01 His Majesty is received by senior officials as he begins his tour of the 8th and largest edition of Mara’ee, highlighting Bahrain’s commitment to agriculture, livestock, and food security
Under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Mara’ee 2025 was launched at the Bahrain International Endurance Village. His Majesty’s presence underscored the significance of the exhibition as one of the Kingdom’s leading platforms dedicated
to agriculture, livestock, heritage and food production. Upon arrival, His Majesty was received by senior officials and welcomed as the exhibition began its 8th and largest edition to date.
The event served as a national showcase of Bahrain’s commitment to agricultural sustainability, food security and the preservation of its agricultural heritage. Throughout the opening, His Majesty’s involvement highlighted the central role the sector plays in national development and its long term importance to the wellbeing of the country. The exhibition’s growth reflects the royal vision that places agriculture and livestock development at the heart of efforts to diversify the economy, support local production and protect the environment.
Mara’ee 2025 brought together a wide range of participants from Bahrain and abroad, with exhibits focused on modern agricultural technology, livestock breeding, plant development and food production. The event also included expanded displays and pavilions that introduced new environmental themes. One of the notable additions this year was a dedicated mangrove pavilion, designed to raise awareness about the ecological value of mangrove habitats and their role in supporting biodiversity, protecting shorelines and mitigating the effects of climate change.
The exhibition featured a broad mix of activities and displays that appealed to professionals, families and students. Livestock showcases, farming demonstrations and agricultural equipment displays were presented alongside cultural and recreational
components. Traditional arts, heritage performances and equestrian displays formed an integral part of the program, reflecting the enduring connection between Bahrain’s rural traditions and its cultural identity. Equestrian teams from Bahrain and the Republic of Azerbaijan added an international dimension to the opening program, reinforcing ties between the two countries through the shared values of horsemanship and cultural exchange.
His Majesty toured the exhibition, meeting participants and observing the various displays that highlighted national capabilities in agriculture and livestock. He presented awards to winners of competitions held as part of the event, recognizing their contributions to the sector. His Majesty also acknowledged the efforts of the Royal Guard, participating organizations and regional partners who played a role in the success of Mara’ee 2025.
He also expressed appreciation for the work carried out to promote sustainable agricultural development, including initiatives that expand green coverage across the Kingdom. Projects to plant tree species suited to Bahrain’s climate, along with major expansions in mangrove cultivation, reflect a broader national focus on environmental responsibility. These efforts support long term ecological stability while contributing to improved quality of life.

Mara’ee 2025 showcased several national projects connected to the future of agriculture. These included ongoing initiatives to allocate land to Bahraini farmers and breeders to support local production. Another major project highlighted this year was the establishment of a plant genetic resources bank to help protect and preserve plant species for future generations. The exhibition also shed light on the creation of an international dates observatory in cooperation with the International Council for Dates in Saudi Arabia, intended to serve as a global hub for research, exchange of expertise and monitoring developments in date production and trade.
As Mara’ee 2025 concluded its opening day, it reaffirmed its role as one of Bahrain’s most important annual events. It provides a platform for local producers, encourages investment, elevates agricultural standards and supports the Kingdom’s long-term strategy for food security. The exhibition continues to grow as a national gathering that celebrates progress, strengthens community ties and highlights Bahrain’s commitment to a sustainable and productive agricultural future.

The 46th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council Supreme Council, held at Al Sakhir Palace, marked an important moment for the Kingdom of Bahrain as it assumed a leading role in guiding regional dialogue. Its selection as the host placed the Kingdom at the forefront of GCC cooperation, and the chairmanship of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa underscored the confidence member states place in Bahrain’s ability to facilitate constructive discussion.
The meeting brought together the leaders of all GCC member states or their official representatives. With full representation from all member states, the session provided a platform to review progress in political, economic, security, and developmental cooperation.
As chair of the 46th session, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa guided the discussions and oversaw the adoption of the final documents. Bahrain also presented a Government Action Programme for 2026 as part of its GCC presidency. Member states agreed to review the programme and provide feedback through official channels. This contribution gave Bahrain a direct role in shaping the GCC agenda for the coming year and added further weight to its hosting responsibilities.
The final communique outlined a wide range of outcomes. Member states reaffirmed the established
principle that GCC security is unified and that any threat to one member affects the collective. This remains a core element of the GCC’s foundation and was reiterated clearly during the Manama session.
Economic integration formed a substantial part of the discussions. The leaders reviewed ongoing work related to the GCC Customs Union and the GCC Common Market. They endorsed steps aimed at deeper economic coordination including regulatory harmonization, streamlined trade procedures, and expanded opportunities for the movement of goods and services. Additional measures covered mutual recognition of professional qualifications, joint industrial initiatives, and plans for a Made in the Gulf Forum and Exhibition in 2026 to support regional production and competitiveness.
The session also approved several institutional
and infrastructure related actions. These included advancing the establishment of a GCC Civil Aviation Authority, moving forward with the GCC Railway Project agreement, and adopting unified regulations for joint real estate ownership among member states. These decisions aim to reinforce practical mechanisms for regional cooperation and improve long-term connectivity within the Gulf. Governance and legal alignment were also addressed. The communique highlighted cooperation on transparency, anti-corruption efforts, and government performance enhancement. Member states discussed coordination in human rights, measures to combat human trafficking, and steps to strengthen legislative and judicial cooperation. These topics reflect broader efforts to modernize government systems and align policies across the region.

“ As chair of the 46th session, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa guided the
discussions and oversaw the adoption of the final documents.
”
Environmental and energy issues featured prominently as well. The communique noted the importance of coordinated approaches to environmental challenges and climate change and stressed cooperation on energy policies. The leaders discussed collective responses to global energy market fluctuations and reaffirmed shared goals related to energy transition and long-term sustainability.
For the Kingdom of Bahrain, hosting the 46th session reinforced its longstanding commitment to the GCC framework and its readiness to support collective regional progress. The national significance of the event was reflected in a commemorative stamp series issued by Bahrain Post to mark the occasion. Through its role as host and chair, Bahrain contributed to advancing cooperation across security, economic development, governance, energy, and environmental fields.

In a celebration of heritage and history, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, graced the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) on behalf of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was warmly received by His Excellency Abdel Fattah ElSisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
His Royal Highness the Crown Prince conveyed the greetings of His Majesty the King and extended heartfelt congratulations to President El-Sisi and the people of Egypt on this landmark occasion. Highlighting the museum’s significance, His Royal Highness underscored how the GEM embodies the richness of Egyptian civilization, showcasing a legacy that has shaped human history for millennia.
Touring the museum’s state-of-the-art exhibition halls, His Royal Highness explored a curated collection of rare artefacts spanning the Pharaonic era, each piece narrating a story of Egypt’s scientific, intellectual, and cultural contributions. His Royal Highness praised Egypt’s tireless dedication to preserving its archaeological treasures, noting that such efforts foster global cultural dialogue and connect civilizations across time and space.
The opening ceremony itself, a captivating performance celebrating Egypt’s enduring civilization, was highlighted by His Royal Highness as a symbol of the nation’s cultural vitality. He also commended Egypt’s leadership in safeguarding heritage, emphasizing the museum’s role in
promoting Arab and Islamic intellectual traditions while reinforcing a shared pride in humanity’s collective history.
Reflecting on the broader relationship between Bahrain and Egypt, His Royal Highness expressed pride in the longstanding strategic partnership, built on collaboration across multiple sectors under the guidance of both His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and President El-Sisi. He extended his best wishes for Egypt’s continued prosperity, recognizing the nation’s remarkable achievements and global cultural influence.
His Royal Highness the Crown Prince’s visit to the GEM was more than a ceremonial occasion. It was a celebration of art, history, and the timeless dialogue between past and present, a reminder that true luxury lies not only in opulence, but in the preservation and appreciation of human heritage.
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is nothing short of a cultural revelation, representing the most ambitious and extensive archaeological project Egypt has ever undertaken. Situated near the Giza Plateau, just a stone’s throw from the
iconic Pyramids, the museum spans approximately 490,000 square meters and has been built to showcase thousands of years of human history. Within its vast grounds the GEM features a 7,000 square meter atrium, dominated by a colossal statue of Ramses II, a breathtaking centerpiece that signals the grandeur of what awaits inside.
A six-story Grand Staircase leads visitors upward, flanked by statues and monuments drawing them into a journey through time. Twelve main galleries span about 18,000 square meters, complemented by temporary exhibition spaces and a dedicated gallery for children, turning GEM into more than a museum; it is a living cultural destination.
The GEM is home to over 57,000 artefacts, with additional collections and conservation labs bringing the total number of preserved objects to more than 100,000. Among the most anticipated displays is the full collection of Tutankhamun, more than 5,000 objects from his tomb, now reunited in a dedicated 7,500 square meter gallery. For the first time since their discovery in the early 20th century, these treasures will be

exhibited together under one roof. Also featured are monumental artefacts such as ancient royal statues and the restored solar boat of Khufu, now standing as part of GEM’s permanent narrative.
Visitors to GEM will find more than relics of the past. The museum offers immersive exhibitions, educational and children’s spaces, conservation labs, commercial areas including restaurants and cafés, as well as visitor services, all designed to turn a museum visit into a complete cultural experience.
The project’s ambition extends beyond mere size. GEM has earned accolades for architectural excellence and sustainability. It has gained green-building certification and international awards, underlining Egypt’s commitment not only to preserving its past but also to doing so with environmental responsibility and world-class standards.
By offering high-quality visitor experiences, from immersive exhibitions to education programs and visitor amenities, GEM positions itself among the most modern museums globally while remaining deeply rooted in antiquity.

The Kingdom of Bahrain’s longstanding equestrian heritage once again drew international attention as the $1 million Bahrain International Trophy delivered a memorable display of global racing excellence. Hosted at the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC), the event underscored Bahrain’s growing stature as a destination on the international racing calendar.

The atmosphere reflected a blend of high-stakes competition and cultural appreciation. The event was attended by prominent figures, highlighting the commitment of Bahrain’s leadership to the sport. Attendees included His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Court and Chairman of the REHC High Committee. Their presence underlined the importance of the Bahrain International Trophy in promoting the Kingdom globally and attracting elite horses, trainers, and jockeys.
The main event of the evening was the $1 million Bahrain International Trophy, a Group Two race contested over a 2,000-meter distance. The race has steadily established itself as a key fixture in the sport’s calendar, drawing seasoned international contenders and further elevating the quality of competition in the Kingdom.
The race once again delivered a thrilling spectacle. After breaking from the stalls, the field settled quickly and travelled in a compact group for much of the race. Turning into the straight, the leading contenders moved forward, and Royal Champion, owned by Shaikh Mohamed Obaid Al Maktoum, picked up best. The Karl Burke trained gelding surged ahead in the closing stages to land the feature race of Bahrain’s season. Galen kept on for second, with Military Order finishing third.

The continued success of the Bahrain International Trophy reflects the vision of the REHC High Committee, chaired by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The club’s focus on racing quality, investment in facilities, and professional standards has strengthened Bahrain’s position alongside established racing nations.
With the Bahrain International Trophy concluded, attention now turns to the wider series of international races staged throughout Bahrain’s winter season. These fixtures bring global runners into direct competition with leading locally trained horses and provide consistent, high-quality racing for participants and spectators alike. The calendar concludes with the prestigious King’s Cup, won last year by the domestically trained and owned Sovereign Spirit. This result highlighted the growing depth of Bahrain’s own racing talent.
The continued development of REHC and its international programme reflects the club’s broader role within the Kingdom. As Bahrain strengthens its reputation for hosting major sporting occasions, the racecourse has become a focal point for both the local community and visiting participants. The growth of international runners, improved facilities, and an increasingly competitive racing calendar demonstrate the club’s emergence as a place to be in Bahrain and an important player on the sport’s global stage.

