What goes into a nearly Zero rated home ?

Houses can be constructed with such energy efficiency that a few rooftop solar panels can cover their electricity needs. Here are some of the methods we use to make houses nearly zero rated energy. .

1. Well insulated Attic will keep heat from. escapeping 2. Heat Recovery ventilators keep air fresh and capture heat 3. Solar panels - They provide electricity 4. Smart thermostat 5. LED lighting 6. Walls constructed using Durisol blocks 7. Air-source heat pumps - this will provide energy-efficient heating and cooling 8. Heat-pump water heaters are more efficient than traditional ones 9. Energy storage - optional add-on 10. Insulation 11. Insulation basement walls from the outside - keeps the warmth inside 12. Triple- glazed windows keep extreme temperatures out and allow for extra lighting 13. Doors with weatherstripping and well-sealed frames.

Exterior finishes When designing with Durisol, building finish options are without limits. Durisol blocks can have a variety of wall finishes applied to them to match any desired look and style. Durisol may also be blended in with local brickwork or stonework using synthetic or natural brick and stone slips on the exterior. You can also screw battens and a house wrap membrane to the Durisol and then cover it with your desired wood cladding. Fischer has tested several woodcrete fixings to ensure that a builder can easily screw battens into Durisol without the need for drilling and plugging.

Interior finishes Internally, there are a lot of choices. The woodcrete takes a wet plaster really. From the viewpoint of a plasterer, the additional advantage is that the woodcrete does not support capillary action, so it does not suck moisture out of the plaster during application. This helps the plasterer to work more effectively and achieve a flawless finish.

Plasterboard may also be screwed directly to the Durisol or “dot and dabbed,” or connected to battens screwed directly into the woodcrete.

Brickwork Re-invented...

Thermal mass

A Durisol wall's internal face will consist of 40 mm of woodcrete followed by 120 mm of concrete, which will enable a building reach high levels of thermal mass. The key drawback is that temperature movements across the walls are smoothed out, and the acoustic properties are significantly improved. .

Sustainability Sustainability entails more than just energy conservation, renewable resource utilization, and carbon dioxide back into the environment. It also involves developing structures that have a stable and secure atmosphere in which people can live and function – an environment that improves rather than detracts from one's enjoyment of life.

Durisol helps with this in a multitude of ways: Acoustics : Durisol woodcrete panels are used as sound filters on highways and railways in Europe and North America, and they achieve the best European sound absorption scores. When combined with the thermal mass, this creates an extremely calm and calming atmosphere, which has been especially noticeable in our schools and homes.

Breathability: The size of the air gaps in woodcrete does not facilitate capillary motion of moisture across the unit, but it does allow for a high level of breathability. When breathable skins are used, the building can reach incredible degrees of airtightness while also allowing air to flow through the walls.

Fire resistance: Durisol units have much better fire resistance than their British counterparts in Europe. Owing to the mineralisation process used in the manufacturing of Durisol woodcrete, it will not burn or rot.

New single storey dwelling at the back of the garden 7.0m wide and 6.5m deep to be used as a habitable accommodation for a family member.

The main reason for Woodcrete ICF usage in order to fulfil the project was the full control over the manufacturing process and ensures that our high consistency levels are maintained.

We can satisfy supply-demand with limited lead time and retain a level of price structure unaffected by fluctuating currency exchange rates because we are not reliant on overseas supplies.

Also considering that we are building in the UK Durisol woodcrete ICF can be constructed in all weather conditions.

Innovative design: From the outset, the Durisol system was developed to give designers, specifiers and contractors real flexibility with outstanding all-round performance. The system offers a range of unique benefits and meets all current and planned regulations and recommendations for sustainable building construction. Based upon interlocking modular units (with or without integral insulation) Durisol walling units are dry-stacked - without the need for a bed of mortar. The units are then infilled with concrete to form a monolithic structural walling system. The external and internal faces are then completed with a finish applied directly to the Durisol wall surface.

INTRODUCING 2 BEDROOM HOUSE - END OF TERRACE

Project – build to sell. The developer purchased land attached to the existing property with planning permission. It took us only 6 months to build and 2 months to sell the property by the developer.

