Dumbarton House School Programs Introducing students to our nation's past! During hands-on programs at Dumbarton House, students "travel back in time" 200 years and explore early Washington, D.C. history. All programs are designed to meet D.C. curriculum standards in the areas of social studies, history, and language arts. Time Travelers Kindergarten-1st grade, 1.5 hours Travel back in time and experience life as a child living in the Capital's earliest days! Students will meet "Joseph and Maria Nourse" to learn more about how they lived at Dumbarton House. Students will explore what it was like living so long ago, play early American games, and enjoy a light snack. Maximum group size: 25 students with 3 required adult chaperones. Minimum group size: 8 students. Capital Quest 2nd-4th grade, 2 hours Take a quest and experience early Washington, D.C. history! By spying for clues, students will learn about the new capital, explore the geography and resources of Washington, D.C., read primary sources, and enjoy a light snack. Maximum group size: 30 students with 3 required adult chaperones. Minimum group size: 8 students. Explore 1805! 4th-6th grade, 2 hours Explore life 200 years ago! Students will examine how people lived, socialized, and worked at Dumbarton House during the early 1800s. After an interactive tour, they will enjoy "taking" tea, dressing in period-appropriate clothing, and writing with a quill pen. Maximum group size: 30 students with 3 required adult chaperones. Minimum group size: 8 students. Parthenon to Portico 6th-8th grade, 2 hours What does America have in common with ancient Greece? Students will learn how America was influenced by this great civilization by comparing Classical Greek and American ideals of government, art, and architecture. In teams, using elements of Classical Greek design and their own imagination, students will create their own designs for a building they could use today. Maximum group size: 30 students with 3 required adult chaperones. Minimum group size: 8 students.