02 A panoramic view of the Royal Bahrain Concours showcasing an exceptional lineup of collector cars displayed along the waterfront at Riffa Views
discusses the Royal Bahrain Concours, revealing how this new GCC automotive event blends luxury, heritage, and modern motoring to captivate collectors and enthusiasts.
THE ROYAL BAHRAIN CONCOURS IS LAUNCHING WITH THE AMBITION TO BECOME THE NUMBER ONE CONCOURS IN THE GCC AND THE MIDDLE EAST. WHAT ELEMENTS WILL DIFFERENTIATE IT FROM OTHER WORLD-CLASS MOTORING EVENTS AND MAKE IT A MUST-ATTEND FOR GLOBAL COLLECTORS AND ENTHUSIASTS?
The timing of the event in November is ideal, as it falls during a quiet period in the global motoring calendar. This makes it appealing for owners to bring their cars to enjoy both the event and the winter sun in Bahrain. What sets it apart is the GCC car market itself. While traditional Concours focus on pre-1940s and classic 1950s and 1960s cars, the Royal Bahrain Concours highlights more modern vehicles, reflecting regional tastes. For example, the 1972 Lamborghini Miura, once owned by the ex-Shah of Iran, won at the first event. We also feature unique classes, such as 4x4s and modified cars, which are very popular locally. Looking ahead, we plan to introduce categories for younger audiences and even Falcon vehicles. The event also aims to unite collectors from across the GCC. Owners from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, and Qatar attended this year, and we want to grow this participation to celebrate the GCC as a whole, not just Bahrain.
BAHRAIN IS ALREADY A WELLESTABLISHED DESTINATION FOR MAJOR EVENTS LIKE THE FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX. WHY WAS BAHRAIN CHOSEN AS THE HOME FOR THIS CONCOURS, AND HOW DOES THE KINGDOM’S UNIQUE BLEND OF HERITAGE AND MODERN LUXURY CONTRIBUTE?
Bahrain offers a compact venue where attendees can concentrate in one place for three days. Unlike some larger cities where people scatter to various attractions, Bahrain allows collectors to truly connect, enjoy the cars, and build friendships. The Kingdom culture is welcoming, and its people are incredibly friendly. We’re fortunate to have His Royal Highness as a patron. His knowledge and passion for cars are extraordinary, and his presence adds significant value for international guests. It’s not just about funding the event; it’s about fostering genuine enthusiasm and passion.
BEYOND THE STUNNING CARS, HOW WILL THE ROYAL BAHRAIN CONCOURS CREATE A SENSE OF COMMUNITY AND SHARED APPRECIATION FOR AUTOMOTIVE EXCELLENCE?
We want the event to be a highlight of the year. Beyond the cars, we aim to create a true luxury lifestyle experience. This includes showcasing 01

regional luxury products, such as perfumery, yachts, and fashion. It’s about curating an event that appeals to owners and visitors alike. Next year, for example, we plan to introduce a ladies’ day and a prestige day to make the event more inclusive and encourage couples to attend. The focus is on building community through shared passion, not just displaying cars.
WHAT LEGACY DO YOU HOPE THE ROYAL BAHRAIN CONCOURS WILL BUILD FOR BAHRAIN, IN TERMS OF CULTURAL PRESTIGE AND ECONOMIC IMPACT?
Many international attendees had never visited Bahrain before. They fell in love with the country, and we hope they will share their experience worldwide. Beyond attracting affluent visitors, the event encourages GCC residents to visit Bahrain en masse with their cars, boosting tourism and the local economy. It’s about giving people an authentic reason to spend a weekend enjoying car culture here.
EACH VEHICLE TELLS A STORY OF ARTISTRY AND ENGINEERING. CAN YOU SHARE AN EXAMPLE OF A CAR WITH A PARTICULARLY POWERFUL NARRATIVE?
One standout is the 1955 Lincoln showcased at the Geneva Motor Show. It was so beautiful and well-crafted that Henry Ford reportedly bought it from the motorship to take it home. Although it never went into production, it remains a work of art. Events like ours celebrate cars as art, metal sculptures that evoke emotion and admiration.
THE ROYAL BAHRAIN CONCOURS POSITIONS ITSELF ALONGSIDE LEGENDARY EVENTS LIKE PEBBLE BEACH AND VILLA D’ESTE. WHAT LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM THESE ESTABLISHED CONCOURS, AND WHAT WILL BAHRAIN DO UNIQUELY?
From experience, the key is understanding what visitors want, not just what organizers want. Bahrain’s event focuses on modern elegance and luxury, appealing to GCC collectors. Attendees treat the cars with respect, appreciating them as art rather than exhibits at a motor show. The level of refinement and engagement from our audience is unique for the region.

WHAT IS YOUR LONG-TERM VISION FOR THE GROWTH AND EVOLUTION OF THE ROYAL BAHRAIN CONCOURS, AND HOW WILL YOU ENSURE IT CONTINUES TO INNOVATE?
We aim to continually elevate the event’s luxury and appeal, expanding vehicle classes and attracting international media recognition. Our ambition is to place the Royal Bahrain Concours among the top global Concours. The event will evolve with new luxury products, interactive experiences, and media initiatives such as Royal Bahrain Concours TV. We also plan to develop complementary activities across Bahrain, enhancing the overall experience. The goal is to create a prestigious regional hub for motoring excellence, setting the standard for the Middle East for decades to come.

“ At the heart of the City Palace lies a connection to the Princely Collections, one of the world’s most extensive private art collections. ”

In Vienna’s historic first district, where grand avenues recall the city’s imperial past, the Liechtenstein City Palace rises as a masterpiece of Baroque elegance. More than a palace, it is the embodiment of heritage, artistry, and values that have shaped one of Europe’s most distinguished noble families: the Princely House of Liechtenstein.
Acquired as an unfinished building by Prince Johann Adam Andreas I von Liechtenstein in 1694, the City Palace was then commissioned and conceived as both a residence and a statement of refinement. Its façade, with its perfect balance of dignity and grace, spoke to the family’s place at the heart of European society. More than three centuries later, the City Palace remains a living legacy. Its frescoed ceilings and marble halls, lovingly restored, continue to welcome visitors from around the world.
Few dynasties can claim a lineage as enduring as the Princely Family of Liechtenstein. From the 12th century, the family rose through astute leadership and alliances, including close ties with the powerful Habsburg emperors. In 1719, the family achieved sovereignty with the creation of the Principality of Liechtenstein, a state that endures today as a symbol of independence and stability.
Prince Johann Adam Andreas I, the visionary behind the City Palace, personified the family’s values of ambition, taste, and cultural stewardship. His commissions laid the foundation for the Princely Collections, now one of the world’s most important private art holdings. Spanning centuries and featuring masters such as Raphael, Rubens, and van Dyck, the Princely Collections reflect not only
connoisseurship but a duty to preserve beauty for future generations. This dual identity, as sovereigns and as cultural custodians, has defined the Princely Family across generations.
To step inside the City Palace is to enter a world where time seems suspended. Its sweeping staircases, mirrored salons, and frescoed ceilings reveal artistry of the highest order. Every detail is a dialogue between past and present, a reminder of the family’s devotion to beauty and craftsmanship.
Since April 2013, the City Palace has been serving as exclusive venues for private events and functions. Its luxurious setting, featuring Baroque stucco ceilings, opulent neo-Rococo interiors and original furnishings complemented by Michael Thonet’s fine parquet flooring, is perfect for highend social gatherings and corporate events.
At the heart of the City Palace lies a connection to the Princely Collections, one of the world’s most extensive private art collections. These works of art are not locked away, but thoughtfully displayed and, at times, shared with audiences beyond Vienna. A selection of unique masterpieces of art from the Biedermeier era, currently housed in the Palace, may be viewed exclusively as part of an event or a booked guided tour. Exhibitions across the world have also
allowed new generations to encounter the genius of European masters, reinforcing the Princely Family’s role as cultural ambassadors.
Behind the splendor of the City Palace lies a philosophy that has defined the Princely Family for centuries: stewardship, responsibility, and a long-term perspective. These values are not abstract ideals. They are lived daily, guiding the preservation of art and architecture, shaping the principality’s modern role, and informing the family’s philanthropic and entrepreneurial initiatives.
The family’s vision rests on a belief that heritage must not be confined to the past. It must remain alive, relevant, and generative. This outlook explains why the City Palace continues to resonate today, as a meeting place of history and modernity, as a cultural bridge between Europe and the world, and as a symbol of continuity in a changing era.
The City Palace is not only a cultural jewel. It also plays a role in the family’s modern business legacy. Today, it houses the Vienna branch of LGT Private Banking, the global private bank owned by the Princely Family. From this historic address, LGT serves wealthy families, individuals and private clients from across Europe and the world, blending centuries-old values with contemporary expertise in wealth management.
Intricate sculptural and ornamental details inside the
highlighting the exceptional artistry and craftsmanship preserved across generations

This continuity is central to LGT’s philosophy. The same values that have guided the Princely Family in preserving art and heritage-long-term perspective, responsibility, and stewardship-also define the way the bank serves its clients. It is about safeguarding wealth for the future, just as the family has preserved its cultural treasures for centuries. As part of its international diversification strategy, LGT has expanded globally, including the establishment of LGT Middle East in Dubai in 2012.
From its regional hubs in Dubai and across Asia-Pacific, LGT Private Banking extends this heritage to some of the most dynamic markets in the world. In Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, India, and beyond, clients are welcomed into a private banking experience that unites innovation with tradition, one that is deeply anchored in the family’s 900-year legacy.
The City Palace represents more than Baroque splendor. It stands as a living bridge between heritage and modern private banking, connecting Vienna’s past with the ambitions of today’s clients across the globe.

Hawar Resort by Mantis Commercial Director ilhan Anıl discusses sustainability, authentic guest experiences, family-focused offerings, and his long-term vision for positioning Hawar as a world-class eco-destination.
HAWAR RESORT BY MANTIS IS LOCATED ON A TRULY UNIQUE NATURAL ISLAND. WHAT DISTINCT EXPERIENCES AND NATURAL ELEMENTS HAS MANTIS LEVERAGED TO DIFFERENTIATE THIS RESORT FROM OTHER LUXURY DESTINATIONS IN THE GCC?
Hawar Resort by Mantis is not just another beach resort. The entire identity is built around experience and connection to nature. The name itself is an acronym for Man and Nature Together Is Sustainable. Everything we offer is rooted in sustainability, environmental appreciation, and showcasing the natural beauty of Hawar Island, combined with the warm and hospitable culture of Bahrain. Our goal is for guests to truly feel this blend of nature, culture, and serenity from the moment they arrive.
GIVEN THE FRAGILE ECOSYSTEM OF HAWAR ISLAND, HOW IS MANTIS INTEGRATING SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES AND CONSERVATION EFFORTS INTO THE RESORT’S DAILY OPERATIONS AND GUEST EXPERIENCES?
Sustainability is one of our core pillars, and as part of the Accor group, Mantis is positioned as
the brand that leads sustainability efforts across the portfolio. We enforce zero single-use plastic, conduct regular beach cleanups as part of team building, and recently introduced the Winnow system to measure and reduce food waste. Within the first month, food wastage dropped by 30 to 34 percent. We have also begun composting. The goal is to constantly refine our operations to protect and enhance Hawar’s environment.
AS A TEAM, HOW DO YOU BALANCE MAINTAINING THE MANTIS BRAND’S DEDICATION TO CURATED, AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCES WHILE DELIVERING THE HIGH STANDARDS OF LUXURY EXPECTED BY TODAY’S INTERNATIONAL AND REGIONAL TRAVELERS?
These two priorities are not in conflict. Today’s luxury traveler is highly aware of environmental impact and wants reassurance that their visit is not harming the destination. At Hawar, the experience actually strengthens the ecosystem and supports its preservation as an eco-destination. Guests enjoy world-class luxury while contributing to sustainability. The Mantis philosophy naturally blends authenticity, curated experiences, and premium service.

“ Our goal is for guests to truly feel this blend of nature, culture, and serenity from the moment they arrive. ”

HOW DOES HAWAR RESORT ENGAGE WITH THE LOCAL BAHRAINI CULTURE, ENVIRONMENT, AND COMMUNITY? ARE THERE SPECIFIC INITIATIVES TO INCORPORATE LOCAL ARTISANS, CUISINE, OR TALENT?
Local culture is another fundamental pillar for us. Bahraini hospitality, cuisine, and traditions are beautifully rich, and we make sure guests experience them authentically. We recently launched our Bedouin tent experience, offering traditional Bahraini music, cuisine, camel and horse interactions, a campfire setup, oyster shucking with pearls, and even traditional attire for photos. These experiences allow guests to leave with meaningful cultural memories that reflect Bahrain’s heritage.
WHO IS THE CORE TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC FOR HAWAR RESORT, AND WHAT SPECIFIC MARKETING OR OUTREACH STRATEGIES ARE YOU EMPLOYING TO REACH THAT AUDIENCE REGIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY?
Our primary focus is families. We aim to be as family-friendly as possible, and children are truly treated as VIPs. We have dedicated kids’ and teens’ spaces, along with numerous activities that keep them engaged safely. It is always rewarding when parents tell us their children haven’t looked at their phones all day because they’re busy exploring. The Bear Grylls Adventure Center plays a major role in this, giving children the chance to climb, tie
knots, and experience real adventure in a safe and supervised environment.
LOOKING AHEAD FIVE YEARS, WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE VISION FOR HAWAR RESORT BY MANTIS, BOTH IN TERMS OF REPUTATION AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO BAHRAIN’S TOURISM LANDSCAPE?
We want Hawar Island to be recognized globally as a leading eco-destination, not just within Bahrain or the GCC. The fauna, flora, and natural environment here are truly exceptional, and they deserve global attention. Our goal is for every Bahraini to feel proud of Hawar as a national jewel. Whenever Hawar is mentioned, it should be seen as the pearl in Bahrain’s oyster.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST UNIQUE OPERATIONAL OR LOGISTICAL CHALLENGE HAWAR TEAM HAS FACED IN BRINGING A RESORT OF THIS SCALE AND CONCEPT TO LIFE ON A REMOTE ISLAND LOCATION?
The challenge lies in the very nature of the island. Everything consumed here, and every person working here, must be transported by barge or boat. It is a massive logistical operation. Fortunately, we have a remarkable team that thrives on challenges. After a few months of operating, the process has become smoother, though it remains complex. At Mantis, we embrace challenges because doing something different is part of who we are.

