Duke in touch

Connecting Duke Physical Therapy alumni, students, faculty, clinicians, and friends | Summer 2018

Duke PT’s new home is rising quickly! “This new building represents a historic moment for our Doctor of Physical Therapy Division. By creating a campus presence, our PT students will strengthen important connections to clinical services and to campus life.” Mary E. Klotman, MD, dean, Duke University School of Medicine

uke Physical Therapy has come a long way since our first home in the basement of Duke Hospital. On March 27, 2018, we broke ground on a 102,000-square foot building that will house Duke’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, as well as the portions of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, School of Nursing, and Interprofessional Education and Care. The five-story building on Trent Drive will include a large, state-of-the-art lab and a classroom that emphasizes team-based learning. Construction is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2019 with a move-in date for the fall semester of 2019.

See live construction updates and time-lapse videos here. The move to our new home will cap off a year-long celebration of the Duke Physical Therapy Program’s 75th anniversary. The celebration begins in September 2018 with a weekend of parties, continuing education, an evening gala, and a book detailing the program’s history. See page 3 for more on the 75th anniversary celebration.
