We have a fantastic lear ning suppor t depar tment known as EdX. All c hildren at Dumpton are suppor ted to fulfil their potential, and if they have any bar r ier s to their lear ning we will work closely with you to identify what these may be and put the appropr iate suppor t in place. There is univer sal suppor t for ever y c hild in the classroom, but it may be that some additional targeted suppor t is suggested for your c hild.
At this age, it is ver y early to diagnose specific lear ning needs – but if we feel your c hild has a specific lear ning need we will raise this with you. Please always feel free to speak to us if you have any concer ns about their lear ning and prog ress.
H O M E L E A R N I N G
Pupils are g iven home lear ning activities eac h week in the Pre-Prep, and these var y depending on their age and stage of lear ning. We tr y to ‘get the balance r ight’ to ensure that this can suppor t pupils prog ress, without putting any unnecessar y pressure or strain onto home life. However, t h
outside of sc hool, the easier they will find things in lessons and the better their prog ress will be.
For m tutor s will explain the expectations at our beg inning of ter m ‘Infor mation Evening’, but home lear ning may consist of:
• Daily reading/phonics
• Maths activities
• Spelling/handwr iting practice
• Optional online activities (eg Numbots)
R E WA R D S A N D P R A I S E
The best way to promote super behaviour and motivate c hildren is to ensure that they receive a strong sense of positivity when they are ‘getting things r ight’.
The c hildren are encouraged to have positive attitudes towards eac h other and towards their work, and receive lots of praise when due. This comes in the for m of verbal praise, stic ker s, postcards, cer tificates and even cups. These are awarded when the c hildren live our values of Being Kind and Aiming High or when they demonstrate the vir tues of the Dumpton Way.
