Catching-up with Karrie Marina Trajkovich KARRIE Webb is a household name not only in Ayr but throughout the world, with some considering the mega-sportstar the best golfer in the history of the sport. She’s part of the Golfing Hall of Fame, has 53 professional wins under her belt and is a role model to many around the world.
Now, the esteemed 46-year-old golfing royalty has returned to her home turf, taking her first swing out of hotel quarantine at the Ayr Golf Club. Arriving in Australia from her home in Florida, Karrie is planning to make Townsville her home for the next few months, while visiting family and friends in Ayr. “The goal prior to COVID was always to
spend six months a year here. I think like the rest of the world we all thought this was going to be over a lot sooner than has eventuated,” says Karrie. She’s been grateful for the opportunity to spend time with family in Ayr, and to get back on the golf course, a change of pace from the current climate in the United States. “It always feels good to come back to Ayr, it’s
where I’ve grown up, it’s my home. My parents, my grandmother and one of my sisters and her family live here too,” says Karrie. “Ayr is a big part of my life and I honestly believe it’s a big reason why I reached the heights that I did. A lot of people could see growing up in a country town as a negative but in the time period I was here playing golf, Ayr was a thriving country town. continued P05
