LOSING a family member is never easy, but there is a silver lining that can come from one easy decision. Two Burdekin families have shared their stories, how family members have helped save others in need through organ donation.
This Sunday, 22 November, is DonateLife Thank You Day, and we are being encouraged to stop and have the conversation with our families about being involved in organ donation. Both the Caltabiano and
Pearson families bravely spoke out about losing close family members, but how their choice to be organ donors has kept them alive through helping others. Lenny Caltabiano passed away suddenly in October 2018, but he lives on through
donating his organs. Lenny’s daughter, Natalie, said it means “It was just a matter of the doctor asking the question and us saying yes, and then going through the process of signing the papers, in order to allow him to be an organ
and tissue donor.” “Dad was able to donate his liver, and that was successfully transplanted. We know the recipient was a woman, but that’s all we know. We’ve heard that she’s doing quite well.” Story continued on Page 05
