The evening kicks off with a reception at 5:30 PM, followed by the movie screening at 6:30 PM. It’s the perfect opportunity to share the joy of reading with your community. Thurs. September 5 6:00-7:00 pm Online Adventure Book Club: Psalm for the Wild-Built • Adults Meet us at the Chester Park chalet to discuss A Psalm for the WildBuilt by Becky Chambers. This charming fantasy novella examines a tea monk’s encounter with a robot, centuries after robots left humanity and went into the wilderness. Our discussion will be followed by an optional, gentle hike led by Parks and Recreation.

Play & Learn for Family, Friend, and Neighbor Care Providers Are you caring for the children of a family member, friend, or neighbor? Join us for a fun-filled morning of reading, singing, and playing together with the little ones in your care. Meet other care providers and learn about how you can support skill-building and learning. All participants will receive free books, supplies, and snacks. Both children and their caregivers are welcome!

Will It Float? • Grades 2-5 What makes something float? We will conduct hands-on experiments and have a challenge to see who can build the most supportive boat that stays afloat. Recommended for Grades 2–5.

Family Storytime & Discovery • Birth to Kindergarten Start the morning with stories, rhymes, songs, and movement geared to children birth to preschool age and their grownups.

Afterwards, continue learning through explorative play that builds early STEAM skills, creativity, and curiosity.

Plant Swap • Adults Meet fellow plant enthusiasts at the Main Library for a plant swap!

Please bring your swap in a container of some sort. Please provide a label with plant name and info, if possible. Extra plants will be available—you do not need to bring a plant to take home a friend!

September 10 4:00-7:00 pm Green Great North Innocence Project • Adults The Great North Innocence Project (GNIP) works to free wrongfully convicted people from prison and prevent wrongful convictions in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. In this presentation Jack Reuler, GNIP Speakers Bureau Lead, will draw on real cases to explain the primary causes and consequences of wrongful convictions along with possible solutions.

Mysterious MN with Chad Lewis: Haunted Sites • Tween and Older This presentation takes the audience on a ghostly journey to some of the most haunted places in the state, with prowling phantoms in the Northwoods and Wabasha B&B with unexplained activity. No place is without its hauntings! Geared for tweens to adults.

Lord of the Rings Trivia • 13 and Older Celebrate World Hobbit Day by stepping into Middle-earth and test your knowledge of Tolkien's epic saga! Questions will be focused mainly on the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings movies. Come by yourself or with a team. Prizes for the three highest scores.

Sat. September 21 10:00 am-12:00 pm Green Interactive Film Viewing: Fellowship of the Ring • 13 and Older Celebrate World Hobbit Day at the library's interactive viewing of The Fellowship of the Ring. We will laugh, cry, and shout as our heroes start their journey to destroy the ring of power. Props, scripts, and fun provided. Attendees are welcome to dress up and truly embrace the theater of it all. This film is rated PG-13.

Sat. September 21 1:00-4:30 pm Green Loteria • All Ages Celebrate Latinx Heritage Month and play one of Mexico’s most popular games! Lotería is similar to bingo—first, a card is called; if a player has the correct number of beans on the card, they call out “Lotería!” Play to win Mexican candy. Drop in any time.

Wed. September 18 4:00-6:00 pm Blue Heck of a New Deal • Teens and Adults Incorporating humor and history, Sue and Brian Matuszak will talk about Minnesota’s artists and the public artworks they created throughout the Arrowhead during the Federal Art Project in 1935.

Many pieces are still around to see, while others have mysteriously (and not so mysteriously) disappeared. No registration needed.

Mon. September 30 3:30-4:30 pm Blue Squad Car Storytime • Birth to Kindergarten Join us for a special Family Storytime with a Duluth Police officer!

The officer will read stories, answer questions, and show their squad car. Storytime will be held outside and move indoors if needed.

Mysterious Creatures of MN with Chad Lewis • Tween to Adult Lewis will showcase his on-site investigations, from the Bigfoot of the Northwood and the monster of Lake Pepin to phantom chickens and Hellhounds roaming rural MN. Filled with witness drawings, photos, eye-witness testimony, and bizarre sound clips, this presentation brings the investigation right to the audience.

DIY Magic Garden for Kids and Tweens •Kids and Tweens Create a magical flower garden to attract tiny mythical creatures!

Real flowers will grow from the decorated garden that you create.

We’ll supply the flower seeds, soil, and decorations. All you’ll need is some imagination and your own personal magic. Registration is required. Please email kbreezee@duluthmn.gov to register after August 26. Best suited for kids and tweens!
