Durham’s next game is a away tie on Tuesday night in the cup to Bedlington . Some thing’s are more important than sport and today as much as any other day WE WILL REMEMBER THEM We hope you all enjoy today’s game and enjoy reading today’s programme . Hello everyone once again a warm welcome to you all here at Willington. In the last program after defeat on penalties against Shildon I mentioned the hard work and commitment of the players needed to be joined with a bit consistency and the last two games have proved what we can do a good win away at Tow Law and Bedlington today hopefully we can show what we can do once again after our heavy defeat to Esh only a few weeks ago I know the lads were disappointed not only for themselves but for the good support we took on the day and hopefully we can get three points today and keep climbing the table in a league where everyone is taking points of everyone. Rumour has it that possibly 5 could go down this season and we expect that to be discussed at the league meeting soon but ideally we want to know how many can go up because on our day we can beat anyone and we want to be back in the first division . Ideally in a new ground and more discussions have taken place on land but as discussed earlier surveys on bats newts transport etc needs to be done before we can announce whether we can get the land or not we will keep you informed. The reserves are trying to pull themselves together after the manager left Jordan Nicholson is the new caretaker manager but due to cup games has found it hard for players to be able to sign and play and today a large number of players are away. Our under 18s also have no game today but for a different reason as 6/7 have been called up to play for county level so well done to them. I hope you all have a pleasant day and have a safe journey home to both sets of players staff management and of course supporters. Olivier Bernard.

Well what a game football is and what a difference a few weeks make.I always said once we got a few lads back from injury and stopped the stupid mistakes happening we could beat anyone . Three good wins against Thornaby Tow Law and Bedlington all of which I would say were deserved puts us up the table and there is no reason we cant go alot higher .The effort and commitment of these lads are second to none and I cant thank them enough.Today I would like us to show what we can do after the horror display at Esh where from the start everything that could go wrong did but the lads came back fighting and never give up and today cant be no different ,we cant afford to get

9

carried away we need to keep tight keep the ball and take our chances if we do that we will not be far away . Keep supporting Ollie .

Jack Wilkie – After recovering from a hamstring injury, Jack suffered a bad ankle injury while playing for his university team in September. Hopefully Jack should be back in December. Kieran Harnett – Kieran is receiving injections as treatment for his shoulder to hopefully stop the pain and weakness in his shoulder. We are hoping to have Kieran back early December. Sam Joyce – Sam received his scan results last week he has a full tear of one ligament, a partial tear of another ligament and damage to his cartilage and tendons in his ankle. He is now waiting to go see the consultant to see if he needs an operation. Unfortunately we don’t expect Sam back this season. Jeremy Allen – Jeremy was ready to be back playing after a knee ligament injury he suffered in the first pre-season game, but while training a couple of weeks ago Jeremy suffered the same injury again. Hopefully he will be back in 2 weeks.

For the Fallen - Laurence Binyon

20

25

Probably the most famous and widely read war poem in English and also known, in extract form, as the Ode of Remembrance, For the Fallen was first published in The Times on September 21 1914, just a few weeks after the First World War began on July 28 that year. Binyon was too old to enlist as a soldier in the Great War, but volunteered in hospitals helping wounded French soldiers, and wrote For the Fallen in Cornwall shortly after the Battle of the Marne. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

Club History

DURHAM CITY AFC 5

T

he club was first inaugurated in the 1918-1919 season, operating in the old Victory league, formed in celebration of the end of the First World War.

Afterwards, the team was admitted to the North Eastern League where they played for two seasons before being admitted to Division 3 North in 1921. The club operated in that league until 1928, when they failed to gain re-election and were replaced by Carlisle United F.C. 10

15

20

25

The club reformed in 1950 and gained admission to the Wearside League, where they operated until 1952 before joining the Northern League where they remained until 2008. At the end of the 2007/08 season, their second Championship winning season the club finally achieved promotion to the UniBond First Division North. The club has occupied five different grounds since its formation. In their first season the club played at Garden House Park before moving to Kepier Heughs, near to the old Ferens Park ground where they stayed for four seasons. The club then moved on to Holliday Park (named after the late Alderman T.W. Holliday) where they stayed until 1938. The club’s fourth ground, named after the late Alderman H.C. Ferens, was acquired when the club reformed in 1950. Alderman Ferens was for many years, prior to his death in 1975, President of the club and a generous benefactor in connection with the purchase of the land for that ground. Ferens Park was at that time probably one of the most attractive grounds in the Northern League. The ground hosted the club’s largest attendance, which stands at 7,000, for an F.A. Cup Second Round tie against Tranmere Rovers on 7 November 1957 which City lost 0-3. Durham City ground-shared with Consett AFC in2016/17 season before coming to Willington for the new season and are currently looking at land in Durham .

Esh Winning A Brief History

5

10

15

20

25

Football clubs in Esh Winning date back as far as 1889, including a team which won the Northern League in 1913. The latest incarnation of the club was formed in 1969 as the current version Esh Winning F.C. gained acceptance into the Durham and District Sunday League Third Division. Promotion was achieved in 1971, the Guards Cup was won the following season and in 1973 Esh Winning carried off the Division Two Championship. In 1975 there were victories in the Stafferi Cup and in 1976 the Earls House Sunday Cup. 1979 and 1980 saw Esh carry off back to back Sunday League Championships before spending the 1981/82 season in the Northern Alliance where a respectable sixth place was achieved. Successful election into the newly-created Dryborough’s Northern League Second Division followed where Esh remained until 2002 when the club was promoted to Division One. In the 2005-06 season the club got off to a slow start and were relegated back to the Second Division after 4 years in the Northern League top flight. The 2007/08 season was a proud one in the history of Esh Winning Football Club. Although we finished only 13th in the Second Division, the club won its first piece of silverware since rejoining the Northern League in 1982. Despite being underdogs on the day, Esh lifted the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup with an impressive 3-0 victory in the Final against Sunderland R.C.A. at Ryton’s Kingsley Park ground. In the run to the final Esh also defeated Crook Town, Brandon United and Norton Ancients without conceding a single goal in any game. The 2008/09 season was one of success too, finishing in third place and achieving promotion to the 1st Division where we maintained our position until the struggle of 2010/11 where we relegated to division 2.

Thanks to Darren Knowd For the Photo of the lads before the win at Bedlington don’t forget to send your photos to dcafc@sky.com Last Weekends Roundup Tow Law are back on top of the table thanks to a good 2-1 away win at Thornaby. The home side took the lead through a Mattie Robinson penalty, but Lawyers hit back with two goals by Lewis Teasdale, although Robinson hit the post with another penalty in between. Teasdale has now scored eleven league goals for the season. Northallerton are level with them on points but with a slightly worse goal difference after they beat Crook 2-1 at Ainderby Road. Nicky Martin rounded the keeper to give them a sixth minute lead, then he scored the second from a Shaun Hudson pass on 16 minutes. Kyle Morris scored late on for Crook. Darlington RA were easily beaten 4-1 at Willington, for whom Matty Moffat and Jeff Smith scored a goal in each half. Mark Sims replied for the RA on the hour when the score was 2-0. Chester-le-Street, who were thumped 6-0 in their previous league game, picked up a good point in a goalless draw at home to Easington. Brandon, who are hoping to announce a new manager soon, lost 3-1 at Billingham Town, Ethan Grayson scoring for them. Esh Winning had a dreadful day, trounced 8-0 at home by Whickham.
