Fall Homeschool History Days All programs are held on Wednesdays from 1-3 pm. Programs are open to students ages 5-12. Programs include a hands-on, interactive tour of the museum or grounds followed by workshop activities and snack.
School and Fun in the Federal Period, September 16, 2015 – What would your school and social life been like if you lived during the Federal Period? Students will learn about their homeschool routine 200 years ago, as well as what they would have done for fun outside of their lessons. Historic and contemporary games will be created and played.
Parthenon to Portico, October 21, 2015 – What does America have in common with Ancient Greece? Students learn how America was influenced by this great civilization by comparing Classical Greek and American ideals of government, art, and architecture.
Harvest Time, November 18, 2015 – Would you eat oyster flavored ice cream? Could you make cookies with a recipe that has no exact measurements? Using primary sources and observation, students will learn how food was created and consumed at Dumbarton House (Oyster ice cream taste test not included!).
Winter Warmth at Dumbarton House, December 16, 2015 – Keep your body and spirit warm by learning about winter and Christmas in the Federal Period. Students will compare and contrast their experience of winter with that of the Nourse family at Dumbarton House. Create your own Christmas treat to take home. Registration should be made at least 1 week prior to program date. All programs provide a snack. Please notify staff of any food allergies at least 48 hours in advance. Payment The charge for our programs is $6 per student, $3 per adult (supplies & snack included). Cancellations must be made at least 7 days before program date to be eligible for a refund. Students must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult. Special Needs The Museum’s programs are available to all students as the hands-on programs are developed to connect with all learning styles. Given enough notification, Museum Educators can adapt programs to fit the specific needs of your students. The Museum is wheelchair accessible.
