Blackrock has endured some of the worst flooding in years this week as local businesses battled against the elements to protect their premises from the onslaught of water. Blackrock trader Conor Hughes has praised the swift response of Louth County Council as they arrived on the scene with sandbags to aid local businesses battle the elements. Conor, who runs a music shop and charity shop in the village says the floods were some of the worst in living memory and was thankful that his shops escaped any flooding during the storms. “Thankfully none of our shops got damaged during the flooding and we have

managed to stay open even through the worst of the weather. Unfortunately there were other businesses along the main street which weren’t as lucky as us but hopefully they aren’t too bad” ,said Conor. Louth County Council have been great it has to be said and they were here with sandbags to help the businesses on the street out in anticipation of the flooded street. The Sub Aqua Club also deserve a mention as I seen them here practically throughout the whole weekend helping out around the place” ,he added. Castlebellingham native, Amanda English defeated her Italian opponent in a tough contest and is already looking forward to her next figh.
