Parents & Young Children Family Story and Playtime • Birth to Kindergarten Join us for this new format for Family Storytimes! Start the morning with a storytime geared for kids ages birth to Kindergarten in the Gold Room from 10:15-10:45. You and your children will have fun while building essential early literacy skills through stories, songs, rhymes, and movement. Afterwards, head to the Green Room for open play (until 11:30 am) that builds both large and fine motor skills and helps get those winter wiggles out. Please note, we will not meet Wednesday, January 3. Every Wednesday 10:15-11:30 am Gold/Green Baby Storytime • Birth to 24 Months Join us for a brief storytime, ideal for babies birth-24 months. Then stay for some early literacy playtime and socialization. Please note, we will not meet on Thursday, January 4. Every Thursday 10:15-10:45 am Gold Wiggles for Littles: Story and Playtime • Birth to Kindergarten Come for storytime at 10:15 in the Gold Room and stay for open playtime from 10:45 to noon in the Green Room. There will be activities for ALL kinds of movement– running, skipping, throwing, climbing, crawling, and dancing, to name a few! Sat. January 13 10:15am-12:00 pm Gold/Green

Learn About Child Care and Preschool in Duluth

Are you looking for childcare or preschool for your child? Do you have questions about it? We’re bringing in community experts to answer your questions about the different child care Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club • Adults and preschool options in Duluth, how to apply, Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club is getting out! Cold Front with Duluth Parks and Recreation • All Ages Celebrate the best of winter fun at Cold Front, a free, familyfriendly event at Bayfront Festival Park (350 Harbor Drive). Family Gaming • All Ages Drop in anytime throughout the day to play games with your family. We will provide a Switch, Wii U, and board games appropriate for a wide range of ages—or you can bring your own! Kids 7 and younger need to be accompanied by an adult. Sat. Bullet Journaling • Adults The library will supply a small journal, markers, pens, stickers, stencils, stamps, templates, and more to get you started on your planner for the new year. In addition to bullet journaling, we will work on other helpful intention-setting tools: vision boards, goal setting, writing prompts, habit tracker. Registration is required. Thurs. January 11 5:30-6:30 pm Gold Whimsical Food Earrings • Adults We will have supplies for everyone to make three pairs: the classic hard-shell taco, cute frosted sugar cookies, and cinnamon rolls. Due to the skills necessary for the project, this class is for adults only. Registration is required. Please note: We will make the earrings in class, but you will need to bake them at home—access to an oven is required. Thurs. January 25 5:30-7:30 pm Green Winter Landscape Guided Painting • Adults Create a lovely painting of a snowy winter night, with step-by-step instructions! All supplies provided. Winter Science • K-5 Kids K-5, join us for STEM activities based on our very coldest time of year. We will be making snow slime, going “ice fishing,” and learning about protein molecules. Tues. In the first session of this monthly series, we will build with LEGO; create from your imagination or take on a challenge! Story Writing for Young Authors • Kids, Tweens, Teens Have you ever wanted to create your own book? Come to this event to learn about what makes a story, practice writing a story, and finally creating your own hardcover book. There will be a brief lesson to teach children about things like plot, characters, and setting. Registration required! Sat. January 13 2:00-4:00 pm Green Lake Superior Zoomobile: Animals of MN and WI • Ages 5-11 Meet some of our local animal neighbors and learn how they adapt to live successfully in this environment. This program will take place on the floor in the Green Room at the library. We will have chairs available but the best experience will be on the ground surrounding the animal pen. National History Day Minnesota:

Research Open House and Project Help Join us for a research open house and get extra help on your History Day project! Meet in the Local History Center on the second floor of the Main Llibrary. No need to register. Royal Book Club: Firekeeper’s Daughter • Adults Meet at Mount Royal to discuss fiction and non-fiction titles! January’s title is Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley. Born to an Ojibwe father and a white mother, 18-year old Daunis has never felt she belongs to either of her identities. As she struggles to find her place in her community, she dreams of a fresh start at college. When tragedy strikes, Daunis puts her future on hold to uncover the painful secrets hurting both of her communities. February’s title is Still Life by Louise Penny. New members are always welcome! ‘TINES FOR THE PINES: Making Valentines for Pines Assisted Living Facility Take a moment at the library and make a Valentine for residents of the Pines Assisted Living Facility or someone special in your life. All ages welcome to particpate; all supplies provided. Tuesday, January 29 — Tuesday, February 13 Sticker Palooza 3 • All Ages The fun continues with our third Sticker Palooza. If you have stickers you want to share, bring ‘em! You can decorate a journal we provide, or bring something from home (not required). Chess Club • All Ages Players of all ages and experience levels are invited! The first hour will be spent learning the basics and strategies to win. January 18 5:00-7:00 pm Evergreen STEM Bots • Elementary-Aged Learn and play with robots! Participants will be introduced to coding with various, easy-to-program robots. These little bots open up the creative side of coding, while promoting problem-solving skills, communication, and teamwork! This program is best to suited to elementary-aged kids.