As the MEAI region grows in influence, Hublot continues to expand its footprint and refine its identity. David Tedeschi discusses the strategy, craftsmanship, and community focus driving the brand’s momentum.
HUBLOT’S PHILOSOPHY IS THE ART OF FUSION. HOW DO YOU TRANSLATE THIS DNA INTO A STRATEGY THAT RESONATES ACROSS THE MEAI REGION, ESPECIALLY IN TERMS OF SPECIAL EDITIONS, PARTNERSHIPS, AND CULTURAL RELEVANCE?
Hublot has always embodied the Art of Fusion in watchmaking. This has been our philosophy since Mr. Biver took over the brand in 2004, and one of the things he understood early was the importance of developing local editions for local markets. It’s something we’ve done consistently for many years. Most recently, during Dubai Watch Week, we launched special editions in partnership with Seddiqi to mark both the 20th anniversary of the Big Bang and Seddiqi’s 75th anniversary. These editions sold out almost immediately. Collectors in the Middle East appreciate watches created specifically for them, and these projects strengthen the bond between Hublot and the community. Their success is the best proof that we must continue developing limited regional editions.
YOU’VE MENTIONED BEFORE THAT THE MIDDLE EAST IS HIGHLY SATURATED WITH LUXURY BRANDS. HOW DOES HUBLOT MAINTAIN ITS COMPETITIVE EDGE AND FOSTER THE HUBLOTISTA COMMUNITY AMID SUCH INTENSE COMPETITION?
Hublot is very well established in the Middle
East and Africa. We’ve spent years building a solid foundation, and today our distribution strategy is one of our strengths. Across the Middle East, Africa, and India, we operate 20 boutiques, which gives us strong control of brand equity and allows us to engage closely with clients. At the same time, we believe in maintaining a selective multi-brand network. It helps us reach a wider audience and remain accessible while still protecting the brand’s positioning. This region also has unique characteristics. For example, our client base here is almost evenly split between men and women: 51% men and 49% women. Globally, that ratio is closer to 70–30. The Middle East stands out as a leading market not only in volume, but also in diversity and sophistication.
YOU ARE EXPANDING PHYSICAL RETAIL IN MARKETS LIKE INDIA AND SAUDI ARABIA WHILE ALSO EMPHASIZING DIGITALIZATION. HOW DO YOU BALANCE THE IMPORTANCE OF THE LUXURY INSTORE EXPERIENCE WITH THE RISE OF E-COMMERCE?
There has been a fundamental shift in consumer behavior since COVID. Before the pandemic, most brands were focused on retail and wholesale. During lockdowns, everyone had to adapt quickly, and e-commerce became essential. However, in luxury watchmaking, the online share remains very small for us. Young generations do purchase more online, but most clients in this category still
want a full boutique experience. They want to speak to the team, understand the watch, and feel it on their wrist. That’s something digital cannot replicate unless you already know exactly what you want. E-commerce remains important and we will continue developing it, but the in-store experience will always be at the heart of luxury watchmaking.
WITH YOUR ENGINEERING AND WATCHMAKING BACKGROUND, HOW DOES YOUR TECHNICAL EXPERTISE INFLUENCE YOUR COMMERCIAL STRATEGY AS MANAGING DIRECTOR?
It’s incredibly valuable to have a deep understanding of what we manufacture. Hublot became a true manufacture in 2010, yet we never heavily promoted that aspect because the brand was often seen as provocative, innovative, and marketing driven. But the truth is that our watchmaking savoir-faire is exceptional. Our first in-house movement, the Unico chronograph, marked a major milestone. Since then, we have developed all our complications internally and created pieces that had never existed in the industry, such as LaFerrari in 2014 and the Key of Time. Understanding these capabilities helps me communicate our values more effectively and highlight the craftsmanship behind the brand. Our CEO, Julien Tornare, shares this focus. Since joining, he has made it a priority to reinforce awareness of our watchmaking expertise.

HUBLOT IS KNOWN FOR ITS MASTERY OF MATERIALS, INCLUDING PROPRIETARY CERAMICS AND SAPPHIRE. IN A REGION WHERE CLIENTS ARE HIGHLY KNOWLEDGEABLE, HOW DO YOU EMPHASIZE YOUR R&D AND MATERIAL INNOVATION?
Clients in the Middle East are true experts. They understand materials, complications, and craftsmanship, which makes discussions here incredibly enriching. Recently, I hosted three members of a regional watch club at the manufacture. They were surprised by the depth of our watchmaking capabilities, from production to complications, and by the scale of our investment in R&D. We develop materials that don’t exist anywhere else. Magic Gold is the best example: an unscratchable gold alloy introduced in 2011. For thousands of years, there had been no evolution in gold alloys until that moment. This spirit of innovation is one of Hublot’s greatest strengths.
HUBLOT PARTICIPATES ACTIVELY IN REGIONAL EVENTS SUCH AS DUBAI WATCH WEEK, THE DOHA JEWELRY AND WATCHES EXHIBITION, AND JEWELLERY ARABIA. HOW DO YOU VIEW DUBAI WATCH WEEK AS A PLATFORM FOR ENGAGING WITH COLLECTORS AND THE INDUSTRY?
Dubai Watch Week is a unique platform because it’s not a commercial event. Unlike Watches and Wonders, Baselworld, SIHH, or even Jewellery Arabia and Doha, Dubai Watch Week is not about
selling. It’s about sharing values, knowledge, and experiences. The Seddiqi family identified a gap in the industry and created an event centered around education and passion. It attracts collectors not only from the region but from around the world, and the international media coverage is remarkable. For us, Dubai Watch Week is an opportunity to connect directly with the community in a meaningful way. It’s now one of the most important events on the global watch calendar.
LOOKING AHEAD, WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR HUBLOT IN THE MIDDLE EAST, AFRICA, AND INDIA BY 2030? WHAT MILESTONES WILL DEFINE SUCCESS?
This region will undergo major developments by 2030, especially in Saudi Arabia, where national transformation is accelerating. We already operate five boutiques there, including our newly inaugurated flagship in Solitaire Mall, opened in October with our CEO and our partners Attar United. Two more boutiques are already in the pipeline. Saudi Arabia still has huge growth potential. The rest of the region is more mature, so the focus there is on increasing market share and achieving steady organic growth. India is another major opportunity. I took over the market earlier this year, and I see significant potential. The brand already enjoys strong equity there, but with the right investment and focus, Hublot can become one of the top brands in the country. That is the ambition for the coming years.

Bahraini pioneer of film and cinematography in the Arab world, Khalifa Shaheen looks back on the moment that first drew him to the camera and how those early experiences guided the path that later defined his work in film and photography.
WHAT FIRST DREW YOU TO PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMMAKING, AND HOW DID YOUR EARLY EXPERIENCES SHAPE YOUR CAREER?
I still remember it as if it were yesterday, my grandmother took me to an outdoor cinema in the 1940s. It was the first time I had ever seen moving pictures. We sat under the stars, and suddenly these people appeared on a white screen, alive and speaking, yet made entirely of light. To a young boy, it was magic, pure magic. That night stayed with me. I couldn’t stop thinking about how it was possible, how something so far away could come to life before our eyes. From that moment, I became fascinated by the idea of capturing life, whether through a still image or on film. I wanted to understand the mystery behind it. That curiosity became the beginning of everything for me, a lifelong journey into photography and cinematography, driven by the same sense of wonder I felt that night.
WHAT FORMATIVE PROJECT OR ASSIGNMENT EARLY IN YOUR CAREER MADE YOU REALIZE THIS WAS YOUR LIFE’S WORK?
In the early days, opportunities were few, and the equipment was rare. But I remember one assignment for the BAPCO film unit, I was asked to film a cultural event. It may sound simple, but to me it was monumental. I held a camera that could truly record life, not just observe it. When I saw the footage projected later, people I knew, their expressions, their movements, I felt something stir inside me. I realised that film wasn’t just a tool, it was a form of preservation. It could hold time still. That moment convinced me this wasn’t just a hobby or a passing fascination. It was my life’s work.
WHAT WAS IT LIKE BEING ONE OF THE FIRST GULF CITIZENS TO WORK WITH PROFESSIONAL FILM EQUIPMENT AND INTERNATIONAL CREWS?
It was both exciting and intimidating. At that time, filmmaking in our region was almost unknown, there were no formal schools, no manuals written in Arabic. Everything I learned came through experimentation and curiosity. When I began working alongside international crews, I suddenly found myself in a world where film was both art and science. They had systems, lighting rigs, storyboards, things I had only read about. But they also respected my eye for the region, for its light and texture. It taught me that while technology and technique are global, storytelling is deeply local. That balance shaped my entire approach.
WHAT WAS IT LIKE WORKING ON A DISNEY PRODUCTION LIKE HAMAD AND THE PIRATES AND EXPERIENCING AN INTERNATIONAL FILM BEING MADE IN THE GULF?
Hamad and the Pirates was a milestone, not only for me, but for Bahrain and the Gulf. To have Disney bring a production to our shores was something unimaginable at the time. Working with them was a revelation, their precision, planning, and creative discipline were unlike anything I had seen. Yet what made it truly special was seeing Bahraini and Gulf culture through their lens, and helping them see it through ours. It was the first time many of our people saw how film could connect cultures, how a story from this part of the world could resonate far beyond it. I felt proud to be part of that bridge, to show that our stories, our people, and our landscapes could stand alongside the world’s.
FILMING THE FIRST MEETING OF GULF RULERS IN DUBAI MUST HAVE BEEN EXTRAORDINARY. WHAT WAS IT LIKE WITNESSING HISTORY FIRSTHAND, AND DID YOU EVER FEEL THE WEIGHT OF PRESERVING HISTORY THROUGH YOUR LENS?
That day remains one of the most profound moments of my life. I was standing in the room with the rulers of my beloved Bahrain and the Gulf, men who would go on to shape our region’s future. There was a sense of quiet purpose, no grand speeches, just a shared understanding that something historic was beginning. As I looked through the viewfinder, I remember thinking, these are not just frames of film, they are the first pages of a new chapter for our part of the world. I felt the weight of responsibility. A camera, in moments like that, is not merely a machine, it becomes a witness. I knew that decades later, people would look at those images to understand how unity was born. That sense of duty to history has never left me.
YOUR WORK SPANS MORE THAN 50 YEARS OF BAHRAIN’S HISTORY. WHICH MOMENTS OR CHANGES HAVE BEEN THE MOST SIGNIFICANT OR SURPRISING TO CAPTURE?
Bahrain has transformed more in my lifetime than many countries do in a century. I’ve seen the island move from simplicity to sophistication, from a quiet pearl-diving society to a modern, confident nation. The most surprising thing, though, is how the spirit of Bahrain has stayed the same. Whether I was photographing a fisherman mending his net in the 1950s or a skyscraper rising over Manama decades later, there’s always been a sense of resilience and warmth in the people. That continuity, that heart, is what I’ve tried to capture more than anything else.

OF ALL THE DOCUMENTARIES AND FILMS YOU DIRECTED, WHICH PROJECT CHALLENGED YOU THE MOST AND WHY?
Without question, Hamad and the Pirates was the most challenging, and the most defining, experience of my career. Working on a Disney production in the Gulf in those years was something no one could have imagined. It was uncharted territory, not just for me, but for the entire region. The scale of the production, the technology, the discipline of the crew, it demanded precision I had never been exposed to before. Every frame, every light, every movement was meticulously planned. But beyond the technical challenges, there was a cultural one. I felt a deep responsibility to ensure that our people and our landscape were portrayed authentically, not as a backdrop, but as the heart of the story. I became, in a sense, a bridge between two worlds, helping an international team understand our traditions, our faces, our sea. It was exhausting, exhilarating, and at times overwhelming, but when I saw the finished film, I knew it had been worth it. Hamad and the Pirates showed that a Bahraini story could travel beyond our shores, and it proved that the Gulf could stand shoulder to shoulder with global cinema. That realization changed everything, for me and, I believe, for what came after.
LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PHOTOGRAPHIC WORK, IS THERE A PARTICULAR IMAGE OR SERIES THAT YOU FEEL HAD THE GREATEST IMPACT, EITHER CULTURALLY OR PERSONALLY, AND WHY?
There’s one image that stays with me, a group of pearl divers returning to shore, their faces lined with exhaustion but lit with pride. It was taken in the early 1960s, when the old Bahrain was giving way to the new. That photograph captured a way of life that would soon vanish. It became more than just an image, it became a memory for the nation. People still come up to me and say, “That was my uncle,” or “That was my village.” Moments like that remind me why I do what I do, because photography gives people back their stories.

THE KHALIFA SHAHEEN ARCHIVE CONTAINS APPROXIMATELY 250,000 IMAGES SPANNING MORE THAN 55 YEARS. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE CREATION OF THIS ARCHIVE, WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU, AND HOW YOU HOPE IT WILL BE USED BY FUTURE GENERATIONS?
The archive began without me realizing it. Every roll of film I shot, whether a royal ceremony, a fisherman’s dawn, or a child running through Muharraq’s narrow alleys, I kept everything. Over the decades, the collection grew until I realized I had captured the life of a nation. The Khalifa Shaheen Archive is not just mine, it belongs to Bahrain. It tells our collective story, our celebrations, our struggles, our transformations. Each frame holds a heartbeat of a moment that might otherwise have been forgotten. My hope is that future generations will use it to understand where we came from, that historians, artists, and young Bahrainis will look into those images and feel pride in their heritage. Film and photography can preserve memory long after we are gone, that, to me, is the greatest legacy one can leave.

“ My inspirations often arrive through my faith, Sufism, dreams, or nature. ”
Light of Sakina Founder, CEO and Creative Director, Naila Rahim shares how Light of Sakina weaves intention, spirituality and craftsmanship into modern luxury, ensuring purpose is lived throughout the brand rather than treated as CSR.

At Light of Sakina, every creation begins with a story, a spiritual connection, a feeling, a moment of light. We do not start with a product; we start with intention. My inspirations often arrive through my faith, Sufism, dreams, or nature. Once the story comes, we translate it into a sensory universe through scent, poetry, design, texture, color, and ritual. I work very closely with perfumers to ensure the emotional dimension of the story is felt in the composition itself. The fragrance must feel like the narrative; it must carry the energy behind it. Luxury, for me, is in the details; every wick, vessel, ribbon, word, and raw material has a purpose. CSR is one of our pillars, but our foundation is stillness, love, and the desire to uplift. Empowering women and children is woven into our structure, not a separate initiative. Everything we create is meant to bring “sakina”, inner peace because luxury should nourish the soul, not just the senses.
HOW DO YOUR INGREDIENTS, SCENT COMPOSITIONS, AND RITUALS HELP CREATE INNER CONNECTION FOR YOUR CLIENTS?
I truly believe scent is a portal to the soul. Metaphysically, fragrance can shift your aura, your mood, and your internal light. There is both energetic and scientific truth behind this. Yes, scent interacts with the limbic system, the emotional center, but beyond that, it interacts with the soul itself. Personally, I wear different attars in the morning, afternoon, and evening. I light different candles and burn different bakhoors throughout the day. It’s important to understand which scent belongs to which moment, because fragrance can transform the way you feel, think, behave, and even the energy of a room. Some
scents uplift, others ground you; some soften your heart, others expand it. This is where our rituals become powerful for our clients. Lighting bakhoor, applying attar, choosing a candle – these are rituals of stillness. They invite you to pause, breathe, realign, and reconnect. In a world that moves so quickly, these simple rituals become acts of returning to yourself. We often rely on the mind to solve everything, but the mind is limited. The soul is the most powerful force within us.
HOW HAVE YOUR ENERGY-SECTOR BOARD EXPERIENCES SHAPED THE WAY YOU BUILD LIGHT OF SAKINA?
When I founded Light of Sakina, I built it entirely from heart. The first years were pure intuition, creativity, and a deep spiritual calling to bring something meaningful into the world. There was no complex structure in the beginning. Just a story, a purpose, and a desire to create fragrance as a form of inner light. As the brand grew, I realized that heart alone is not enough to scale globally. Now we are entering a new chapter. One where structure, systems, and organizational clarity sit alongside creativity and soul. We are refining our internal processes, strengthening our team with people from structured environments, and building a solid operational foundation to support our expansion into retail, partnerships, and new markets. My previous career played a major role in shaping this evolution. Before Light of Sakina, I worked in the energy sector as a board member and also as a trader and trade finance manager. That world taught me governance, discipline, risk management, relationship-building, negotiation, and how to scale with strategy, not just emotion. It also taught me how to build partnerships, how to think long-term, and how to expand through strong retail and commercial channels.

