Baby Storytime • Birth to 24 months Special Saturday Session! Join us for a brief storytime—ideal for babies ages birth to 24 months—then stay for early literacy playtime and socialization. This month, we’ll have one special Saturday storytime for babies! Mondays 10:15 am Gold Sat. January 28 10:15 am Gold Family Storytime • Birth to Kindergarten Join us at the library for storytime! Geared for birth to pre-school age kids, we will share books, songs, and fingerplays. The focus will be on having fun and sharing the joy of learning essential early literacy skills. Wednesdays 10:15 am History Day Hullaballoo • Teens Are you working on a Minnesota History Day project? Sign up for a Power Conference and get individual project help, chat with a librarian, or attend a mini-lesson on different parts of the History Day process. These events are first-come, first-serve. Sat. January 7 11:00 am-3:00 pm Green Play and Learn for Family, Friends, and Neighbor Care Providers New Program! Are you caring for the young children of a family member, friend, or neighbor? Join us for a fun-filled event of reading, singing, and playing together with the little ones you care for! Meet other care providers, help children learn and build skills through play, and learn helpful tips on caring for them. All participants will receive free books, project supplies, snacks and resources. Sessions are designed for care providers to bring children with them, but you can also come on your own. Mon. January 9 3:00-4:00 pm Green Vision Boards • Adults Join us to make vision boards and start 2023 off strong! All materials will be provided. Registration is not required. Tues. January 10 5:30-7:00 pm Green Musical Story Hour • Birth to Kindergarten Join the Music Together in the Valley program to build early learning skills through music, movement, and play with your children, ages birth to 5. Visit musictogetherclasses.org for more information on the Music Together program. Thurs. January 12 10:15-11:00 am Green Wiggle Time for Littles • Birth to Kindergarten Geared for kids, birth-age to 5. Older siblings are welcome! Open Craft Afternoon • Adults Do you like to craft but you never seem to have time for it? Bring your project to the library for some distraction-free, uninterrupted hours of crafting. We won’t have a dedicated project or materials— this is just a chance for you to work on your creation and socialize with other craft enthusiasts! Sat. January 14 1:00-4:00 pm Green Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Club • Adults We read nonfiction to learn about facts, romance to find love, mysteries to solve a crime. But what about science fiction and fantasy? If you’ve never tried science fiction or fantasy now is the time! This month’s choice is Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. Tues. January 17 6:00-7:00 pm Gold ESCAPE THE BOOK! Escape Room • Tweens, Teens, and Adults Reserve your spot for our one-day-only escape room, created by the DPL Teen Advisory Board members for tweens, teens and adults! Solve the puzzles in time to free the author from the book they are trapped in and you will be rewarded! Come early or stay after to play board games and video games in the Green Room. Max of 6 people per party/time slot. Sat. January 21 Gold and Green Available times: 10 am, 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm Movie for Kids: The Bad Guys! • Kids Join us for a showing of The Bad Guys!, a movie based on the book series by Aaron Blabey. The story is about “five infamous friends—Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Shark, and Ms. Tarantula. After years of countless heists and being the world’s most-wanted villains, the gang is finally caught. Mr. Wolf brokers a deal to keep them out of prison, and the Bad Guys set out to fool the world into believing they’ve gone good.” (DreamWorks, 2022) Rated PG; runs for 1 hour and 40 minutes. Registration not required but space is limited for this event. Mon. January 23 10:30 am-12:30 pm Green Teen Anime and Manga Club • Teens Meet fellow fans of Anime & Manga to hang out and watch anime on the big screen in the Green Room. Drawing, crafts, and other activities will be available if you are interested. Pizza will be served while it lasts. Exclusively for teens in grades 6 – 12. Thurs. January 26 4:00-6:00 pm Green All Day Slow Sew • Adults Have you heard of English Paper Piecing? Dating back to the 1770s, EPP (for short) is a method of quiliting by hand. In this class, we will learn all about the techniques of EPP and put that learning into practice to make coasters to take home. All fabric and notions are provided but if you wish to bring your own fabric you will need two fat quarters of different fabrics. Bookopoly | All Month • All Ages A twist on the classic board game that encourages you to explore beyond your usual reading preferences. Mt. Royal Book Club | In Person and Online The Mt. Royal book club meets on the first Wednesday of each month to discuss fiction and nonfiction titles. In January, join us to discuss The Zookeeper’s Wife, the true story of Jan and Antonina Zabinski who, during the height of World War II, saved hundreds of lives by hiding people in their zoo. Stickerpalooza • Preschool, Kids, Tweens, Teens It’s Sticker Palooza! Come and sift through our collection of stickers to create your own sticker journal. Our all ages Winter Reading Program is underway! You can get registered on our website at duluthlibrary.org or by following the QR code. Younger readers from birth age to teen are welcome to stop by any branch for a free book when they register. Log your reading hours to win prizes! Program ends on February 28.
