Dunsany Nature Reserve

Dunsany Nature Reserve – the truth! In 2018, the owner of Dunsany Castle established social media pages declaring part of the castle grounds a nature reserve. However, a "nature reserve" is an area of land which is protected under Ministerial order by the Irish Government – the grounds of Dunsany Castle are not a nature reserve - they are the private gardens of the castle owner. Access is not available to the public. Since 2018, the owner has been using the social media page and various other media outlets to gather support from various environmental groups with the objective of protesting against the proposed Navan rail line which will pass through the mainly agricultural estate. Many of these articles refer to a "re-wilding" project that claims to be in existence since 2014-15 - however no public information about the nature reserve or the rewilding campaign before 2018. On 23 November 2021, the private landowner used the social media pages to request their 10,000+ followers to object to the proposed rail route. The social media page makes various false claims and has misled hundreds of people on the impact of the proposed train route. If this campaign is successful, Dunshaughlin will lose a train station. What is the truth? - the proposed rail alignment skirts the edge of Dunsany estate and follows the old track alignment making it the most environmentally friendly route available. This will be subject to fully transparent and independent environmental assessments. We can be certain that the number of trees planted during this project will out-number those cut down.
