & Lace in Thurrock, Essex, during a lunch outing with my aunt. To my surprise, it was there that I discovered my perfect gown –Grazia by Morilee – a hidden gem brought out from the back, instantly captivated me.” Trevor looked dapper in his elegant tuxedo. Timeless and classic, he picked a white jacket to enhance the destination wedding aspect, and completed his look with a Gucci loafer, complementing the overall look.

Every moment of the day was accompanied by soothing music, from R&B playing upon arrival to the DJ tunes at the end. Coming from a very musical family, Jade and Trevor meticulously planned their repertoire from beginning to end, with highlights being the talented Sofia Sianou on the saxophone during the cocktail hour and their first dance to Bob Marley’s ‘Is This Love.’ Trevor’s Jamaican heritage and the family’s love for Bob Marley made this the ideal song. The uplifting and beautiful sentiment resonated with them, and they appreciated that their guests sang along. It was the perfect choice. The couple put their spin on every aspect of their wedding day, making it a reflection of their unique love story. WH

You could say that Lily manifested their proposal after a gut feeling turned out to be true… “Alex had organised for us to go to the Heath in Hampstead to meet his friends so I went along with it as normal,” she explained. “We were early and so he led me to this intimate spot with a gorgeous view of Highgate. It was here that he got down on one knee, told me I was his best friend and asked me to marry him. I was over the moon!” Lily confessed to us that come the next morning, she had the wedding guestlist completed already, “safe to say I was ready,” she smiled.
Lily really did trust the instinct that a proposal was imminent as this well-prepared bride enquired about their dream venue a few weeks prior to Alex proposing. “My heart was rolling with this feeling and I knew I wanted a countryside wedding, I love England, my home and I have always loved the idea of an English wedding,” she told us. “I was mesmerised by images of LIMEKILN with it’s rural charm and beautiful natural light, it was Alex and I’s style combined and we knew it was the one.” The couple invited all their closest friends and family to celebrate with them in a 150-guest party.
“I met Mara on a bridal photoshoot in 2022 when I was working as a model,” Lily started. “I was blown away by her brand and when the time came, I knew I would love for Mara to create my gown. Mara made every moment feel seamless and I knew that I was in the best hands. I loved our fittings; we always had such a giggle and it just felt so easy with zero stress.”
Lily’s bespoke gown was crafted from luxurious corded French lace with an elegant underlay of ivory crepe fabric and graceful sleeves. They also draped a soft tulle skirt around her waist for a dramatic flair and their favourite detail was the stunning keyhole back. “I was also fortunate enough to have a second dress for the evening, a short and sexy version of my original gown ready to boogie!”
From sharing their vows, a heartfelt Maid of Honour speech and a poem from Minnie, the day was filled with wow-moments for the happy couple. “My brother later performed ‘White Wedding’ by Billy Idol and we made that entrance together as we danced around the room,” she reminisced. “We always loved the film ‘The Wedding Singer’ and reliving it was so fun.” The couple also told us how much it meant to them to incorporate Alex’s Jewish heritage into the day, from being lifted on chairs to having all their loved ones in the room, you could literally feel the love on the day.
Lily broke from tradition for a heartfelt reason when it came to throwing the bouquet. “We actually kept the flowers in vases and dished all the table pieces out to friends and family,” she explained. “Most importantly, my mum placed my bouquet on my late sister’s grave the following day. Harriet Grace, born a year before me, passed as a baby. She never lived to see and experience life’s great milestones so it felt right to place my flowers by her cross and write a note to tell her about the special day.”
“We escaped within two days of the wedding to the romantic embrace of Paris,” Lily’s eyes sparkled at the memory. “We wined and dined in beautiful restaurants such as Sugaar and Laperouse, explored exhibitions and vintage shopping.” The couple have booked their official honeymoon to Ikos in southern Spain this June and can’t wait for a week of pure relaxation and good food! Lucy was completely surprised when Adam proposed, creating an unforgettable moment that began their journey towards a lifelong commitment. “We went for a walk in late April 2023 to the beautiful bluebell woods in the Hertfordshire countryside. It was a complete surprise! Adam asked me to sit down on a log that had fallen down in the middle of a sea of bluebells. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He was very nervous and proposed using the ring box that his dad used for his mum’s engagement ring. He proposed with a simple silver jewel so that we could choose my actual engagement ring together. We had a great time ring shopping in London and went with a piece from British Jewellers Graff with a 1ct platinum ring,” Lucy remembers.
