RUC Vineyards is designed around creating wine and informing visitors about sustainable wine. Located in southwestern Germany in the hills of the Rhine Valley it is placed at the bottom of steep wine growing hills. Through both design and the harvest process this vineyard hopes to educate both wine lovers and forward thinking people. RUC Vineyards also offers a student experience where students from a local school can live and work to learn more about the wine-making process. With architecture focused to showcase lovely views of the Rhine there is always a great place to try the wine.

Building Model

Reflections Critiques from Final Presentation: Add in electric cars and a shuttle, encourage ways for people to get around without them - better biking path. Add in educational dashboard to building so people can see how much energy you are creating Better layout integration with the landscape for green roof More back of house required in the restaurant Be even greener - the shuttle, electric, green cleaning, building materials, irrigation organic , composting, go even farther Use fly ash and re-purposed aggregates/ local

in the concrete.

Personal Reflections: My goal through out the year was to try to push and create a more sustainable winery than I have came in contact with and I feel like I have succeeded in that. There are definitely ways in which I could have been more sustainable but I did not want to sacrifice some of the design. I did struggle with finding the right scale of my building, originally being way too large and scaling a little bit too far back in the end with not creating enough back of house space. I really like having a variety of angled cut outs and floor plates but that did cause a few issues with structure and trying to make any angled spaces not feel weird and left out. Overall, my senior project has been a changing experience that has helped me to explore an overall building experience that I truly loved the concept of. Thank you to everyone who has helped me through this experience including my advisor Kelly, It would not have been the same with out you all.
