Major Difference Between Zigbee Gateway and Z-Wave Gateway By now, it is undeniable that smart tech is not just a passing trend. It is here to stay as more devices are being introduced and used by many people as an important aspect of their daily lives. If you are new to the Internet of Things and smart devices, you are likely to come across two options in mesh wireless technologies, such as Z-Wave and Zigbee gateway. Both are low-power tech designed to deliver small volumes of data within short to medium distances. However, there are differences you need to consider before you choose one or the other. The major differences to know One of the most noticeable differences between IoT Zigbee gateway and Z-Wave is the way their ecosystem is controlled. The latter is specifically designed for the smart home or any smart space, whereas the former is useful for many different applications. While you cannot expect two Zigbee devices to be interoperable, you can consider pre-planning the interoperability of the two. Z-Wave applications can easily integrate with another Z-Wave. Another notable difference between the two is in the frequency. Zigbee uses 2.4GHz ISM, the global standard, and Z-Wave runs on 915MHz band (US) or 868MHz RFID (Europe). The global standard of Zigbee gateway makes its hardware useful no matter where you go. Take note, however, that it may be subject to interference from Bluetooth and Wi-Fi systems, so if you are concerned with that, you may want to consider Z Wave home automation. Zigbee radios are widely available with many providers, but Z-Wave utilizes Sigma designs’ proprietary radio system. The latter also uses FSK (frequency-shift keyed) modulation, and the former uses modulation, which is administered by DSSS (direct sequence spread spectrum). Take note of your requirements When deciding between IoT Zigbee gateway and Z Wave home automation, you need to be clear on your objectives. If you want your devices to work without coordination among the vendors on the stack’s different parts, then Z-Wave may be a good choice. If interoperability is not a big deal, then Zigbee gateway could be the best option. When in doubt, get in touch with a reliable service provider who can assess your needs and recommend the best solution for you.
