In June 2013, a group of eighteen University of Denver professors gathered for an institute devoted to writing in the university’s First Year Seminar (FSEM) and Advanced Seminar (ASEM) programs. In concert with extended conversations, everyone completed a short article about a writing issue—in the compressed stretch of a single week. This volume presents the results. The brief essays are organized into four broad groups: writing to learn vs. learning to write; issues in first-year writing seminars; issues emerging from faculty experiences teaching advanced seminars; and broader issues of writing in both freshmen and advanced seminars.
