A triathlon race consists of a swim in the sea, followed by a bike ride and finishing with a run. To be successful requires lots of motivation and determination during the weeks of hard training prior to a race. A little shorter than the Triathlon is an Aquathon, which consists of a swim followed by a run. These are good for beginners and give you a chance to warm up before the big races come! During the triathlon season from October 2005 until April 2006 there have been many triathlons, duathlons and aquathons organised mainly by the Dubai Tri Club. These have been held at numerous venues: Events: Dubai Td Club Aquathon - 20th October 2005 - Jumeirah Beach Club Dubai Tri Club Sprint Triathlon — 16th December 2005 — Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa Dubai Tri Club Duathlon — 2nd February 2006 — Al Jazeera Hotel & Resort Dubai Tri Club Olympic/Sprint/Junior Triathlon — 17th March 2006 — Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa Aquathon — 31st March 2006 — Jumeirah Beach Club Dubai Tri Club Aquathon — 28th April 2006 — Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Dubai College has many successful triathletes (probably more than any other school) of which the most frequent and successful contestants are: Carina Rodd, Jennifer Adamson Matthew Rivers, Jamie Shirlaw, Cody Duncan, Sam Adamson, Shaun Seaman, Claire Rivers, Andrew Chetcuti and Carlyn Lobo. Also competing were Tom Pollock, Ben Pollock, Mike Geeson, Jon Cottrell, Hannah Flower, Owain Jones, Edward Otty and Stuart Allen. But it's not only the students who compete in these races; various teachers who have also participated in them are Mr. Jones (DT), Mr. Agent and Mr. Grist, The most popular distance for triathlons/Aquathons amongst DC students is the Junior course: Triathlon: 400m swim, 10km bike, 2.5km run. Aquathon: 400m swim, 2.5km run. However, Carina Rodd, Matthew Rivers and Jamie Shirlaw this year participated in the Open Female and Open Male categories with distances double that of the junior course. Carina and Matthew both finished 2nd in their Open categories at the Dubai Tri Club Sprint Triathlon on 17th March 2006. They continued to do well throughout the season: Jennifer Adamson and Matthew came 1st in their categories in the Long Distance Aquathons, and Carina finished 2nd repeatedly.
