Dumbarton House Scout Programs Step back in time at Dumbarton House during one of our Scout programs! Bring your Scout troop to learn about the early history of Washington, D.C. and participate in hands-on activities to earn portion of their badges/journeys.

Overnight Badge Adventures Brownie Overnight Adventures American Symbols and Stories Overnight Adventure O, say can you see! – Explore Dumbarton House and discover American symbols important to our community and our nation. Brownies will create patriotic hats, sing patriotic songs, and learn to write with a quill pen.

Brownies will complete steps 1, 2, and 4 of the Celebrating Community Badge.

Paint It! Overnight Adventure Become an artist at Dumbarton House! Brownies go on a scavenger hunt through the historic home in search of 200 year old paintings. Armed with artistic inspiration, Brownies create their own artwork to take home!

Brownies will complete steps 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the Painting Badge.

Playing the Past Overnight Adventure Party into the past at Dumbarton House! Brownies explore the historic house to learn about games and entertainment from early America. After their tour, Brownies enjoy an early American tea party, make a special doll to take home, play early American games, and learn to write with a quill pen.

Brownies will complete steps, 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the Making Games Badge.

Become an artist at Dumbarton House! Scouts journey through the historic home in search of 200 year old works of art. Armed with artistic inspiration, Scouts create their own artwork and host a special Art Show featuring their completed work!

Girl Scouts will complete steps, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the Drawing Junior Badge.

After their tour, Scouts enjoy an early American tea party, make a special doll to take home, play early American games, and learn to write with a quill pen.

Day Badge Programs Get Moving at Dumbarton House!

Junior 4 Session Day Program

Get moving as you journey through Dumbarton House! During four 2 hour long programs, Scouts explore Dumbarton House and its grounds to learn more about how energy was used in the past, how it is used today, and how it can be used more wisely in the future. Scouts conduct an energy audit of the house and create their own Innovate project. The program concludes with a special ceremony where Scouts present their projects to family and friends. Snacks and art projects are included in each of the four sessions.

Scouts will earn their Energize, Investigate, and Innovate leadership Awards.

Brownie ONLY Day Program

Girl Scout Overnight Adventures Offered weekend nights from 7:30 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the following day.

Each program includes craft materials, a Dumbarton House patch, a snack, and continental breakfast.

For the open/prescheduled overnights, the cost is $30/Girl Scout, $12/Adult, with payment in full due two weeks prior to the program. Private overnight programs may be scheduled for a minimum cost of $624 per overnight for up to 20 scouts and 2 adults. Each additional Scout, $30; each additional Adult, $12. Overnight Adventures can accommodate a maximum of 35 Scouts. 2 adult for every 12 Scouts is required. All participants share the same sleeping area, thus only female chaperones are permitted to sleep over.

Girl Scout Day Programs Day programs are offered Tuesday - Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Programs last about 2 hours. Requests for other times may be accommodated. Each program includes craft materials, a Dumbarton House patch, and snack.

For the open/prescheduled day programs, the cost is $15/Girl Scout, $5/Adult, with payment in full due two weeks prior to the program. Private day programs may be scheduled for a minimum cost of $80 per program, for up to 5 Scouts and 1 adult (snack and supplies included). Each additional Scout, $15; each additional Adult, $5.

Get Moving! includes 4 separate 2-hour sessions. Sessions can be scheduled Tuesday - Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Cost is $60/Scout and $20/Adult for all four sessions.

Day programs can accommodate a maximum of 35 Scouts

Registration should be made at least 1 month prior to program date. A $50 deposit is due at the time of registration to reserve your program date. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than 14 days prior to scheduled program.

All programs provide a snack. Please notify staff of any food allergies.

Special Needs The Museum’s programs are available to all Scouts as the hands-on programs are developed to connect with all learning styles. Given enough notification, Museum Educators can adapt programs to fit the specific needs of your Scouts. The Museum is wheelchair accessible.
