Sugar Bush Babies: Author Visit with Janis A. Fairbanks

Janis A. Fairbanks will discuss her new memoir, Sugar Bush Babies: Stories of My Ojibwe Grandmother. Through the eyes of a child and the teachings of an elder, she revisits her life during Indian Relocation, taking us home with her through stories of childhood and lessons learned at her grandmother’s knee on the Fond du Lac Reservation. No registration needed.

Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club • Adults

Discuss compelling stories within the Sci-Fi & Fantasy genre at this monthly book club. New members are always welcome. November’s selection is The Spirit Bares Its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White. Silas, a young trans man, is sent to finishing school to be trained as a wife and medium. When ghosts of past students are in need, Silas must do all he can to help. No registration needed. Beading Jewelry with Airlea Defoe • Adults

Join local artist, Airlea Defoe, for a beaded jewelry class at the library. This program is exclusively for adults and all skill levels are welcome, whether you are completely new to beading or if you have experience. Space is limited; registration is required. About the Artist: Airlea Defoe has been beading for 15 years. She has taught at the Duluth Art Institute and local schools. Airlea is indigenous to the area and an enrolled member of Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Join us for a special dinosaur-themed edition of the library’s Saturday morning indoor play series, Wiggles for Littles! We will learn about these prehistoric creatures through storytime, exploration, and play. No registration needed.

Ojibwe Family Storytime • PreK-Grade 3/All Ages

Waste Free Gift Wrap • All Ages

Tired of holiday gift-giving waste?

An educator from Resource Renew (formerly WLSSD) will share ideas for waste-free gift wrap, including furoshiki tying, creative upcycling, and household reuse. Book Bingo at Lake Superior Zoo • All Ages
