Purpose
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. The sorority has 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, and Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, West Africa, and the Republic of Korea.
Mission Statement
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an organization of college educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to public ser vice with a primary focus on the Black community.

On February 28, 1959, twenty women of vision met at Dobbs Training School, a state supported school for troubled, young black girls, to organize a chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. The charter members strive to emulate the goals and visions created by the twenty-two dynamic undergraduate women who founded the sorority in 1913 at Howard University. The women worked hard and planned for the day when Jennie Taylor, Regional Director, presented them with their Charter. They were elated to realize their dreams had come true as they united with hundreds of chapters across the nation to promote the ideals and principles of Delta. Thus, on February 28, 1959, the Kinston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was established.
The Charter members were Eloise Beech, Eunice Wing, Alberta Hines, Jeanette Cogdell, Virginia Payton, Kenneth Ann Banks, Geraldine Grice, Dorothy Carraway, Mae D. Holmes, Eva M. Best, Mary K. Elliott, Zoldine W. Banks, Mary T. Brinson, Mankie Durham, Ernestine Holmes, Marselette B. Morgan, Esther Cogdell, Hester J. Smith, Althea Tillery, and Glen Esther Vines.
Over the past sixty years, we have initiated many women whose loyalty and devotion to Delta have been remarkable. Many sorors have relocated and affiliated with other chapters. In addition, we have been saddened by the loss of those sisters that transitioned to the Omega Omega Chapter. In spite of our losses, the Chapter continues to grow as we welcome new sisters.
Public service is based upon the chapter membership, resources, and interests, as well as community needs. Prior to 1955, the original five points for public service thrusts were Library Service, Job Opportunities, Delta Volunteers for Community Service, the International Project and Mental Health. The intent of the current Five-Point Programmatic Thrust is to narrow Delta’s outreach and focus the Sorority’s efforts in those areas where the contributions would be most meaningful. These programs include: Educational Development, Economic Development, Physical and Mental Health, Political Awareness and Involvement, and International Awareness and Involvement.
The “Torch” continues to be held high, as we keep the National goals of our Sorority at the forefront of program planning and development, service and scholarship will remain paramount.

Based on an interpretation of the classic, Alice in Wonderland, written by an English mathematician, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. established the Jabberwock Pageant in 1925.
In Carroll’s book, the mythical character, the Jabberwocky” summons all the creatures in the kingdom to perform in a gala event.
For more than 97 years, chapters from around the globe have implemented this evening of pageantry and entertainment to provide the community’s most promising young men and women an opportunity to raise scholarship funds.
Participants also take part in educational, cultural, and public service opportunities which allow them to grow personally and form lifelong relationships.

Along with being a dedicated member of FFH for two years, Aimee has also persistently pursued her passion for FCLA for five years. She initiated her journey with FCLA in middle school and has consistently exhibited exceptional skills and unwavering commitment Moreover, Aimee energetically cheered for three years and played softball for one season, demonstrating her athletic prowess.
Aimee’s future aspiration is to attend East Carolina University, following in her mother’s footsteps. She has set her sights on becoming an OB/GYN and intends to major in nursing. She is convinced that having a physician who resembles them will make her patients feel more comfortable and relatable. Aimee has a passion for traveling during her leisure time. Additionally, Aimee is fond of shopping, an interest she inherited from her mother.
Aimee and her family are proud members of Greater Mt. Zion Church, which her late grandfather, Bud Banks of Kinston, NC, also attended. This church is renowned for being a supportive community that brings people together for worship and fellowship.