LIGHT OF SAKINA BEGAN BY EMPOWERING WIDOWS. HOW DO YOU ENSURE THIS MISSION SCALES GLOBALLY?
Our mission began in Najaf, training widows in candle-making, and that purpose remains at the very core of our brand. As we grow, we continue to honor that intention through ethical sourcing, fair wages, and full transparency across our supply chain. But my long-term vision goes far beyond Najaf. I imagine Light of Sakina stores in different countries, run by local women who then empower other women in their communities, a chain of light spreading across the world. We are not scaling a business; we are scaling an ecosystem of empowerment. This commitment also lives deeply inside the company itself. Light of Sakina is built by women. I employ many women across the organization, and I actively grow them, mentor them, and empower them.
The challenge is not in creating sustainable systems. We can always innovate there. The real challenge is cultural, especially in the GCC, where luxury is still strongly associated with large boxes, layered packaging, and visual abundance. In Europe, a luxury item presented in a refined tote bag feels perfectly acceptable; here, that shift has not yet happened. It’s a gradual mindset change that we are gently guiding our customers toward. For me, true luxury is expressed through conscious choices: the materials we select, the partners we work with, and the values we uphold every day. At Light of Sakina, we take sustainability step by step, without compromising the soul of the brand. All our candles are made with soy wax and eco-cotton wicks, and we prioritize natural, earth-derived ingredients. Our attars use raw materials that are pure and minimally altered, and our bakhoor is crafted from resin, wood, and agarwood, all elements of the natural world. We also make sure the paper we use is ethically sourced, choosing FSC-certified materials to honor responsible forestry. And we

are planning to introduce elegantly designed tote bags next year to slowly encourage more conscious gifting habits. Importantly, we partner with perfumers and fragrance houses that have their own sustainability ecosystems, from responsible harvesting of raw materials to protecting the environments and communities that grow them. This allows us to create an end-to-end ecosystem of sustainability, not just in the final product but across the entire supply chain.
HOW DO YOUR DUBAI MALL BOUTIQUE AND ATELIER DELIVER EXPERIENTIAL LUXURY AND ENGAGE THE NEXT GENERATION?
Our Dubai Mall boutique is truly a Sanctuary of Light, a place designed to slow you down in the middle of a fast world. The arches, shadows, textures, scent stations, poetry, and rituals create an atmosphere of serenity. It feels like an oasis in the heart of the mall, where you step out of the noise and into a world of stillness and beauty. The space is intentionally curated this way. Even the team I choose for the boutique are spiritually aligned; they understand the emotional and sacred depth of perfumery. Their energy contributes to the atmosphere as much as the architecture does. We have also been blessed with an incredible partnership with Dubai Mall and Emaar, who have retained us year after year because they recognize that Light of Sakina offers something unlike anything else in the mall. Over time, we’ve built a loyal, beautiful clientele. What amazes me is the diversity of the people who walk into our store, from Alabama to Tennessee, from Bulgaria to Poland, from the UK to every corner of the world. When I am in the boutique, I am always touched by how people from such different backgrounds connect deeply with our scents. We receive repeat orders internationally and locally. Many of our visitors are people of faith who come in seeking something meaningful, something spiritual, something that resonates with their soul.

A distinguished artist and educator based in Barcelona, Spain, Haitz de Diego has taken the art world by storm with his beautiful paintings, which often take the beauty of horses as their subject matter, focusing on the intricate bond between human beings and these magnificent creatures. His passion for art is matched only by his dedication to inspiring the next generation of artists through his role as a university professor. Through a mix of traditional and contemporary techniques, Haitz has transformed his love for artistry into a thriving career, continually pushing the boundaries of his creativity. Recently, he participated in Mareee 25 in the Kingdom of Bahrain, a significant event that showcases the convergence of art and culture, providing a platform for artists from around the globe. In this interview, we delve into his early inspirations, his artistic philosophies, and the unique experiences that have shaped his journey.
CAN YOU SHARE WITH US THE MOMENT YOU REALIZED YOU WANTED TO PURSUE ART AS A CAREER?
I have always felt that art was the language through which I understood the world. Even as a child, the simple act of holding a pencil opened a doorway into imagination and expression that felt instinctive and natural. As I grew older, that impulse deepened into a conviction. I worked tirelessly, learning to balance ambition with humility, and I followed this path with a grounded sense of purpose, fully aware that choosing art meant choosing a lifelong commitment rather than a passing interest.
WHAT ROLE DID YOUR UPBRINGING IN BARCELONA PLAY IN SHAPING YOUR ARTISTIC VISION AND PASSION FOR HORSES?
Although I live in Barcelona now, my roots are in the Basque Country, a place where animals and nature coexist with quiet dignity. Growing
up in that environment taught me to observe the subtleties of movement, atmosphere, and instinct. Later, in Barcelona, my partner opened the door to the equine world, and I found in horses a subject that resonated deeply with my memories, emotions, and artistic identity. The city gave me structure and culture. The Basque Country gave me feeling and intuition. Together, they shaped the direction my art would eventually take.
HOW DO YOU INCORPORATE YOUR LOVE FOR HORSES INTO YOUR ARTWORK? CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC PROCESS WHEN DEPICTING THESE BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS?
Painting horses is an intimate ritual for me. Because I live with them and care for them, I understand their personalities, their moods, their vulnerabilities. Before I begin a painting, I spend time with them in silence, watching the way they breathe, the cadence of their steps, the softness in
their eyes. I try to absorb their energy, and when I finally face the canvas, I paint from that emotional memory rather than a literal observation. This helps me translate something far more profound than anatomy. It allows me to communicate their soul.
COULD YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY IN THE ART WORLD? WHAT CHALLENGES DID YOU FACE AS YOU BEGAN YOUR CAREER?
My journey has been a mix of passion and persistence. Nothing came easily. I faced the uncertainty that every emerging artist experiences, the constant need to prove myself, and the discipline required to keep practicing even when no one is watching. But I believed in the seeds I planted. Over time, they grew into opportunities: international painting awards, invitations to exhibitions, workshops around the world, and interviews like this one. Each step has reminded me that dedication has its own quiet reward.

AS A PROFESSOR OF ART, HOW DO YOU APPROACH TEACHING YOUR STUDENTS? WHAT KEY LESSONS DO YOU EMPHASIZE IN THEIR ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT?
For me, teaching is an exchange. I always tell my students that while they will learn many techniques from me, I hope to learn just as much from them. I try to cultivate an atmosphere where creativity feels natural and experimentation feels safe. I encourage patience, perseverance, and joy, because those qualities shape an artist as much as skill does. And when former students return years later to share their progress, it is one of the greatest affirmations of my work as an educator.
IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT QUALITY YOU NEED TO HAVE AS AN ARTIST?
Observation is essential. Creativity grows from the ability to see the world with curiosity, to notice small gestures or fleeting expressions that others overlook. If you combine that with a willingness to work hard, challenge yourself, and trust your instincts, you begin to form an artistic identity that feels authentic. When talent and effort meet, the result can be something truly special.
AS SOMEONE WHO HAS DEDICATED COUNTLESS HOURS TO OBSERVING AND UNDERSTANDING THE GRACE OF HORSES, HOW DO YOU TRANSLATE THEIR SPIRIT, MOVEMENT, AND EMOTIONAL DEPTH ONTO THE CANVAS IN A WAY THAT INVITES VIEWERS TO FEEL AN INTIMATE CONNECTION WITH YOUR SUBJECTS?
It comes from a blend of sensitivity and intuition. I observe, I feel, and then I interpret. Horses communicate through subtle language. Their spirits are strong yet gentle, and my goal is always to translate that duality. I paint from the heart, allowing emotion to guide my technique, so that viewers can feel the same warmth and vitality that I experience in their presence.
YOUR WORK BRIDGES TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES WITH CONTEMPORARY EXPRESSION. HOW DO YOU NAVIGATE THIS BALANCE, AND IN WHAT WAYS DO THESE TWO ARTISTIC WORLDS INFORM AND ENRICH ONE ANOTHER IN YOUR CREATIVE PRACTICE?
My foundation lies in drawing and illustration, where discipline and precision are essential. Over the years, I experimented with various mediums until acrylic paired with a palette knife felt like a natural extension of my hand. This technique allows for expressive textures and modern dynamism while still respecting classical structure. The interplay between tradition and innovation creates a harmony that feels true to my artistic evolution.

“ I encourage patience, perseverance, and joy, because those qualities shape an artist as much as skill does. ”

MAREEE 25 BROUGHT TOGETHER DIVERSE VOICES FROM AROUND THE WORLD. HOW DID THIS EXPERIENCE INFLUENCE YOUR PERSPECTIVES ON CULTURAL EXCHANGE THROUGH ART, AND WHAT DID YOU TAKE AWAY FROM SHOWCASING YOUR WORK IN BAHRAIN’S VIBRANT CREATIVE LANDSCAPE?
Mareee 25 was a reminder that art is a universal meeting point. The diversity of perspectives encouraged me to think more openly about how cultural heritage, personal stories, and shared values can merge through creative expression. Bahrain offered a landscape full of energy and warmth, and I felt that the exchange between artists could grow into something meaningful over time. Experiences like this broaden our artistic horizons.
MANY OF YOUR PAINTINGS EVOKE A SENSE OF STORYTELLING, ALMOST AS IF EACH BRUSHSTROKE CARRIES ITS OWN QUIET NARRATIVE. HOW CONSCIOUSLY DO YOU WEAVE EMOTION, MEMORY, OR SYMBOLISM INTO YOUR COMPOSITIONS, AND WHAT DO YOU HOPE YOUR AUDIENCE DISCOVERS WITHIN THESE LAYERS?
Each texture and stroke contains intention. Sometimes the narrative is personal, drawn from a memory or a feeling I want to preserve. Other times, it emerges naturally as the painting unfolds. I want viewers to move closer, to study the details, and to sense the emotions layered beneath the surface. My hope is that each person discovers something different, something that resonates with their own experiences.
WITH YOUR DUAL ROLE AS AN ARTIST AND EDUCATOR, HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN YOUR OWN CREATIVE MOMENTUM WHILE NURTURING THE ARTISTIC GROWTH OF YOUR STUDENTS? DO THE IDEAS AND ENERGY YOU ENCOUNTER IN THE CLASSROOM SHAPE YOUR PERSONAL WORK IN UNEXPECTED WAYS?
Creativity is a continuous cycle. Teaching energizes me because it requires problem solving, empathy, and imagination. The questions my students ask, the challenges they face, and the breakthroughs they experience all feed my own artistic curiosity. Their enthusiasm keeps my mind active, and that inevitably influences my work. In both roles, I am always learning, always creating, always exploring.

An illuminated display introducing Farid al-Din Attar’s mystical narrative and setting the thematic foundation for the exhibition’s poetic journey

“Poetry of Birds” in Dubai, offering a unique perspective centering on the dialogue between 19th and 20th-century Western jewelry and Islamic arts with poetry as the connecting thread.

