Parents & Young Children Family Story and Playtime • Birth to Kindergarten Join us for this new format for Family Storytimes! Start the morning with a storytime geared for kids ages birth to Kindergarten in the Gold Room from 10:15-10:45. You and your children will have fun while building essential early literacy skills through stories, songs, rhymes, and movement. Afterwards, head to the Green Room for open play (until 11:30 am) that builds both large and fine motor skills and helps get those winter wiggles out. Every Wednesday 10:15 am-11:30 Gold/Green Baby Storytime • Birth to 24 Months Join us for a brief storytime, ideal for babies birth-24 months. Then stay for some early literacy playtime and socialization. Every Thursday 10:15-10:45 am Gold Wiggles for Littles: Story and Playtime • Birth to Kindergarten Come for storytime at 10:15 in the Gold Room and stay for open playtime from 10:45 to noon in the Green Room. There will be activities for ALL kinds of movement– running, skipping, throwing, climbing, crawling, and dancing, to name a few! Sat. February 10 10:15 am-12:00 pm Gold/Green

Cold Front Festival Cold Front with Duluth Parks and Recreation • All Ages Celebrate the best of winter fun at Cold Front, a free, familyfriendly event at Bayfront Festival Park (350 Harbor Drive). Out and About Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club • Adults Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club is getting out! We will gather at The Loch Café (318 N 18th Ave E.) for the next two months. In February, we will discuss Bull by David Elliott. Think you know all about the story of the Minotaur in the Labyrinth? Let’s just say our narrator Poseidon has a few words that might change your mind! Thurs. February 15 6:00-7:00 pm The Loch Café For March, we will discuss John Dies at the End. The important thing is this: the drug is called Soy Sauce and it gives users a window into another dimension. John and I never had the chance to say no. You still do. DIY Oracle Deck • Adults Have you ever wondered what it takes to create an Oracle Deck? Join artists Sarah Brokke and Kyle Elden as they talk about their journey in creating and publishing their Oracle Deck. Sarah and Kyle will talk about how to incorporate your art into a deck and lead an exercise to help you unlock your creative power. Registration required. Tues. All Ages Fun Mini Golf at the Library! • All Ages Play mini golf in the library with your family and friends! Start at the Youth Services desk and putt your way around the first floor of the library. Pick a treasure from the box when you have completed the 9th and final hole! No need to register for a tee time, just stop by the Youth Services desk for balls and putters. Tues. February 20—Saturday Feb 24 10:00 am-4:00 pm The Lord of the Rings Escape Room • All Ages Gather your band of heroes to work together to find the one true ring and keep it from the clutches of Sauron! Wizards, elves, dwarves, hobbits, and humans are all welcome. Recommended for ages 8 through adult. Space for groups of 2-6 players per time slot. Kids’ Construction Series • Kids & Tweens Do you love to build stuff? In the first session of this monthly series, we will build with LEGO; create from your imagination or take on a challenge. In the second session, we will create with LEGO and beyond, using KEVA Planks, K’nex, Squigz, straw construction toys, popsicle sticks and more! Teens & Adults Jason Statham Takes a Vacation • Older Teens & Adults Jason Statham is going on vacation with his entourage! In this role-playing game, you can step into one of the four roles as a member of the entourage and insure that the beloved action hero is having a good time. But beware! Behind every good time, a villain is lurking…There are four roles to fill: Agent, Lawyer, Security Guard, and Tour Guide. When registering, please indicate your top two choices of roles to fill. Groups are welcome, but each player must register individually. Due to the potential graphic nature of the game’s content, this program is open to players 15 and older. Sat. ‘TINES FOR THE PINES: Making Valentines for Pines Assisted Living Facility Take a moment at the library and make a Valentine for residents of the Pines Assisted Living Facility or someone special in your life. All ages welcome to particpate; all supplies provided. Tuesday, January 29 — Tuesday, February 13 Artist Talk with Sam Zimmerman • All Ages After twenty years working in public education, Zimmerman returned home to Minnesota and rededicated himself to his painting. Zimmerman’s work explores his Ojibwe heritage along with his learnings and experiences in nature. His work preserves shared oral histories, reimagining the symbolism of the clan animals while incorporating the landscape of Lake Superior’s North Shore. Join Zimmerman at Mt. Royal to view his work and hear the artist share about his process and vision. Mon. February 5 5:30-6:30 pm Blue Baby Storytime • Birth to 24 months Join us for a brief storytime ideal for babies 0-24 months, then stay for some early literacy playtime and socialization. Mt. Royal Book Club: Still Life • Adults Meet at Mount Royal to discuss fiction and non-fiction titles! February’s title is Still Life by Louise Penny. Inspector Armand Gamache is called to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. The locals are certain it’s just a tragic hunting accident, but Gamache smells something afoul. March’s selection will be Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Wed. February 7 3:00-4:00 pm Blue Wed. Beginners and experienced researchers alike are invited to come in and learn from the experts of the Twin Ports Genealogical Society. This is a hybrid gathering, with the option to meet in person or via Zoom. Registration can be found on the library events calendar and only needed to receive the Zoom link. Mon. February 12 6:00-7:30 pm Blue Pal-entine Get-Together: Paper Quilling • Teens & Adults Gather your pals for a night of crafting! We will first go over and practice the paper quilling technique. Then use your new skills to create your unique tree and decorate to your heart’s desire! All supplies will be provided. Registration is required to reserve your spot.
