Drop in to the first floor computer lab and try BrainFuse HelpNow, an on-demand tutoring program with a large number of subjects! BrainFuse also features full service practice tests for math, reading, writing and college prep tests like the SAT. Ms. Faith will be on hand to help!

The Homeschool Learning Lab for Teens provides homeschoolers with enriching and unique educational programming in a library setting with an emphasis on teen interest.

Explore STEM education, build relationships, enjoy arts and crafts, and become familiar with library resources. Parents are invited to facilitate sessions.

Do you love to read? Are you excited for books that haven’t even come out yet? Join the Teen Critics Club to read advance copies of young adult novels. Discuss new books with other teens, and write book reviews.

All book reviews will be shared on our blog!

If you are a teen tutor, please attend this mandatory tutoring workshop. Meet the other teen tutors, and learn the skills necessary to become a great tutor. Snacks will be provided.

Participate in our After School Tutoring program. Applications are available at the Children’s Desk and in the Teen Area. High school and middle school tutors will work with kindergarten-6th graders. Join Southwest’s Teen Advisory Group (TAG) to get volunteer time, eat snacks and make an impact at the library! Any teen in grades 6-12 can join. Sep 18: Back-to-School Party: Come to the first TAG meeting of the school year to celebrate, meet other members and play games; Oct. 16: Halloween Happenings: Bring your ideas to make this year’s Haunted House the scariest ever!; Oct. 29: The Haunted House!: If you’re looking for a good scream, come volunteer at the library’s haunted house. Be ghouls, ghosts and creepy crawlies. Get ready for a frightfully fun time!

You must be a member of Southwest’s TAG to participate; Nov. 13: Book-o-Mania: Share your favorite books with other teens! Create the library’s first TAG book list. Books for teens, chosen by teens.

TEEN LGBT BOOK CLUB Mondays, Sep. 21; Oct. 19; Nov. 16 6 - 8 p.m.

This book club is a safe place where LGBT teens and their supporters can read novels that feature LGBT characters, and meet other teens with the same interests. The book club meets on the third Monday of every month.

Snacks will be provided. Check the website for our current selections!

GAME DAY Mondays, Sep. 28; Oct. 26; Nov. 30 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Get your game face on – at the library! Join us for multiplayer Xbox or Wii U games, or play classic board games. Snacks will be provided! *TEEN CREATIVE WRITING CLUB Mondays, Oct. 5; Nov. 2 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

Join other teen writers on the first Monday of every month to stretch your imagination with exercises to help you through the creative writing process. We’ll use prompts and other techniques to get our creativity going. Feel free to bring any of your writing with you. This club of creative writers is for anyone in grades 6-12, all skill levels. Snacks will be provided. At the end of the school year, we will collect all of our writing we did throughout the year and publish a literary magazine!

Stop by the library to see the importance of open information to everyone, and take a look at books that have been banned throughout history. Take home one of the historically banned books, and decide for yourself whether or not it is worthy of your reading time. *EVERYTHING PUMPKIN! Tuesday, Oct. 27 5 - 6 p.m.

Join us for a fall celebration of Everything Pumpkin! Games, crafts and activities all centered around this lovely fruit... did you know it was a fruit?!

MOVIE NIGHT CELEBRATION: THE HUNGER GAMES MOCKINGJAY PART 2 Tuesday, Nov. 17 5 - 8 p.m.

It’s here! The final chapter of this well-loved book turned movie series releases this Friday in theaters! Are you ready? Join us to watch Mockingjay Part 1 in anticipation of Friday, combined with some Katniss-style crafts and snacks.
