This booklet was first printed in 1992, with four revisions released since then. The booklet has been widely distributed throughout Queensland and online as a helpful resource for those seeking to find more information relating to eating disorders. We thank the EDQ staff and board members who have contributed to the development of Understanding Eating Disorders 2021. Contributing writers include Emma Trappett, Emily Stanley-Pickering, Melissa Cheras, Belinda Chelius, Rohie Marshall, and Catherine Doyle. We also thank Dr. Leanne Barron for her contributions to this booklet.
We would like to respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which Eating Disorders Qld operate, and Elders past, present and emerging. Honouring the women elders in diverse communities of which we are a part. Celebrating the extraordinary diversity of bodies, genders, sexualities, capacities, and relationships that we all represent. We acknowledge the lived experience of those with an eating disorder and other mental health issues. We also acknowledge those impacted by suicide or substance use and the contribution that families, friends, carers and professionals make to their recovery. We respect and value their opinions and integrate their opinions into serviced delivery and change. Respect is also due to those in the community who have tirelessly advocated for positive social and political change. Particularly around issues predominantly impacting women and children including women’s rights, equality, sexual and domestic violence, and changes for the LGBTIQ+ community.
