Making sweet ice cream history

Our story began in 1945 when two brothers-in-law, Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins, discovered a shared dream to create an innovative ice cream shop that would be a neighborhood gathering place for families.

That dream became a reality, and today Baskin-Robbins is the largest chain of ice cream specialty shops in the world, with over 7,700 stores serving more than 300 million happy customers each year.

1945: Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins open first ice cream store in sunny

Glendale, California.

1950s: Burt and Irv decide to sell locations to store managers making

Baskin-Robbins the first ice cream franchise.

1960s: Baskin-Robbins hits more than 400 stores in the United States.

1970s: International expansion begins as stores open in Canada, Japan,

Saudi Arabia, Korea and Australia.

1990s: Baskin-Robbins innovated the frozen coffee category in 1994 by

introducing the Cappuccino BlastŽ, the world’s first frozen-blended coffee drink.

2016: Today, there are over 7,700 stores worldwide, serving over 4

300 million customers a year!
