Storied Woods
by Lexy Russell she/her, '23
The leaves tumble Down Down Down Forever around you like emerald confetti, Whispering the tree's sweet songs. Your subconscious mind follows their voices Yearning for somewhere new and untouched ... An escape That smiles at you in beams of filtered sun, Like a child's innocent dream Twirling dresses and laced up brown boots Darting through vines and forest shrubbery, searching Hidden worlds under the cover of the treetops Lost loves and intricate concealed swords Elves and dwarves and hobbits and giant spiders A land of discovery, a prickle on the back of your neck A sense of mystery and excitement, Adrenaline flowing through your veins As you run back to the person you missed the most. There was a hole in your heart, but it's been filled by the all-consuming embrace of nature This is the sort of adventure that the forest alludes to, Watches over, as you stroll down a well-worn path.