The couple got married on the 10th of August 2024, which was also Lucy’s sister’s birthday, which she kindly offered to share with them. Being traditional, it was important for them to marry in a church, and St Etheldreda’s church was the ideal choice, followed by a reception at the Old Palace at Hatfield House. “We also loved that the church was on the grounds of the venue, so there was no travelling involved! Hatfield House is also very close to us, and we used to go for walks in the grounds. The Old Palace has the most amazing tapestries that we just fell in love with. We also loved the history of the place - Queen Elizabeth I found out she was to be queen there! It also meant that I could live out my fairytale dreams.”
When asked how Lucy felt getting ready, she was a little bit nervous, but had the most wonderful time with all her friends around her. She shares: “My maid of honour surprised me with a beautiful Champagne breakfast. We got ready in a room above the Old Palace, which we had decorated to be absolutely stunning. It was a wonderful morning spent with my loved ones. As someone who loves giving gifts, I presented my bridesmaids with presents, including permanent bracelets as a lasting memento of the day.”
One aspect of wedding planning Lucy wasn’t looking forward to was dress shopping, but she was pleasantly surprised. “I struggled with dress shopping because I am curvaceous and didn’t think I would enjoy the experience, as I’m sure many women can relate to in dressing rooms. I ended up having the best experience with Bridal Reloved in Tring. I came out of the dress shop and some lovely ladies said, ‘We hope you bought that dress, you looked beautiful!’, which made me feel fantastic, and of course, I had said yes to the dress! I then altered my dress by adding sleeves and a detachable bow onto the back to make it more personalised. I absolutely loved wearing it and felt like a princess, filled with confidence.”
The couple’s dream wedding was brought to life by a talented team of suppliers. Stacey Greenshield Art contributed beautiful illustrations throughout the event, including personalised menus featuring their beloved pet chickens and cats. Guests raved about the exquisite five-course meal and champagne sorbet provided by Whitebox Catering. The Herts Flower Girl created stunning floral arrangements in keeping with the colour scheme and venue. “Our wedding was very traditional. For the processional, we chose the Bridal Chorus played on the organ, as I had never experienced it at a wedding before. During the signing of the register, a friend sang ‘We Pledge to One Another.’ Our hymns were ‘Guide me, O thou Great Redeemer’ and ‘Jerusalem,’ which we selected because as Literature students, the fact that William Blake was the author held special significance for us.” Adam is particularly musical, and he was in charge of the tunes. They were lucky to have SoulFish on the day, a band that got everyone up. WH
Their love story began through Kailey’s brother, Jonathan, who has been Henry’s best friend since childhood. Years later, their relationship took root on a trip to Mozambique, where they bonded while visiting a local orphanage. “That was when we realised we shared the same values,” Kailey says. That sense of shared purpose carried through to their wedding day. Held at the same Leicestershire estate where Henry’s parents married decades earlier, the venue held deep sentimental value. “It felt like the perfect place to begin our own chapter,” Henry says.
When Henry and Kailey planned their wedding, they made every detail count. From their venue to their vows, the day was filled with deeply personal touches - each one a reflection of who they are and what they value. The couple welcomed 130 guests, with 80 staying overnight at the enchanting Kilworth House, a 38-acre estate set in the heart of England. “We wanted to make the experience last,” says Kailey. “So many weddings feel like they fly by. We wanted our guests to really savour it and create memories together that they could also cherish forever.”
