E258,000 BOOST FOR COMMUNITY FACILITIES

onore and Duleek’s community facilities have got a massive boost with over €250,000 in funding granted to the village projects! Both received grants from Meath Leader, with Donore receiving €100,000 and Duleek getting €95,000, and in addition, Donore also received a Sports Capital Grant of 63,000. ‘We are absolutely delighted!’ was the response from Frank Gogarty, chair of finance committee at St Mary’s GAA club. ‘Our finance committee of myself, Pat Lenehan, Tony Craven and Martin McMahon plus Eugene McLoughin, club treasurer, has worked hard on these applications over the past two years, but it has paid off now.’ Phase 1 of St Mary’s development was constructing the dressing rooms which are now finished. Phase 2 is constructing a community centre for the use of the whole parish of Donore Rosnaree. Fundraising has been ongoing for a number of years – and is continuing currently with the sale of life membership to

the club for €1,000 where the donor’s name is engraved on a plaque in the new centre; the Croke Park €10 draw tickets are on sale now; and pitch-side advertising is also on sale for €1,000 for a five year display. The Donore community facility received €90,000 from Irish Cement Ltd over the past 9 years which really established the fund, plus €120,000 from Indaver over the past two years, the €100,000 from Meath Leader in October, and the €63,500 from the Sports Capital Grant in November. It is believed that the next phase of the project will cost in excess of €300k, plus additional site works costs.

Local councillor Sharon Keogan has welcomed the money to the area, saying, ‘These facilities will enhance the whole community and will provide top-class sporting and meeting facilities in the heart of these rural communities.’ Chair of Duleek Community Facility, Oliver Cudden, said, ‘The Management Committee is delighted that our Meath Leader funding application has been approved. The €95,000 allocation now brings our Building Fund to €645,000, either pledged or received.’ He went on to say that the application process is hard work, and thanked Hugh Doogan for project managing it.’
