Cordes&Âmes

Sara and Olivier, a musical fable about tamed opposites. Two contrasting instruments impose themselves on the magnetic field of conciliations, exploring together the confines of genres that were thought to be restricted. From atypical harmonies to magical confrontations, the duel and duo invites us to travel: the borders fade to the benefit of crossed influences, the music of yesterday reinvents Modernity and we let ourselves be carried, over the staves, on a musical terra nova that one leaves regretfully, until the next concert. A very special alchemy links the rubbed strings and the scraped strings. The two instruments are exposed in their similarities and singularities, creating, as painters for the closed eyes, new colors that sometimes agree, sometimes oppose, for grandiose contrasts and vibrant osmoses. It is the story of two kindred spirits ; of two souls and ten strings that no discord can untie. The journey is never the same: it goes further each time, for our greatest joy. The unknown is not hostile when these two virtuosos bring it to light. "…There is a rare link between those two. Osmosis of strong, rigorous, weightless, dancing, sensitive, brilliant sets. A modern romanticism, a wide open fan … " The duet "Cordes et Âmes (Strings and souls)" (journal La Marseillaise)

Three tango seasons in Buenos Aires, in Piazzolla's Argentina, it was yesterday. Two concert seasons in Italy, 300 years earlier ... Between harmony and invention, nature does not choose, and this show is inspired by it. A daring encounter arranged so precisely that these five seasons across time and continents sow a lush garden between our two ears.

Olivier

Pelmoine

« We tend to believe that human emotions are opposed, and yet. Olivier Pelmoine's music makes us discover how sadness and joy are close, how weakness and strength get along perfectly. He has something of John Fante's heroes: born adult but child forever. A warm, tumultuous and free play, but in the precision and concentration proper to the talents that never fall for vanity, and tirelessly seek the fault and push their limits. Perfectionism such as to the ear is crystal clear. » « Mastering his instrument as a mother tongue, he knows how to express all the richness of a soul, be it of wood or of skin. He plays on our sensitive chords with the precision of the greatest, but always with this disarming nature, this casualness mixed with humility that almost literaly strikes us.

Sara

Chenal

«Grace is a fleeting state that art sometimes reveals. An unfocused painted gaze suddenly animated by the last gesture of a great painter, the floating step of a dancer whom, as an autumn leaf, seems lifted and carried away by the wind, and this impossible alliance of tension and weightlessness, this exquisite flexibility that sharpens each note and bring it to life in every interpretation of Sara. Passion transfigures this fragile beauty: she plays as she breathes, in perfect communion with her violin. Such sincerity transforms the listening experience, capsizes the listener who feels every volute, every volume of sound that laughs, leaps, twirls or cries. The music flies away, literally. »

Biographies

Olivier Pelmoine There are trips that we do not forget. For the country and people that we meet, of course; but also for the one who makes you discover and love them. Olivier Pelmoine goes beyond the boundaries of the classic and drives his guitar to Terra incognita. He is in the marvelous land of sound, where we travel eyes closed.

Olivier Pelmoine begins playing the guitar as a child and gets passionate immediately. He soon reveals an extraordinary potential. He naturally directs his studies towards the discipline that already occupies his time and thoughts. His career will be marked by honors. Graduated from the National Conservatory of Music of Paris (« very good » award) and of the Ecole Normale de Musique of Paris (superior execution diploma unanimously), he won the first award of the springboard young talents at the international guitar festival of Montpellier (2000). He also won the international competitions of Ville d'Avray (in honor of Maurice Ohana) and the Ré island in 2002. In 2005 and 2014, he recorded two critically acclaimed solo albums. Art professor, he teaches guitar at the Regional Conservatory of Dijon, at the School of Music Bourgogne Franche-Comté, and via internship and master classes. Artistic director of the event "Guitars in Dijon", he founds the association "Cordes d'Or" in 2003. As a soloist, in chamber music or with orchestra, Olivier Pelmoine, an eclectic concert artist, performs regularly in concert in France and abroad (Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Africa, India, Japan, Philippines, Canada …). Olivier Pelmoine is currently preparing a new album and tour.