The joyous occasion unfolded with peals of laughter echoing amongst the gathered guests, as the newly united couple celebrated their love. Their special day was meticulously crafted, offering a wealth of cherished moments, from lively dances that filled the reception hall to heartfelt speeches that spoke volumes about the remarkable bond between the bride and groom. Every detail was imbued with significance. A poignant ‘In Loving Memory’ table served as a loving tribute to those dearly missed, their presence felt in the quiet reflections of their guests. As the evening transitioned, the celebration continued in the intimate ambience of a cellar bar, fostering an atmosphere of warmth for the after-party. For Kailey and her partner, the desire was to leave a lasting impression on their guests. “We wanted our guests to leave with more than memories,” Kailey reflected, emphasising their wish for everyone to depart with a tangible keepsake that held personal meaning, a reminder of the love and happiness that permeated the day.
But perhaps the most meaningful detail was their choice to support VOW for Girls, a nonprofit working to end child marriage. In place of traditional favours, each guest received a handcrafted heart ornament made by Henry’s mother, paired with charity scratch cards and a note explaining their support for VOW for Girls.
“We knew we wanted our wedding to reflect the gratitude we felt for being able to choose each other,” Henry says. “Supporting VOW was a way to honour that.” Kailey’s father and stepmother donated to VOW in the couple’s name instead of giving a traditional wedding gift. The couple also created a VOW fundraising page to raise awareness.

The couple was flexible on the date for their wedding; they both knew they wanted a spring celebration as it’s their favourite time of year, so when Delamere Manor had an April date available, they knew it was meant to be. “We had two venues for our wedding: a church in Liverpool for the actual wedding, and then the amazing Delamere Manor, Cheshire, for the reception. It was really important to Olivia to get married in Bishop Eton Church, as this is where three generations of her family have all been married, so this was super special. But for the reception, we both wanted a venue which was closer to where we live and a completely private place, and Delamere does that perfectly with the various areas you can use throughout your day. One of the best parts is the secret nightclub that we only revealed to guests after our first dance,” the couple reminisces.
The day unfolded as a relaxed and unhurried experience, allowing the couple to fully savour every moment. Olivia got ready at her family home with her parents, sisters and bridal party in Liverpool whilst Charlie got ready with his groomsmen at the venue. “Getting ready at home was special, and having hair and makeup early on gave us all time to relax once we were ready, so nothing in the morning felt rushed, and it was such a lovely experience to be able to share,” said Olivia. Charlie told us: “the wedding morning went really quickly, especially after a drink or two!” Another moment the couple cherished was the drive between venues, allowing them to reflect on the service, revel in their newlywed status, and anticipate the day ahead.
Their white and gold wedding with a luxurious feel was achieved within budget thanks to Tamaryn’s Treasures. They creatively maximised the impact of the white calla lilies and hydrangeas with white stocks and gypsophila. A clean aesthetic was created with glass jars, candlesticks, and floating candles as centrepieces.
Personalised menus by By Invitationly and white and gold macarons by Cheshire Cake Bakes served as keepsakes and favours, completing the look. The couple continues to express: “All of the suppliers, from start to finish, were absolutely amazing and exceeded all of our expectations, we were so lucky. Our photographer Monika was amazing and captured the day so beautifully. One of the other major suppliers was Delamere Manor and their caterer’s cheeky Chilli. Both went above and beyond at every step, with guests commenting on the food, hospitality and service from them both. I couldn’t recommend either of them more highly.”
Finding a unique, traditional-style dress was easy with the help of mum. Olivia explains, “I initially dismissed a high-neck Jesus Peiro dress, but it became perfect with customisations like buttons and pockets after my mum encouraged me to try it. A locally-made Italian tulle cathedral veil with subtle diamantes complemented my shoes and handbag. The large skirt and veil made me feel super bridal, and the pockets were a practical addition for storing lip gloss whenever I needed a top-up. For the evening, I took off my veil, restyled my hair and hit the dance floor.”

“Our aim was for our theme of combining tradition with modernity to flow through all our choices, including our music repertoire.” The church featured a traditional organist, trumpeter, soprano, and hymns. We opted for the Taste of Samba premium tasting menu - an excellent way to sample the very best with 13 picture-perfect plates, including: crispy crab taquitos, wagyu gyoza, and black cod anticuchos - ideal for sharing.
