MORE than one hundred commercial fishers across the Burdekin and beyond have pooled together to fight new regulations which they say will have a devastating impact on the industry – and their own livelihoods. At the heart of their grievances are State Government proposals to change the existing licence and access rules to a quota system. Alva Beach-based commercial fisher Neil Green says he hasn’t seen anything like it in 45 years of business. Now, he is teaming up with the Queensland Seafood Industry Association to take the matter to court. “It’s a pretty sad situation,” he said. Continued Page 03 >>
