2016 Girls Scout Programs

Inspired Painter Armed with artistic inspiration from the various 18th-19th century art forms at Dumbarton House, Brownies expand their art vocabulary and create their own artwork to take home! Explore how to express yourself in a self-portrait and share a story by painting a group mural. Painting Badge Steps: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 Brownies; Day or Overnight Drawing Dumbarton

Using 200 year-old objects from the museum, scouts will explore various methods and techniques of drawing including still life, shading, perspective, and even cartoons. During this program specific to art, Juniors will expand their art vocabulary and take home a portfolio of their creations. Drawing Badge Steps: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 Juniors; Day or Overnight Bygone Games With their scavenger hunt and haversack, scouts will tour the museum to learn what life would have been like for children in the Federal Period. Afterwards it’s time to play! Brownies will try games from the period and reinvent the rules to come up with a new game to play with their fellow scouts. Making Games Badge Steps: 1, 2,3, and 4 Brownies; Day or Overnight Playing the Past Learn how girls lived during the Federal Period. Juniors will tour the historic house to “research” their role, then it’s time to pretend you’re a young woman living in the new capital city. Write with a quill pen, play games, make a clothespin doll to take home, and end with a tea party. Playing the Past Badge Steps: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 Juniors; Day or Overnight

Girl Scout Programs Step back in time at Dumbarton House during one of our Scout programs! All programs include a tour, materials, snack, and Dumbarton House patch.

Pricing & Scheduling Day programs are offered Tuesday - Sunday from 10am – 5 pm. Programs last about 2.5 hours. Public day programs cost $15/Girl Scout and $5/ Adult. Private day programs may be scheduled for a minimum cost of $85 per program, for up to 5 Scouts and 2 adult. Each additional Scout, $15; each additional Adult, $5. A $50 deposit is due at time of registration. Overnight programs are offered weekend nights at 7:30pm through 8:00 am the following day. Overnights include a continental breakfast. Public overnight programs cost is $30/Girl Scout and $10/Adult. Private overnight programs may be scheduled for a minimum cost of $630 per overnight for up to 20 scouts and 3 adults. Each additional Scout, $30; each additional Adult, $10. All participants share the same sleeping area, thus only female chaperones are permitted to sleep over. A $50 deposit is due at time of registration.

At Ease with Etiquette—NEW! Learn the essentials of etiquette and how it has evolved over time. From table manners to polite conversation, scouts will get to practice the basics. After, they’ll put what they’ve learned to the test during an afternoon tea party with their new friends!