In the Middle Eastern culture, birds play a key role and are among the main sources of inspiration in poetry and arts. Organized by L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts in Dubai and held in strategic partnership with Dubai Design District (d3), the exhibition “Poetry of Birds” displays over one hundred and fifty exceptional creations from over twenty lenders, demonstrating the cross-cultural celebration and the universal symbolism of birds in jewelry, literature, and the arts.
Running until April 25th, 2026, the exhibition showcases an immersive presentation, enabling the discovery of the fascinating world of birds around history, design, craftsmanship, gems and the arts, with a focus on local relevance in Middle East culture. It demonstrates an interchange between birds and various means of expressions depicted through jewels, drawings, antiquities and artifacts; illustrating these universal symbols of beauty, transformation, and transcendence, and how birds have inspired creativity and heritage across centuries.
Freely inspired by Farid al-Din Attar’s The Conference of the Birds (circa 1117), this exhibition is conceived as a poetic experience that culminates in contemplation of an aviary of imaginary birds by French jeweler Pierre Sterlé (1905-1978).
Exceptional jewelry alongside precious objects and gouache drawings from the most renowned jewelers such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, Buccellati, Falize, Fabergé, Boivin, Marchak, JAR
and more, are presented along with a selection of Middle Eastern works of art – notably on loan from the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilizations, Dubai Museums and private collectors such as Emirati Film Director Abdullah Al Kaabi – including carpets, ceramics, metalware and calligraphy.
A selection of contemporary photographs from Emirati photographer Faisal Alrais, allowing visitors to appreciate the beauty and depth of meanings in birds’ representations in the Middle East and around the world.
The exhibition’s scenography immerses visitors in a sensory experience deconstructing the essence of colors as a bird takes flight, from brown to green and blue. The exhibition opens with a poem by the poet and author Mahmoud Darwish (19412008), highlighting the spiritual dimension of birds, and unfolds in four sequences. It starts with a conversation of birds, allusion to The Conference of Birds written around 1117 by the Persian mystic poet Farid al-Din Attar (1145-1190/1229), telling the spiritual journey of the birds to Simorgh, the mythical bird, through bird jewels and Middle Eastern works of art. In the second part, jewels are classified by bird species and categories (migrating species, gallinaceous, peacock, birds of paradise, parrots & parrakeets, owls, falcons and birds of prey), focusing on their signification and symbolism. The third part is dedicated to feathers as symbols of spirituality and representations of power. The final part showcases an aviary of imaginary birds brooches by Pierre Sterlé

(1905-1978), to conclude this poetic and symbolic journey into the heart of beauty.
Throughout its six-month duration, a cultural program designed around the exhibition will encourage dialogue and discovery for all audiences. This includes talks, guided tours, and themed workshops exploring the exhibition’s multidisciplinary approach, from the literary elegance of Arabic verse to the intricate craftsmanship of gems and jewelry.
In addition to the exhibition, L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts offers a rich program of jewelry courses, offering a deeper understanding of the jewelry arts across three pillars: the history of jewelry, the world of gemstones and the savoirfaire of jewelry-making techniques. These courses are open to all, from beginners to enthusiasts and support L’ÉCOLE’s mission to share the art of jewelry with a wider audience.
L’ÉCOLE Middle East is proud to continue its partnership with Dubai Cares, a UAE-based global philanthropic organization. All proceeds from the public courses and talks are donated to support its youth education programs, underscoring the school’s commitment to social responsibility and youth empowerment.
“Poetry of Birds” is now open to the public and will run until April 25th, 2026. Admission is free and visitors are encouraged to register in advance through L’ÉCOLE’s website.

Tiffany & Co. unveils a new jewelry collection, Bird on a Rock by Tiffany, reimagining
Jean Schlumberger’s iconic Bird on a Rock motif through the visionary lens of Nathalie Verdeille, Chief Artistic Officer of Jewelry and High Jewelry.
The collection includes new high jewelry suites and marks the debut of designs in the fine jewelry category, all of which celebrate the soaring optimism and boundless potential of love. At the heart of the Bird on a Rock collection is the wing motif: graceful, sculptural and symbolic. Inspired by the layered beauty and delicate tension of a bird’s plumage, the designs take flight in radiant diamonds and precious metals.
The collection includes two exceptional high jewelry suites. One is centered around tanzanites, an iconic Tiffany & Co. “legacy gemstone” that the House introduced in 1968, while the other celebrates turquoise, a gemstone deeply embedded in Tiffany & Co.’s design heritage. The use of turquoise is also a nod to Jean Schlumberger, who featured the gemstone in high jewelry, juxtaposing it in surprising ways, such as with diamonds. The tanzanite suite features a striking necklace, bracelet and earrings. The turquoise suite is anchored by a statement necklace featuring a diamond bird that appears to grasp strands of cabochon turquoise, accented with gold and diamond feathers throughout. The piece culminates in a dramatic cabochon turquoise drop. The suite also includes a pendant, brooch and ring, each echoing the iconic bird in unexpected ways.
In the Bird on a Rock by Tiffany fine jewelry
collection, the sophistication and avant-garde artistry of the original Bird on a Rock brooch evolves into bold, textural creations. Each design celebrates nature’s individuality and asymmetry, two qualities that deeply inspired Jean Schlumberger. Figurative bird motifs, flying solo or in pairs, are rendered with the same craftsmanship as the high jewelry pieces. From intricate texturing to various diamond-setting techniques, Tiffany & Co.’s craftsmanship signatures are evident throughout the collection.
The fine jewelry collection’s more abstract interpretations, Bird on a Rock by Tiffany Wings, showcase diamonds with hidden settings, as if suspended midair. When stacked, the scalloped edges of one piece perfectly nestle with the feathershaped silhouette of the other. One key style, a pair of convertible earrings, offers four different looks, from striking drop earrings to delicate studs.
As with all Tiffany & Co. collections, love remains at the heart of Bird on a Rock. Each unique piece serves as an inspiration for those embarking on their journey, whether solo or together, a beautiful reminder that the sky is the limit for those who dare to soar. Breaking free from limitations, the Bird on a Rock collection is designed for dreamers. tiffany.com
Iconic London jeweller David Morris continues on the principle of creating unique and imaginative pieces to exacting standards with the new Asiyah Collection, inspired by the spectacular jewels of Ancient Egypt.
An extraordinary exhibition of the treasures discovered in Tutankhamun’s tomb has inspired the House of David Morris to create a colorful new collection for the modern-day jewellery collector. ‘Tutankhamun: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh’, held at London’s Saatchi Gallery in 2019, brought together over 150 pieces from the boy king’s tomb for the first time, in one final touring exhibition, before they returned to Egypt forever. CEO and Creative Director of David Morris, art enthusiast and collector, Jeremy Morris, visited the exhibition and emerged inspired by the collection’s incredible use of color and exquisite craftsmanship, centuries ahead of its time. Tutankhamun’s tomb was discovered in 1922, over 3,000 years after it had been sealed at the bottom of the Valley of the Kings. Thousands of priceless objects were unearthed, many of which were jewellery not worn by the Boy King, but placed inside his sarcophagus ceremonially to smooth his passage to the afterlife.
Today, enthused by this captivating collection, the House has unveiled its homage to the vision and craft of the art of Ancient Egyptian jewellery. The collection is named Asiyah, after the Great Royal Wife of ancient Egypt’s Pharaoh of the Exodus, a woman long revered for her courage, kindness and strength of spirit, and whose story continues to inspire women

of today. Many of the jewels offered to Tutankhamun were inlaid with semi-precious lapis lazuli, turquoise, carnelian and malachite, all vivid in color but chosen for their meaning, and this repetition of red, blue and green became a guiding concept for the Asiyah collection. In Ancient Egypt, the intense blue of lapis lazuli was symbolic of the night sky, while turquoise represented powerful protection – both important for a happy afterlife. Carnelian, though not rare, was prized for its fiery hue and closely connected to the sun god, Ra. The color green was also highly symbolic, representing new life, and Ancient Egyptians referred to the eternal paradise that they believed awaited them as the ‘Field of Malachite’.
The Asiyah collection comprises drop earrings, open rings and cuffs and a chocker-style necklace inspired by the vibrant hues of the objects within the exhibition collection, whilst employing another technique pioneered by the Ancient Egyptian craftsman – the making of colored glass and ceramic. Not yet aware of the existence of diamonds, rubies and sapphires, if the color they sought was not available naturally, the Ancient Egyptians often turned to making colored glass.
Drawing upon this tradition, the Asiyah collection fuses the brand’s signature rose cut white diamonds with finely cut discs of ceramic in vivid hues. Jeremy
Morris chose to use ceramic rather than natural stones, both as a nod to the Ancient Egyptian jewellery methods and for their brightness and depth of color.
The collection’s cuff and ring both have an open design inspired by early forms of jewellery. At the opening of each piece sits a circular motif featuring a central rose cut white diamond surrounded by pavé white diamonds – an abstract interpretation of the ever-present eye symbol seen throughout Ancient Egyptian iconography, and representative of the Eye of Horus. The drop earrings possess a beautifully light feel, their alternating bejewelled and brightly-colored ceramic discs joined together using delicate gold wire for fluidity of movement. While the necklace mirrors the shape of the cuff and ring, it embraces the flexibility and delicate feel of the earrings, being articulated between each rondell of diamonds and ceramic to ensure enduring comfort for the wearer.
Each of the four Asiyah designs is available in either 18-carat rose or white gold and in a single color option – light blue, dark blue, green and red ceramic, alternated with scintillating white diamonds – as well as pieces that combine two contrasting ceramic colors, characteristic of the pieces found alongside Tutankhamun.

Patek Philippe’s striking new additions to the Cubitus and Gondolo Serata lines unveil fresh medium sizes, refined aesthetics, and exceptional craftsmanship.
Following the unveiling in October 2024 of the new Cubitus collection, which stands out for its unique blend of boldness and elegance, Patek Philippe has continued the development of its latest collection launched in the last 27 years by offering the secondsdate model in a new medium-size version with a 40 mm diameter designed to suit both male and female wrists.
The Cubitus is offered in a new medium-sized (40 mm diameter) version designed to suit all wrists. The new geometry of the white gold case with its square shape, rounded edges and elegant profile is highlighted by the contrast between vertical satin and polished finishes. The dial with its horizontally embossed pattern features a subtle sunburst blue-gray hue. Self-winding 26-330 S C caliber is equipped with a stop-seconds function enabling time-setting to the exact second. The white gold bracelet features a lockable adjustment system and a patented Patek Philippe fold-over clasp secured by four independent catches.
Patek Philippe reinvents the “casual chic” style in a new rose gold medium-size version of the Cubitus (40 mm diameter compared to 45 mm for the first
three large-size models launched in 2024). This new medium size combined with an elegant profile (8.5 mm) suits both gentlemen and ladies. Distinguished by a two-part construction and a screw-down crown, the case is certified water resistant for all aquatic activities to a depth of 30 meters.
The new medium-size Reference 7128/1R-001 joins the first three large-size Cubitus models in the collection. It is also available in a new white gold version with sunburst blue-gray dial (Reference 7128/1G-001).
Patek Philippe has reinterpreted the Gondolo Serata model with a dial bearing an original zebra motif inspired by the Ref. 5738/50G-023 Golden Ellipse wristwatch. To recreate the visual interplay of the stripes with the zebra firmly in the foreground, the Manufacture has applied an innovative and refined technique involving a sapphire crystal dial engraved and black varnished on both sides. The zebra motif is then completed with black metallization and white varnish on the underside of the sapphire crystal dial, thus creating magnificent volume and depth effects. The time is displayed by two applied Breguet
numerals at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock swept over by rose gold leaf-shaped hands.
First launched in 2006, the Gondolo Serata stands out with its soft, Art Deco-inspired curves. Its distinctive design offers a contemporary take on the evening or “dress” watch that can be worn with style during the day. It made its grand debut in diamondset white gold versions framing guilloché mother-ofpearl dials (References 4972G-001 and 4972/1G-001), which were produced until 2021.
The rose gold case (28.6 x 40.85 mm) is set with 94 brilliant-cut spessartite gemstones (2.02 ct) arranged in a double color gradient covering a spectrum from cognac shades at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock to tangerine tones at 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock. This dark-light-dark effect and the variations in the size of the gemstones emphasize the daintily “waisted” and cambered profile of the watch, ensuring a perfectly smooth fit on the wrist. A second row of spessartite gemstones on the lower part of the case accentuates its asymmetrical curves.

Vacheron
Constantin celebrates its 270th anniversary and its quest for excellence
with a new series of Les Cabinotiers watches entitled ‘La Quête’, which pays tribute to astronomy and the odysseys of ancient times.
Representing significant technical and aesthetic challenges, these watches highlight Vacheron Constantin’s expertise in creating grand complication watches enhanced by the decorative crafts. The Homage to Epic Warriors Minute Repeater watches celebrate great heroes of history and mythology, Alexander the Great, Antar (Antarah ibn Shaddad), Genghis Khan and Sasaki Moritsuna, while showcasing the craftsmanship cultivated since the Maison’s very beginning.
On each of the 18K 2N yellow gold dials, the hero of the piece is miniature painted in grand feu enamel against a background representing the landscape in which he performed his great deeds, hand-engraved with matt and shiny finishes. Amplifying the beauty of the decorative crafts, the hand-engraved 41mm cases are fitted with the ultra-thin manufacture minute repeater movement, Calibre 1731, the chimes of which signify the victories won by the warrior depicted on the dial.
Throughout its 270-year history Vacheron Constantin has defined itself by its quest for excellence – a journey of exploration, discovery and achievement marked by many challenges and milestones, with one idea in mind: always to challenge and go beyond what it knows to be possible. The Les Cabinotiers Homage to Epic Warriors Minute Repeater series echoes this quest, inspired by the belief that the path to fulfilment is to be found through human adventure and exceptional achievements. The four watches pay tribute to four
great warriors – to their courage, perseverance and ingenuity in the face of great challenges and to the noble legacies that they left behind.
Vacheron Constantin’s rich heritage of striking watches is anchored by its first minute repeater pocket watch in 1806 and first repeater wristwatch in 1935. Building on this legacy, Calibre 1731 was the outcome of a four-year quest to solve the complex equation between a pure sound and aesthetic beauty, and a slender movement without compromising reliability and robustness. Named for the birth year of the Maison’s founder Jean-Marc Vacheron and introduced in the Patrimony collection in 2013, Calibre 1731 is just 3.9 mm thick, yet provides a power reserve of 65 hours from a single, manually wound barrel.
The tempo of the chimes is achieved by a flying strike governor that controls the rate at which the hammers strike the gongs. This regulating system is completely silent as a result of its using opposing centrifugal and centripetal forces. To amplify the sound while ensuring that it remains clear and pure, the gong is attached directly to the case. The beauty of the movement’s architecture is visible through the transparent caseback, which reveals most of the gear train as well as the hammers, gong and strike governor. Its open and airy look is enhanced by meticulous component finishes that combine to create an eye-catching play of light. Circular graining (perlage) on the mainplate is complemented by Côtes
de Genève and hand-bevelling on the bridges, and hand-chamfered jewel sinks. Vacheron Constantin’s attention to detail extends to movement components that are no longer visible once the calibre has been assembled. One example in Calibre 1731 is the Maltese cross shape of a component of the strike governor - the Maison’s emblem.
The four Homage to Epic Warriors Minute Repeater watches bring together the savoir-faire of a master enameller and master engraver. The case is engraved with an intricate pattern that reflects the subject of the dial using the taille-douce line engraving technique. The attention to detail on the engraving is such that the minute repeater activation slide is also engraved. Created from thousands of fine incisions in the metal, each only 1/10 to 2/10 millimetre thick, these visually rich patterns require approximately 160 hours of work for a single case and its matching buckle.
Made of 18K 2N yellow gold, the dials showcase the crafts of hand-engraving and grand feu miniature enameling. The dial background creates a subtle texture of matt and shiny surfaces that play with the effects of light to reveal features of the landscape where the warrior achieved one of his victories. This delicate and precise work requires 20 hours to complete the background of a single dial.

