Summer Reading kickoff with the Duluth Huskies

Saturday, June 8 • 10:30-11:30 am • Wade Stadium (101 N 35th Ave W.)

Help us kick off a fun summer of reading with the Duluth Huskies at Wade Stadium. Players will be reading stories and signing autographs—remember to bring your favorite ball, glove, or book to get it signed! Kids and teens in attendance will receive a free youth ticket (while supplies last) to the Books & Baseball Game on Sunday, July 21, 2024.

Annual Summer Book Sale

Build your home library and contribute to a good cause at the same time! All proceeds go to support the Duluth Public Library in offering free events to the community. The four day sale takes place at the Main Library (520 W. Superior St.) on the Michigan St. level. This year, card processing will be available, in addition to cash and checks.

Natural Connections Series • Pre-K to Teen

CONNECTING WITH OUR PLANT & ANIMAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS

Natural Connections is an environmental literacy series that offers seasonal activities that invite youth explore and develop their relationships with our plant and animal community members. We kick the series off in the library’s garden space on the upper plaza! Participants will get to meet some of our new garden friends while engaging in a variety of hands-on activities: garden crafts, a STEM activity, and a reading lounge with plant and gardening books!

Come on down to see BIG trucks on the plaza! There will be a variety of vehicles on the plaza for everyone to enjoy! Folks of all ages are welcome to interact with the vehicles, take pictures, and talk with the drivers.

Slither into the world of reptiles to meet the species that call Minnesota and Wisconsin home! You’ll get to watch a salamander eat, debunk turtle myths, touch snakes, and more! Time is reserved after the presentation to touch and hold the reptiles for a truly hands-on experience. Registration is required. Presented by Snake Discovery. Geared for elementary age to teen.

Teen Adventures: Read & Ride with the Duluth Public Library

Teens in grades 6-12! Spend the afternoon biking, hammocking, and reading a book of your choice.

Wed. June 26 12:00-4:00 pm Offsite

Please meet at the Main Library Plaza on Michigan Street. Transportation will then be provided from the library to the location for biking and reading. Bikes, helmets, and hammocks will be provided. Lunch will also be provided from Erberts & Gerberts with vegan options available. Bring your own book! Kaleidoscope on the Library Plaza • Main Library

Join us on the library plaza for Kaleidoscope’s 45th season! These 60-minute programs are held rain or shine. Children under 8 should be accompanied by an adult. You are welcome to bring blankets to sit on but please leave pets and chairs at home. ASL interpretation will be provided for afternoon performances every week.

Invasive Plant Species Identification • Adults

Duluth CISMA Coordinator, Lori Seele, will be presenting on multiple invasive plant species in the area. Learn to identify these plants and the ways to help eradicate them in our yards and neighborhoods. Weather permitting, there will be a short walk around the West Duluth Branch in order to identify native and non-native plants. Registration is required.

Stuffy Sleepover!

Stuffy Sleepover at the West Duluth Branch

Drop your stuffy off for a sleepover at the library! We will ask participants to complete a short bio for their fluffy friend and make a name tag. That night, your stuffy will have a rockin’ time making new friends, reading stories, and maybe even solving a mystery at the library. Space is limited-please register to reserve your stuffy's sleepover spot. A sleepover storybook will be created and be available for pick up the week of July 8-12. We recommend that participants NOT bring their favorite, can’t-go-a-night-withoutthem stuffy!