The open plan layout on the ground floor with bi-fold doors leads to the private rear garden providing the perfect indoor-outdoor flow for family living and entertaining. The kitchen is fitted with integrated appliances including a fridge/freezer, stainless steel gas hob and oven, washing machine and dishwasher set within a range of base and eye level modern grey handless units and finished with a light quartz countertop. There is also the added convenience of a downstairs W/C.

This is a ‘design and build’ project designed by our associated partners.

Upstairs offers a master bedroom with Juliette balcony overlooking the rear garden, a second double bedroom and a family bathroom fitted with a modern three-piece suite with a shower over the bath. Both bedrooms are fitted with grey upright radiators which adds to the overall modern feel of the property and provides additional wall space often taken up by traditional radiators.

The rear garden has been landscaped to provide a paved seating/dining zone and the remaining area laid to lawn. There is both side and rear access to the garden and hard standing behind the rear fence line which could be utilised as off-street parking for two cars, alternatively, there is an option to enhance the property’s value by adding a garage or studio space (subject to the usual planning consents).

2 BEDROOM HOUSE - PROPOSAL A net zero energy 2 bedroom house produces all of the energy needed for the home and its appliances.

New technology such as prefabricated facades, enclosed rooftops with solar panels, and smart heating and cooling installations can help accomplish this. The house looks modern from the outside after a Net Zero Energy makeover, and it is clean of moisture and draughts on the inside.

This is one of our examples of a Typical 2 Bedroom House built using Durisol Blocks.

If you like where you live, there could be no need to relocate if you have the right expansion plans in place. You can grow and allow yourself more room while still creating a more chic living space with a little imagination.

This is why we are presenting the following project. It has challenged us to extending the house beyond creating more space to be occupied. Just by constructing the side extension house our client has gained nearly double the size of his house (as you can see on the plans below).

Constructing a side building to an existing house.

Many that have a lot of space in their house should take advantage of it and expand.

Adding a room to a house is the most effective way to increase its size. As long as the room complies with municipal building codes, you can be as imaginative as you want with it.

An outgoing extension will usually be transformed into anything from a single living room to a separate wing with several spaces.

You will normally handle whatever the house extension plans are by building out.

Aside from the extra capacity, there are a few other advantages. Specifically, you are not normally required to leave your home when they are working on it. For a bit, it can be loud, dirty, and uncomfortable, but it is always preferable to having to make such plans.

REBUILD AND REFURBISH OF 5-BEDROOM HOUSE.

The house was extended both to optimise its potential as a family dwelling and also to provide a parent’s annexe. Planning consent was obtained for part two-storey, part singlestorey front, side and rear extensions. The design incorporates a triple vaulted roof to the rear and a complete transformation and environmental enhancement of the elevations with insulated render.

The house has been designed and built with an emphasis on environmental performance. External walls are constructed from DURISOL – an engineered sustainable, insulated blockwork – ICF, while the inside of the house has under-floor heating throughout with a highly automated building control system.

EXTENSIVE ALTERATIONS AND EXTENSIONS TO A LARGE DETACHED PROPERTY LOCATED ON A PLOT WITH GENEROUS FRONT AND BACK GARDENS IN GERRARD’S CROSS, SL9.

The concept of the ground floor internal configuration was to create views from the front door, through a large open plan kitchen/dining area into the back garden. The parent’s annexe is located on one side while the family prayer room is on the other. On the first floor, there are two bedrooms with en-suites, two further bedrooms and a bathroom. The bedrooms celebrate the roof form with vaulted ceilings and large windows giving a feeling of spaciousness and light.

Durisbuild also offer to constructs a detached residential house is a stand-alone residential structure that does not share outside walls with another house or building.

Here is one of the projects which we have constructed previously using Durisol blocks.

By using Durisol Blocks we can achieve more in a faster time. It can be used to build straight off the foundations, right up to roof level and as such it’s possible to construct the envelope of the structure phenomenally quickly.

This house option can be occupied by up to 8 people.