01 Turkish painter Emil Aziz

Selections from Emil Aziz’s outstanding Karabakh Horse and Carpet series
Emil Aziz is an emerging Turkish painter whose work captures moments of life through color, light, and atmosphere. Drawn to the quiet power of observation from an early age, he approaches painting as a space for freedom, emotion, and unspoken reflection. His practice blends classical techniques with a contemporary sensibility, resulting in compositions that feel both timeless and immediate. Having exhibited internationally, including in Azerbaijan and France, Aziz continues to refine a visual language that invites viewers into immersive scenes shaped by feeling rather than narrative, where mood and presence take precedence over explanation with subtle elegance and restraint throughout.
CAN YOU SHARE WITH US THE JOURNEY THAT LED YOU TO BECOME AN ARTIST? WHAT WERE SOME KEY MOMENTS OR EXPERIENCES IN YOUR LIFE THAT SIGNIFICANTLY SHAPED YOUR ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT?
I was actually born into a family of painters. My father is a well-known artist in Azerbaijani culture and the art world. From a young age, I was surrounded by canvases, painting books, paints, and incredibly talented artists. Alongside this, I had my own understanding and passion for painting. I could feel the works of art and get lost in the worlds they created. I started painting with oil paints when I was 10 years old, and by the time I was 13-14, I was attending exhibitions with my father, and I was sure that I could now pursue this art and creativity. My works gained their own character after my marriage. My wife, Emiliya, has been and continues to be my greatest inspiration. Her interpretations of my works and the new perspectives she offers have dramatically and positively changed the color and direction of my art. In addition, my travels to Europe, the works I saw live for the first time in art museums, and the new artists I met, broadened my source of inspiration.
YOUR ART OFTEN REFLECTS A DEEP CONNECTION WITH HORSES. HOW DID YOUR PASSION FOR THESE ANIMALS BEGIN, AND IN WHAT WAYS DO THEY INSPIRE YOUR WORK? CAN YOU DESCRIBE THE EMOTIONAL AND SYMBOLIC SIGNIFICANCE OF HORSES IN YOUR CREATIONS?
As I mentioned above, when I first participated in art exhibitions with my father at the age of 14, I was producing works on every subject, but my series of horse portraits was particularly well-received. Horse portraits were always among the first pieces to sell. Since then, my love and affection for these magnificent creatures and their species have grown stronger. In some of my works, I began using bronze horse heads as symbols of power. Horses have historically been symbols of power and wealth. The horse series you see in the Maraee exhibition is dedicated to the First Karabakh War. The story in the works is quite dramatic. The red color in the background represents blood. The Karabakh carpets you see on the horses represent people fleeing the war, quickly abandoning their homes, loading their horses and whatever else they could find onto the backs of their horses. The sadness in the eyes of the horses in the works is a reflection of this.

PARTICIPATING IN THE MARAEE EXHIBITION IN BAHRAIN MUST HAVE BEEN A SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE FOR YOU. COULD YOU ELABORATE ON HOW THIS OPPORTUNITY CAME ABOUT, WHAT YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS WERE, AND HOW THE EXHIBITION ALIGNS WITH YOUR ARTISTIC VISION?
My selection for this exhibition was entirely thanks to the esteemed Mr. Khalid Juman. Therefore, I would like to express my gratitude to him for providing me with this opportunity and experience. Today, the internet and various platforms bring the whole world together. The online recognition of my works has contributed to this. It was my first time traveling to an Arab country. Like the other foreign artists participating in the exhibition, it was a unique experience unlike anything we had ever had before. The message of my works was deeply felt by the citizens of Bahrain, and the universal unifying power of art resonated throughout the exhibition. There were no other works in the exhibition of the same style, concept, size, or series. Therefore, the viewers who attended the exhibition were captivated by the allure of the horses lined up against the red background, seeing them from afar. The atmosphere of the exhibition, created by its Eastern motifs, and the harmony of my works, pleased me greatly in terms of the consistency of my own artistic perspective. It also gave me a lot of inspiration about what kind of works I should exhibit in this region again in the future.
WHEN WE LOOK AT THE ARTISTIC LANDSCAPE OF THE MIDDLE EAST, HOW DO YOU VIEW THE CURRENT TRENDS AND MOVEMENTS? IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT MAKES THE ART SCENE IN THIS REGION UNIQUE OR DISTINCT COMPARED TO OTHER GLOBAL ART SCENES?
Frankly, the modern art movements sweeping the world sadden and anger me greatly. These movements kill the emotional and universal exchange of feelings in art. Conversely, in the Middle East, the romanticism and realism of the past are still preferred and loved. The resalistic movements preferred in large-scale paintings distinguish this region from the art of other countries. This reminds me of the realist movement that emerged in the early years of the Soviet Union. Thus, works that evoke the same emotion in everyone at the same time are preferred more, and I believe this is how it should be. It’s like watching a movie together on a cinema screen at the same time, experiencing the same feeling.
YOU HAVE WITNESSED THE EVOLUTION OF CONTEMPORARY ART IN ISTANBUL. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE RELATIONSHIP
BETWEEN THE CITY’S RICH CULTURAL HISTORY AND ITS MODERN ARTISTIC EXPRESSION? WHAT CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES DO YOU FORESEE FOR ARTISTS IN THIS VIBRANT CITY?
I believe the biggest deficiency in modern art in Istanbul is originality. Similarities in works should give way to more personal themes. Every corner of Istanbul offers millions of inspiring and creatively enriching places. You can even see this on an old alley wall. As I mentioned above, modern painting movements are quite evident in the artworks we see in Istanbul. Being a metropolitan and worldrenowned city increases the recognition and sales of works for painters. However, its sheer size also causes artists to get lost in this environment. The best opportunity to overcome this and stand out is to create original works by utilizing elements of Istanbul’s rich culture. The disadvantage of having many rival artists in Istanbul can only be overcome by producing original works. Otherwise, with repetitive work, you’ll become nothing more than one of Istanbul’s identical paving stones.
ART OFTEN SERVES AS A MEDIUM FOR SOCIAL COMMENTARY AND CHANGE. HOW DO YOU SEE YOUR WORK CONTRIBUTING TO DISCUSSIONS ABOUT CULTURAL IDENTITY, HERITAGE, OR CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN THE MIDDLE EAST? CAN YOU PROVIDE EXAMPLES WHERE YOUR ART HAS ENGAGED WITH THESE THEMES?
My works mostly depict female figures and subjects from all regions of the world. I later realized that the women’s hair in my works is almost invisible, covered by objects such as precious stones or flowers. As a Muslim, I realized that I instinctively reflected the dictates of my faith in my works without thinking. Therefore, my works convey the same messages naturally for this region as well. I always love universal messages and objects. For example, in a few of my works, I used a female figure on a camel surrounded by stones and goods to show wealth. The camel, as an object of wealth, offers an incomparable nobility and aesthetics compared to today’s modern objects of wealth. The wall motifs, carpets, precious stones, sofas and divans, and dresses of the Middle East have always adorned my works.
LOOKING AHEAD, WHAT ARE YOUR ASPIRATIONS FOR YOUR ARTISTIC PRACTICE IN THE COMING YEARS? ARE THERE PARTICULAR PROJECTS OR THEMES YOU’RE EXCITED TO EXPLORE FURTHER, ESPECIALLY IN RELATION TO THE INTERSECTION OF ART AND EQUESTRIAN CULTURE?
The Maraee 2025 Exhibition gave me a very important perspective. It showed me how powerful and unique a series of works can be when exhibited with the same message but different figures. This inspired me to explore new themes related to horses. For example, I previously had a work about horse racing with jockeys, which I titled “Ambition.” The work was set in frozen time to show the speed of the horses, and was adorned with vague horse and human figures. This actually showed that no matter how fast we go because of our ambition, we are invisible to people and get lost in the fast-paced life of our ambition. I aspire to create a series of exhibitions on this theme. I will also renew the name of the series as “Ambition.”
COLLABORATION AND COMMUNITY ARE VITAL ASPECTS OF THE ART WORLD. CAN YOU TALK ABOUT ANY SIGNIFICANT COLLABORATIONS YOU’VE HAD WITH OTHER ARTISTS OR ORGANIZATIONS? HOW DO THESE PARTNERSHIPS INFLUENCE YOUR WORK AND YOUR PERSPECTIVE ON ART?
Unfortunately, wars and environmental pollution are among the deadliest problems in today’s world. In the exhibition “War Through the Eyes of Children,” I organized an exhibition that showed the pain and horror of war through the raw and simple language of art. In addition, I participated in exhibitions on environmental protection and pollution reduction with my works. Art is the greatest tool for changing people in this regard. I have also collaborated to present beauty. Drawing inspiration from precious stones in my works, I have also held exhibitions with some jewelry and design companies. I also participated in a fashion exhibition where my oil paintings on mannequins reflected the richness of Azerbaijani culture. Each of these experiences has left a mark on me, and will manifest itself in my future works, and indeed it already has.
AS TECHNOLOGY AND GLOBALIZATION CONTINUE TO IMPACT THE ART WORLD, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE INTEGRATION OF DIGITAL MEDIUMS WITHIN TRADITIONAL ART PRACTICES? HOW DO YOU NAVIGATE THESE CHANGES IN YOUR OWN WORK?
Besides painting, I have also been teaching mathematics at Yeditepe University in Istanbul for 13 years. I discuss this topic with my students in my classes, and as I used to say, technology can do everything, but it cannot do art. As you know, technologies like artificial intelligence present collages of artwork created from things uploaded to the internet. Art has not yet been, and cannot be, programmed. It is impossible to create the software for this unique ability that God has bestowed upon
some people. Technology will never be able to create an art movement. It will only create images from created things in a very simple language, far from realistic and aesthetic. However, creative minds and artists can use these technologies to save time and create unique new works of art by transcending the limits of human physics. Unfortunately, we don’t see this in classical paintings, but we see the help of technology most often in sculptures and similar 3D objects. In my own work, however, I do not yet use such new technologies.
COULD YOU SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE OF ENGAGING WITH AUDIENCES DURING EXHIBITIONS? WHAT DO YOU HOPE VIEWERS TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR WORK, AND HOW DOES THEIR RESPONSE IMPACT YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?
In my exhibitions, there are differences between those who have seen my works online before and those who haven’t. Those who have only seen my works as photos have always shared with me that the works look much more vibrant and different in a positive way when they come to the exhibitions. This has proven to me in every exhibition the real impact that oil paint on canvas and art create. I also experience the same feelings when I see the works I saw in photos in my childhood live. As in the Maraee exhibition, those who saw my works for the first time live expressed their feelings about the vibrancy, harmony, and impact of the colors. Also, as I mentioned above, after I explained the meaning and story hidden behind the works, the viewers always shared their astonishment and increased love for the works with me. This has increased

my idea of writing a book about my works, telling their stories. I want to combine my storytelling with colors with literature. There was only one theme in this exhibition, but in my exhibitions, I exhibit many works that, despite their simple appearance, have hidden stories behind them.
REGIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL ART MARKETS ARE CONSTANTLY EVOLVING. HOW DO YOU SEE THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR MIDDLE EASTERN ARTISTS EXPANDING IN THE GLOBAL ARENA? WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO EMERGING ARTISTS ASPIRING TO MAKE THEIR MARK?
As I mentioned above, with the philosophy of “the more personal, the more original,” a Middle Eastern artist can conquer the hearts of the whole world with their works. Bahrain and the surrounding countries, with their unique geography and rich culture, should inspire local artists and take art lovers to emotions and environments they have never seen before. Consider that a magnificent movement like Orientalism began with European painters coming to the Middle East. Thanks to the colors they encountered, scenes like sunrises and sunsets they could never have imagined before, the vast landscapes of the desert, the harmony and aesthetics of vibrant and colorful clothing, and the architecture of the cities, many painters have written their names in gold letters in art history. I think now is the time to reintroduce this Orientalist movement to the world art market with local artists, using the language of modern art. I also receive positive feedback when I paint Orientalist works with Middle Eastern motifs. I believe that no

one can convey the beauty of this place better than the local painters here.
FINALLY, AS AN ARTIST WHO THRIVES IN THE RICH CONTEXT OF THE MIDDLE EAST, WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU WISH TO CONVEY TO FUTURE GENERATIONS OF ARTISTS IN ISTANBUL AND THE BROADER REGION REGARDING THEIR POTENTIAL AND THE IMPORTANCE OF CULTURAL EXPRESSION?
Artists absolutely need to be multidisciplinary. They need to know the history of their work well. Those who don’t know the past cannot build the future. Artificial intelligence can’t help with that either. First and foremost, we need to know ourselves well, and unfortunately, even though it’s difficult, we need to travel the world and see other works of art firsthand. This played a significant role in my own transformation. I’m saying this specifically about painting. Painting alone isn’t enough for today’s world. To produce different and impactful works, one needs to be interested in and learn from different fields such as literature, philosophy, music, cinema, or fashion. Future generations of artists must also remember that if you don’t have 50 works that distinguish you from other painters in terms of subject matter and style, it will be incredibly difficult to break into the global market. You absolutely need to present at least 50 works that reflect your own unique style. The strength you need for this is in the blood flowing through your veins, in your own culture. Carrying this forward comes from understanding and interpreting the world. emilazizart

Frank Gehry transformed the built world with a vision that felt at once sculptural, musical and defiantly contemporary. His passing invites a moment of reflection on a career that expanded not only the possibilities of architecture, but also the emotional expectations people bring to cities.

