AYR Chamber of Commerce President Alissa Muir has expressed disappointment at the Commonwealth Bank’s decision to cut back opening hours. Mrs Muir said she was concerned that the CBA’s decision could be the thin edge of the wedge. “I would have thought that the amount of business, farming and agriculture clients in our community would be enough to keep the branch fully operational and staff employed to full capacity,” she said. Mrs Muir was speaking after Tuesday night’s Executive Committee meeting of the Chamber where the matter was discussed. “I would assume that this decision may work against the CBA as existing clients will look for other arrangements with more acceptable hours,” she said. “The public are looking for more flexible hours and accessibility, not highly restrictive hours.” Mrs Muir noted the CBA had reported a net profit of $7.3 billion for the 2020 financial year. This financial year’s profit result will be announced later this month. Ayr is one of 90 CBA regional branches in Australia that will be reducing its opening hours from October 1 this year.
