Fundraiser in memory of Evan McArdle raises over €43k Jock and Susan McArdle handed over a cheque for €43,707 in Kennedy’s Bar last week to Colin Bell on behalf of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. Jock and Susan are the parents of the late Evan McArdle who died tragically in Vietnam last January. The trust provided the finance and valuable assistance in the repatriation of Evan’s remains. Colin and Eithne Bell set up the trust fund after their son Kevin was knocked down by a car while working in New York. He subsequently died from his injuries at the age of 26 in June 2013. The Bell family were astounded at the amount of financial support they received to help with the repatriation of their son, which was given through personal and online donations from family and friends. The Bell family decided immediately to set up a fund to help other families who found themselves in similar circumstances, which give birth to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust Fund. The trust fund has helped facilitate almost 100 repatriations to date.

A sponsored cycle and sponsored walk were the principal fundraising events and despite horrendous weather over the weekend of the fundraisers both events were extremely well supported as can be seen from the amount raised. Both Jock and Susan expressed their sincere gratitude to all those who participated to all those

who participated in and contributed to the fundraising events. “In relation to the cycling, special thanks is due to Kevin McKee and the cycling committee, Slieve Gullion Wheelers, Philip Kerley, Clem Bailey and Barry Rogers of Cuchulainn Cycling Club, Country Cruisers road marshals and Dundalk Civic

Defence,” noted Jock who also expressed his gratitude to all sponsors. The Mountain walk which took place in June not only raised money for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust but also served to remember Evan McArdle as well as Silverbridge man Niall Quinn who died in Australia also last January.