Much of Gehry’s reputation rests on his ability to see architecture not as a static arrangement of walls, but as a living art form capable of movement and expression. His work approached buildings as monumental sculptures, shaping them with curves, folds and sweeping planes that felt almost improvised. This instinct gave rise to a new architectural language, one that resisted predictability and embraced surprise. Even in his earliest experimental projects, Gehry revealed an instinct for pushing boundaries in pursuit of delight. The turning point in global recognition came with the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. Its titanium surfaces, rippling gently along the Nervión River, offered a sense of motion frozen in metal. The project did more than redefine a museum’s silhouette. It became a cultural phenomenon, inspiring what would later be described as the Bilbao effect, where a bold piece of architecture invigorates an entire region’s identity and economy. For Bilbao, Gehry’s creation became an instant landmark, drawing visitors from around the world and proving that architecture could reshape the fortunes of a city.
In Los Angeles, Walt Disney Concert Hall embodied the same sculptural spirit but translated it into a symphony of stainless steel, reflecting
sunlight in soft, shifting tones. The building’s exterior captured international attention, while its interior earned acclaim as one of the finest acoustic environments for orchestral performance. Gehry managed to create a space where music and architecture seemed to converse, elevating each other in a shared expression of artistry. It became a civic icon, symbolizing the creative heart of the city.
Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris marked another milestone in Gehry’s exploration of form. Set within the Bois de Boulogne, the structure rises like a fleet of glass vessels filled with air and light. The design combines structural ambition with an ethereal softness, embodying a sense of contemporary luxury while remaining firmly rooted in Gehry’s characteristic experimentation. The building is both a cultural destination and a piece of architecture that feels lifted from a dream, demonstrating how far Gehry could stretch the boundaries of material and imagination.
Alongside his major buildings, Gehry’s influence reached into the world of high-end design and craftsmanship. Collaborations with Tiffany and Co., Louis Vuitton and other luxury houses extended his aesthetic into smaller-scale works, allowing collectors to engage with his creative language in more intimate forms. Sculptural bracelets,

sinuous vessels and limited-edition objects became expressions of the same design philosophy seen in his buildings. These partnerships reaffirmed his status as a multidisciplinary creator, blurring the lines between architecture, art and luxury.
A defining part of Gehry’s legacy lies in his embrace of advanced technology. Long before digital modeling became common, he championed specialized software to translate freehand sketches into complex structures with remarkable precision. This commitment to innovation changed the architectural landscape, giving future designers the tools to imagine more freely. His willingness to explore technical frontiers reinforced his belief that imagination should be unrestricted by traditional constraints, and it helped bridge the gap between artistic vision and engineering possibility.
Beyond their physical impact, Gehry’s buildings shifted the cultural meaning of architecture. His projects were destinations in themselves, places where visitors paused to reflect, to wander and to marvel. They fostered a deeper engagement with the built environment, turning simple acts like walking into poetic experiences. Gehry gave cities a sense of character and emotional resonance, reminding the world that architecture has the power to inspire wonder in daily life.
His legacy continues through the cities transformed by his work, the generations of architects influenced by his defiant creativity and the countless people who have stood before one of his buildings and felt a sense of uplift. Frank Gehry leaves behind a portfolio that gleams across continents, from Los Angeles to Paris to Bilbao, each
project a reminder that boldness and imagination can redefine what is possible. His career stands as a testament to the idea that buildings can speak, that they can move, and that they can carry within them the same poetry found in music and art.
In honoring Gehry’s life, we celebrate a creator who reimagined the relationship between structure and emotion. His work continues to invite people to look more closely, to feel more deeply and to recognize beauty not only in harmony, but in daring. Through his buildings, the world gained a richer visual landscape and a renewed belief in the power of human imagination. Frank Gehry’s legacy endures in steel, glass and light, but also in the countless hearts he inspired.

Its narrow passages are filled with the scents of spices and frankincense, and the market’s mix of textiles, silver jewellery, and handmade crafts reveals a city that remains rooted in tradition. The warmth of vendors and the rhythm of bargaining add to the authenticity, making it a memorable stop for anyone wishing to engage with Muscat’s heritage.
Leaving the coast, the landscape transforms as the road climbs toward Jebel Akhdar. The temperature cools, the cliffs grow steeper, and the mountain reveals a world shaped by both nature and human ingenuity. Terraced farms built along the slopes support pomegranates, roses, and other crops that thrive in the high-altitude climate. The scenery is dramatic, marked by deep wadis and sweeping views that define the region’s reputation as one of Oman’s most striking natural settings.
In recent years, the mountain has become home to refined resorts that prioritize privacy, wellness, and panoramic views. DusitD2 Naseem Resort offers a calm retreat inspired by natural surroundings, while Indigo Hotel Jebel Akhdar brings a more design-focused atmosphere to the highlands. Both properties provide comfort without detracting from the rugged beauty around them. From private terraces and cliffside pools, guests can observe the valleys below in complete stillness.
The villages scattered across the slopes present a connection to the country’s agricultural traditions. Birkat Al Mouz is known for its date palms and

the ancient Falaj Al Khatmein, a UNESCO-listed irrigation channel that has supplied water for generations. Nearby, Bayt Ar Ridaydah reflects the fortified architecture that once defined rural leadership. Further along the mountains, small settlements such as Al Ayn, Al Aqur, and Al Sharyjah showcase stone homes built directly into the rock. In the quiet setting of Sowagra Village, the link between people and land becomes clear, shaped by respect for the terrain and an understanding of how to thrive within it.
Continuing inland, Nizwa emerges as one of Oman’s most historic cities. Dominated by its impressive 16th-century fort, the city offers a glimpse into centuries of political and cultural significance. Exploring the fort reveals stories of historic defenses, daily life, and the leadership that once guided the region. Nearby, the traditional Nizwa Souq remains a focal point for local trade. Its pottery, frankincense, Khanjars, and produce reflect a community that has preserved its craftsmanship while adapting to modern visitors.
Oman is a country where heritage, landscape, and hospitality come together with a sense of continuity. From Muscat’s cultural experiences to the high vistas of Jebel Akhdar and the legacy of Nizwa, the Sultanate offers a journey shaped by authenticity. It is a place that invites travellers to explore its beauty at a measured pace, leaving with a deeper appreciation for a nation that values both its past and its future.

Famed architect Lázaro Rosa-Violán brings to life a reimagined speakeasy inspired by the dual nature of the Roaring Twenties, combining a hidden cocktail and music lounge with a polished, sophisticated office space.
Perched atop the iconic ICD Brookfield Place in DIFC, with sweeping views across the Dubai skyline, 1920 was envisioned as a reimagined speakeasy. Channeling the split nature of the Roaring Twenties, an age of ambition and abandon, the objective was to create a dual-purpose space: part clandestine cocktail & music lounge, part sophisticated, design-led office.
This was a decade defined by contrast: rigid work ethics by day, after-dark decadence by night. It was also an era when secrecy reigned supreme, with hidden venues and whispered invitations. That duality, professional by daylight, provocative by moonlight, became the north star for the entire design language. Inspiration was drawn not just from the clean, modernist architecture of 1920s America, but also the sensual rhythm of Parisian nights, and the shadowy drama of classic cinema’s underground worlds. The result is a space that feels at once glamorous and intimate, theatrical yet composed.
Few designers understand the art of storytelling through space quite like Lázaro Rosa-Violán. Based in Barcelona, the acclaimed designer is one of Europe’s most prolific and recognizable names in the world of interiors, with over 600 projects across 200+ cities and 50+ countries. Known for his immersive, maximalist spaces that blur the lines between art, architecture, and narrative, his work is especially celebrated in hospitality, retail, and lifestyle.
Within the D.ream group’s portfolio, Lázaro has left his unmistakable mark on some of its most iconic venues. Most notably the Amazónico restaurants in Madrid, London, and Dubai, each one rich in texture, atmosphere, and identity. With 1920 Dubai, he was involved from the very first sketches through to the final styling phase, ensuring every detail aligned with
the original vision. His approach is deeply intuitive and hands-on. He not only leads design direction from the studio, but personally curates decorative elements from antique shops and flea markets around the world. Several of the most distinctive objects in 1920 were sourced during his time in Dubai, adding a quiet, local layer to the global story.
While no two of his projects are ever the same, what ties them together is a shared ethos: a pursuit of spatial experiences that surprise and seduce, that feel lived-in yet refined. In a city known for going loud, 1920 is deliberately subdued. It’s a space that doesn’t demand attention but rewards it. A true Lázaro hallmark.
At the heart of 1920 sits a towering mural, an artwork that commands attention without shouting. Though often misread as Italian, it draws its soul from the textured lobby murals of early skyscrapers: straight lines, warm tones, and a sense of upward movement. Made from handcrafted ceramic tiles sourced from Spain, it was assembled piece-by-piece on-site, merging matte and glossy finishes to reflect the ever-changing light of the city outside.
Beyond the main mural, a collection of antique decor and illuminated glass installations adds layers of intrigue. Each vintage piece has a story, curated and handpicked from antique dealers, including markets right here in Dubai.
To reflect the dual nature of the concept – a space that shifts from day to night, from work to revelry, the design team turned to materials that echo contrast and transformation. Varnished wood-paneled walls and reflective glass surfaces were chosen to evoke the sleek modernity of the 1920s, while velvet upholstery and heavier textiles were layered in to bring a sense of warmth, sensuality, and evening allure. The color
palette, led by rich reds and golden yellows with hints of blue, was drawn from the ambient glow of city lights after dark, creating an atmosphere that feels both contemporary and timeless, grounded in the spirit of a bygone era.
Customization runs through every corner of 1920. From bespoke carpets to plush curtains, nearly every detail was designed from scratch. The showpiece is a monumental, backlit glass display behind the bar, assembled from fragile, one-off pieces that glitter with effortless grandeur. But perhaps the bar’s greatest design asset is its view: floor-to-ceiling windows frame the glittering sprawl of Downtown Dubai. But rather than compete with the skyline, 1920 complements it, offering guests a space that feels both expansive and intimate, like stepping into a private club suspended in time.
The layout of 1920 is choreographed like a night out. Every curve, every fabric, every cocktail glass has been chosen to reflect a singular design ethos: elegance without excess, nostalgia without imitation, drama without noise. The journey begins in hushed privacy with cozy booths and semi-enclosed nooks, then crescendos as you move deeper into the space. Seating evolves along the way: low sofas for lounging, high stools near the DJ for dancing. By the time you reach the stage at the far end, the mood has shifted from intimate to electric.
At its heart, 1920 is a place where music and mixology converge. The back bar, a monolithic tower of brass and glass, is equal parts stage and altar. Bartenders perform like jazz musicians: intuitive, fluid, precise, mixing cocktails that balance classic technique with unexpected flourishes. 1920.ae

Lavazza is shining a spotlight on The Art of the Coffee Break, celebrating the Italian tradition of the pausa: a moment to pause, recharge, and be present. As the Middle East steps into one of its busiest seasons, Lavazza invites people to embrace this mindful ritual, using the simple act of enjoying a coffee as an anchor for connection and reflection.
In Italy, the pausa caffè is more than a coffee break. It is a cherished cultural ritual that has shaped daily life for generations. Whether taken alone at the counter of a neighborhood café or shared among friends in a sunlit piazza, the pausa embodies the Italian philosophy of living well: slowing down, savoring the moment, and finding joy in life’s small, beautiful details.
This timeless practice finds a meaningful parallel in the Middle East. In Saudi Arabia and across the region, the ritual of gathering over coffee, often accompanied by dates and conversation, is deeply ingrained in daily life and social tradition. From a special morning breakfast to a leisurely afternoon enjoying the company of loved ones, both cultures share a belief that coffee is not simply a drink, but a medium for hospitality, connection, and togetherness. By drawing on these shared values, Lavazza highlights coffee as a universal language of culture and connection, bridging Italy and the Middle East through one beloved ritual.
A highlight of Lavazza stores’ experience is
the exclusive introduction of 1895 specialty coffee collection: the finest coffees from around the world, from limited quantity microlot coffee to specialty blends carefully selected based on origin, process, and seasonality, ensuring an unparalleled coffee experience with every sip.
As lifestyles evolve, so too do our rituals. Coffee is no longer just a beverage; it has become an experience that reflects changing habits, creativity, and innovation. Lavazza, with its pioneering spirit, has continuously explored new boundaries of coffee culture through research, design, and gastronomy. By merging tradition with innovation, the brand transforms the simple pausa into an opportunity to discover new flavors, textures, and forms of expression.
This approach is brought to life through Lavazza Coffee Design store, a unique space where coffee becomes the medium for culinary artistry through the collaboration at the Riyadh store with personalities of the caliber of Italian Michelin-starred Chef Igor Macchia, La Credenza group, whose menu
is centered around elevated savory dishes designed to enhance every coffee moment. Here, coffee lovers can enjoy surprising creations that blur the lines between drink and cuisine, showcasing how innovation and creativity can reimagine one of the world’s most beloved rituals.
As the region moves into a season defined by packed calendars, new projects, social commitments, and celebrations, the need to find stillness becomes more vital than ever. The pausa is a reminder that a touch of indulgence doesn’t always require hours set aside; sometimes, it’s just five quiet minutes with a warm cup in hand, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee rising, and the gentle space to breathe.
Lavazza invites coffee lovers to embrace this ritual in the two Lavazza Coffee Design stores located in Laysen Valley and Solitaire Mall, Riyadh, where design, gastronomy, and coffee culture come together to create the perfect environment to savor a mindful pausa.