Sara Chenal Sara Chenal is passionate about violin since her youngest years. An obvious gift and a clear link with this instrument encourage her to develop this talent. Member of the Dijon Opera from 1996 to 2001, she moved, after her first prize at the National Conservatories of Paris and Lyon, towards a career as a soloist and chamber musician with the guitarist Olivier Pelmoine. Since 2006 she has been the first violin of the Sine Qua Non quartet, of which she is the founding member, and plays frequently in other chamber formations. Sara is a violin and chamber music professor at the Conservatoire de Paris 9ème. She has given several master-classes in France and abroad (Nigeria, Tunisia...). Her last album « Violon au féminin », dedicated to French female composers (with the pianist Jean-Pierre Ferey, label Skarbo), has been critically acclaimed from the US to Japan. She has performed in France and abroad, notably in Paris, Cité de la Musique, Théâtre du Châtelet, Salle Cortot, Salle Gaveau, at Olympia, as well as in many exceptional and historical places. : The Basilica of Vézelay and that of Mont St Michel, the Palais des Papes in Avignon or the Graslin Theater in Nantes. She is frequently asked on television or radio ("Dans la cour des grands", "A la breve", "En pistes" or "Carrefour de l'Odeon". Invited as a soloist or solo violin in orchestral ensembles, she is also involved in many ensembles of contemporary music and is a dedicatee of several pieces (JeanYves Bosseur, Arturo Gervasoni, François Rossé, Pascale Jakubovsky, Atanas Ourkousounov ...)

Cordes & Âmes Duet Discipline and eclecticism on the one hand, strength and finesse on the other hand, certainly characterize the spirit of this duet, all about brilliant contrasts. A vibrant and sensual play serving a perfect instrumental mastery, an obvious complicity, communicative with the public, are all elements contributing to the successful alchemy of this duet. Created in 2001, the duo won the following year two international chamber music competitions and received a « very good » mention chamber music prize at the National Music Conservatory of Paris in 2005. The duet then built himself a tailor-made repertoire, made of long existing masterpieces and creations written for them, enriched by improvisation and personal transcriptions: music of all times and all horizons, ancient, classical, contemporary, musics of Europe of East, Spain or South America, offered to the public with art and enthusiasm. After more than 600 concerts in France and abroad (Italy, Spain, Germany, Nigeria, Tunisia, India, Japan, Philippines, Canada, Caribbean …), the violinist Sara Chenal and the guitarist Olivier Pelmoine definitely excel on stage, where their collaboration offers us a very beautiful musical presence: a rare understanding, a duo of strings and souls. Three albums are currently available at the Skarbo label: Taïgo (2007), San Telmo (2009) and Chansons populaires espagnoles / Spanish Popular Songs (2012).

Quatuor Sine Qua Non The Quatuor Sine Qua Non was founded in 2006, by four musicians graduated from the National Conservatories and Superior Music of Paris and Lyon. Their multiple backgrounds and sensibilities (baroque, contemporary, pop rock, world music, educational research) are so many enrichments that merge into the quartet and make it a protean ensemble. Very quickly they are brought to play in prestigious places, in France (Olympia, Theater Mogador, Unesco, City of music in Paris, Castle of Fontainebleau, Imperial Theater of Compiegne, Théâtre Sébastopol in Lille ...) and abroad ( Cameroon, United Arab Emirates, Morocco, South America ...) and perform in many festivals. The Quartet likes to broaden its horizons, and thus plays in collaboration with eclectic artists such as Olivier Pelmoine, Emilie Simon, the quintet Arte Combo, singers Fabrice Di Falco or Marc Perronne and many others. The Quartet also creates many original shows (The Assassination of the Duke of Guise around the film of A.Calmettes in 2008, Bang and Olufsen in 2008, show mixing the quartet with high technology, The 8 seasons of A.Vivaldi and A. Piazzolla in 2009, The Sorcerer's Love in 2010, etc.). In 2012, they decide to put female composers in the spotlight and begin to explore the vast repertoire of quartets written by women, so little known from the public. They also participate in chamber music masterclasses, and intervene as well in schools or prisons, especially during the 2015 and 2016 editions of "Musician in Guadeloupe" and "Musician in Martinique".
