FREE COPY DOING THE CRANE SHAKE Our Blue Cranes are in the last few weeks of their flocking behaviour as they congregate alongside sheep at feeding troughs in the Overberg. Their elegant display dances have started, and very soon pairs will wander off on their own to start nesting in the fields where they will lay two to three eggs on open ground, or sometimes on raised platform nests, where there is a high water table. Please remember that the breeding season is very important to our Blue Cranes – roughly 60% to 70% of the estimated 17 000 cranes are non-breeding individuals – therefore it is most important to not disturb them on their nests in the coming months. Let’s work together to ensure we have many fluffy fledglings this season.

A hole in one for Hermanus

H

ermanus is set to play host to what could become one of the greatest events on the South African sporting calendar. From Friday 24 February to Sunday 26 February 2017 some of the top women golfers from around the globe will take part in the inaugural Global

Challenge on the Hermanus Golf Course. The challenge will pit 10 players from the Northern Hemi-sphere against their Southern Hemisphere counterparts. Says Global Challenge spokesperson, Kaz Henderson: “The aim is for this challenge to be on a par

with the Solheim Cup, which is a biennial golf tournament for professional women golfers contested by teams representing Europe and the United States. This event attracted some 25 000 spectators daily at the 2015 event in Germany.