High above the Principality, our evening at Le Grill unfolded as a celebration of Riviera elegance at its most rarefied. Perched on the eighth floor of the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, this Michelin-starred institution offers an experience that begins long before the first dish arrives.
As we stepped into the dining room, the panorama immediately commanded attention. The Mediterranean stretched endlessly from the Monegasque skyline towards the Italian coast, a luminous backdrop that set the tone for an unforgettable night.
Le Grill is a place where atmosphere and emotion intertwine effortlessly. There is a sense of occasion in the air, a feeling that one is participating in a ritual long cherished by generations of discerning diners. For readers of Durrah, this is Riviera dining in its purest and most elevated form, where heritage and contemporary refinement coexist seamlessly.
At the heart of the experience lies an ode to the Mediterranean, expressed with clarity and confidence. Under the guidance of Executive Chef Dominique Lory of the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo and Chef Julien Lasseaux, the cuisine pays homage to the coast through pristine, seasonal ingredients and a mastery of the traditional skewer grill. The approach is honest and vibrant, allowing the natural character of each product to shine.
Our table became a journey through sunlit flavors and maritime freshness. King prawns from the Gulf of Genoa captured the sweet essence of the sea, while the free range herbed young chicken delivered depth and aromatic warmth rooted in regional tradition. The finale was nothing short of iconic. The Grand

Marnier soufflé arrived light and ethereal, its citrus notes lingering delicately and confirming its status as a signature that defines Le Grill itself.
This excellence is anchored in a philosophy of profound respect for ingredients. The chefs’ close relationships with regional producers, farmers and fishermen ensure that every element on the plate reflects shared values of authenticity, sustainability and passion. It is a commitment felt in the purity of flavor and the confidence of execution, offering quiet reassurance to those who understand that true luxury begins at the source.
Wine plays an equally vital role in the narrative. With access to the legendary cellar of the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, Head Sommelier Mathias Negro elevates pairing into an art form. His guidance is thoughtful and precise, matching robust grilled dishes and delicate seafood with selections that enhance rather than overshadow. Each recommendation felt personal, enriching the experience with another layer of refinement.
Architecturally, Le Grill is a triumph suspended between sky and sea. Clean lines and blue accents echo the Mediterranean, while the retractable roof transforms the space into an open air sanctuary on fine evenings. Dining beneath the stars, high above Monaco’s lights, is both cinematic and intimate, a moment where time seems to slow.

What The Food by Alserkal is a leading cultural platform exploring the future of food. It connects a community of chefs, thinkers, farmers, artists, and innovators through critical conversations, curated experiences, and collaborative learning, with an aim to interrogate the forces shaping tomorrow’s food systems.

Its curatorial lens moves across scales, from the intimate to the infrastructural, and brings together voices that challenge hierarchy, celebrate emerging practices, and experiment with new formats for thinking, making, and sharing. It embraces contradiction and complexity. It values critique as much as joy. It honors tradition without being bound by it. And above all, it treats food as a medium of cultural, environmental, and creative urgency. It is a festival for those who are not only working with food, but working through it.
Disrupting the Table positions What The Food 2025 as a space to rethink the systems, values, and assumptions that underpin how people eat, cook, and connect through food. This edition takes a clear stance: it is not here to preserve the status quo. It is here to ask harder questions about who holds knowledge, what defines innovation, and how food can respond to a rapidly shifting world. Food is no longer just about taste or trend. It is about systems, supply, storytelling, and survival.

We drove the All-New Lincoln Navigator through the streets of Dubai and what unfolded was a showcase of opulence, comfort and modern flair tailored perfectly to the city’s cosmopolitan rhythm. From its commanding presence on Sheikh Zayed Road to its plush cabin that felt like a mobile retreat, the All-New Navigator made every moment memorable.
On the outside, the All-New Navigator flaunts a bold, refreshed design that demands attention. The front is dominated by Lincoln’s signature grille, either a Satin Chrome Mesh with Satin Aluminum Open Jewel or, for those who opt for the Presidential trim, a full Satin Aluminum “Full Jewel” grille complete with a lit grille bar that catches Dubai’s night lights beautifully.
The SUV rolls on sizeable 22‑inch wheels: the Reserve trim uses Dark Tarnished Aluminum with a bright machined finish, while the Presidential models sport High‑Gloss Ebony wheels with a Bright Machined Finish, both contributing to a powerful stance on the road.
Perhaps one of its cleverest exterior touches is the class‑exclusive “Split Gate.” The upper three‑quarters of the rear rises like a traditional liftgate; the lower quarter folds down like a tailgate. This makes loading cargo easier and, on a night out or a beach escape, the lower gate doubles as an impromptu seat. As we cruised along Dubai’s skyline, from glittering towers to waterfront roads, the All New Navigator’s presence was unmistakable. It wasn’t quiet confidence; it was an invitation to admire.
Stepping inside the All New Navigator reveals a transformation: the cabin feels like a curated retreat, with premium materials and thoughtful technology blending for a refined experience.
The centerpiece is a massive 48‑inch panoramic display stretching across the dashboard’s entire width, paired with an 11.1‑inch center‑stack touchscreen. This digital architecture, part of the Lincoln Digital Experience, brings navigation, entertainment, and vehicle controls within easy
reach. Google apps and Services are integrated , –Maps, Play Store including YouTube, Netflix, games and many more, ready the moment the vehicle is shifted to Park – as well as Google Voice Assistant aiding with in vehicle commands, and delivering effortless hands free access to navigation, entertainment, and vehicle controls.
The All New Navigator isn’t just about screens. It introduces a multisensory comfort system called Lincoln Rejuvenate: when engaged, lighting, scent, massage seats, climate, sound and visuals combine to turn the cabin into a kind of mobile spa. Scents like “Mystic Forest,” “Ozonic Azure,” or “Violet Cashmere” emanate from the center armrest, a subtle, calming detail that adds a layer of privacy and serenity, especially useful after a long drive under Dubai’s sun.
Seating comfort is another strong suit. In the Reserve trim, the driver and front passenger get 24 way and 22 way “Perfect Position” seats with heating, ventilation and active motion massage; second row seats are a heated 40/20/40 PowerFold® bench with tilt and slide, upgradeable to dual captain’s chairs.
If you step up to the Presidential trim, the experience intensifies: “Opulence” leather seating surfaces, 30 way and 28 way adjustable front seats with power head restraints, and heated and ventilated massage enabled captain’s chairs in the second row. The third row is no afterthought either: it retains class‑exclusive PowerFold® 40/20/40 bench seats with power recline and heating, ensuring each occupant travels in comfort.

“ Whether gliding past gleaming towers or parked with its split gate down by the water, the All-New Navigator felt more than just a vehicle. ”

Beyond its luxurious touches, the All New Navigator packs practical features that matter in a city like Dubai. Its cabin is insulated for serenity thanks to enhanced noise‑control measures and acoustic laminated glass, letting you enjoy quiet comfort even amid city’s bustle.
The standard panoramic roof opens up the cabin to city skylines or desert skies, adding an airy sense of space on long drives.
From a tech perspective, everything feels integrated. The digital dashboard keeps critical info near the driver’s line of sight; the center controls are intuitive. Together with refined materials, ambient lighting, and thoughtful seating, the All New Navigator blends luxury with usability.
As we navigated through Dubai’s dynamic mix of high‑speed highways, glittering boulevards, and bustling urban roads, the All New Navigator handled it all with confidence. It looked striking among the skyline and delivered a calm, controlled ride inside.
Whether gliding past gleaming towers or parked with its split gate down by the water, the All New Navigator felt more than just a vehicle. It felt like a private lounge on wheels. Every detail, from the illuminated grille to Lincoln Rejuvenate and the immersive 48 inch panoramic display, echoed an intention: to turn every journey into an experience.
For anyone looking to blend bold presence with interior refinement and technological ease in a modern cityscape, the All New Navigator stands out. It brings luxury, comfort and style together under one roof, and delivers both on the road and off.

Taking the Ford Expedition onto Dubai’s streets reveals why this full-size SUV resonates with families and adventurers across the region. Its development involved hot weather testing in the Middle East, and that preparation shows in how naturally it adapts to long stretches, tight turns, and frequent stops.
The first encounter starts with the Active trim, which introduces the range with calm assurance. Whether in rear wheel drive or all wheel drive form, it offers practicality blended with refinement. The panoramic roof brightens the cabin while its premium ActiveX seats deliver comfort matched to everyday life. Heated front seats give a touch of luxury usually reserved for higher tiers. As traffic flows around it, passengers appreciate how quiet the cabin feels, creating space to talk, think, or simply enjoy the ride. The Active trim balances sophistication and functionality, making it well suited for daily commutes and family trips.
Inside, this atmosphere extends across every trim. Technology and comfort work together rather than compete for attention. Leather seating, a B&O sound system, dual digital displays, and multi zone climate control create an environment that feels premium without being showy. An integrated refrigerator keeps drinks chilled for longer
outings while the split tailgate makes loading and unloading simple. The standout 24 inch instrument panel screen brings a commanding view of navigation and infotainment. Ford Co Pilot360 Assist Plus surrounds the driver with confidence and control, helping the Expedition feel composed on wide roads or narrow lanes.
As the experience continues, the Platinum trim reveals a different personality. Powered by a 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine delivering 400 horsepower and paired with a smooth 10 speed automatic transmission, it transforms routine driving into something unhurried and serene. Exterior touches like 22-inch aluminum wheels and power deployable running boards add visual presence, while the cabin remains indulgent, wrapped in plush leather and supported by advanced safety technologies. Long distances become effortless, and passengers settle into a quiet rhythm that makes the journey enjoyable in its own right.
For those drawn to the rougher edges of the region, the Tremor trim stands ready. Equipped with a high output version of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine producing 440 horsepower and 691 Nm of torque, and supported by specialized suspension, it delivers performance and control.
The Tremor feels at home when the road becomes unpredictable. Aggressive carbonized gray wheels, Raptor inspired running boards, and chassis tuning help it carry as many as eight occupants with confidence, even when terrain turns challenging.
The Stealth Performance trim brings another flavor to the lineup. It keeps the same high output engine as the Tremor but channels it into bold street character. Black aluminum wheels and red brake calipers announce its presence without needing an introduction. Sat behind the wheel, drivers feel a more dynamic tone, one aimed at those who want energy and style alongside technology and comfort. Midway through the drive, looking around the city, the variety of trims becomes clearer. Each one responds to a different lifestyle, whether serene, adventurous, practical, or expressive.
As the journey winds back through Dubai at the end, the Expedition leaves a lasting impression. Its capability, comfort, and choice of personalities give it relevance beyond any one road. With test drives available across the region, it stands ready for drivers to discover how ordinary streets can become memorable experiences.

01 The Air Jordan Ultimate coffee table book, housed in a Baroque clamshell case inspired by the Air Jordan laser-etched graphics
02 A young Michael Jordan photographed during the era that defined his rise, a reminder of the athlete who became a global cultural icon
03 The six NBA championship rings that inspired the book’s chapter structure, symbolizing Jordan’s unprecedented legacy
04 An iconic multi-frame study of Jordan in motion, capturing the gravity-defying athleticism that shaped the mythology of Air Jordan

Published by Assouline, Air Jordan is not a book about basketball or a biography of Michael Jordan. It is a celebration of the 40-year (and counting) partnership between Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand, a celebration of 40 years of greatness as well as Jordan’s impact beyond the Brand on pop culture, business, and style.

This is the first authorized book that’s not focused on Michael Jordan’s life or his athletic career, but the impact he and Jordan Brand have had. Divided into six chapters to honor Jordan’s six championship rings, the book brings to life how Jordan Brand, and Jordan himself, revolutionized design, reshaped business, dominated pop culture, remixed style, elevated athletics, and shaped a legacy that will last for generations to come.
Never-before-published items from Michael Jordan’s personal archives, including his college cap and gown, childhood trophies, and historic apparel pieces were photographed exclusively for this book.
The cultural dominance of the Brand and the man is embodied through gatefolds featuring everything from hundreds of hip-hop lyrics that reference Michael Jordan to his iconic advertisements with both Nike and other brands.
The original Air Jordan sparked controversy with the NBA when Jordan first wore it in 1984, due to its violation of the league’s rules about uniforms. Each Air Jordan sneaker launch since has continued to push boundaries in performance and style; visionary designers like Peter Moore, Tinker Hatfield, and Mark Smith forged a design language that was as disruptive as it was iconic. Michael Jordan remains closely involved in the design process, ensuring that each shoe upholds his uncompromising standards. A gatefold featuring all 40 Air Jordan sneakers is included in the book, showcasing the shoe’s innovation.
The NBA was Michael Jordan’s career, but the partnership between Nike and Jordan Brand was, as he has put it, his MBA. The Jordan Brand was ahead of its time, curating a cult following of “influencers,” as it was one of the first to leverage a community of tastemakers who were already wearing Air Jordan shoes and apparel on their own. The Brand pioneered premium pricing, scarcity marketing, and drop culture long before they became industry standards. David Falk and Curtis Polk, prominent figures in the sportsmanagement field, were integral in building the bridge from Michael Jordan as an athlete to MJ as a businessman. They wove him into the very fabric of American culture through advertising and brand partnerships with companies like Nike, McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Gatorade,
The Ultimate version of the book is limited to just 1,000 hand-numbered copies. This iteration features an intricately tooled clamshell with ornate Baroquedetailing, designed by Jordan Brand chief designer officer, Jason Mayden, and inspired by the laser graphics of the Air Jordan XX. Customers purchasing this version will receive a limited-edition, Italian-made oversized silk scarf centered around the Jumpman logo. The scarf mirrors the intricate artwork embossed on the book’s clamshell case, featuring ornamental motifs arranged in a geometric position. assouline.com
