Our purpose as a company is to create brighter lives for all. We cannot be successful, nor even call ourselves successful, in a world that fails. If we are to feed, sustainably and responsibly, the 9.7 billion people who are expected to share our planet by 2050, the time to change is now. Our work supports the development of a more sustainable global animal production industry.
By harnessing science and working in partnership with our customers, we’re helping to deliver sustainable animal farming that respects animals, people and planet whilst delivering the volume, price and margin customers demand and the farming community is capable of supplying.
As these challenges have become more advanced, so too has our offer which we’ve transitioned into three business lines:
High quality vitamins, premixes and carotenoids
Essential nutrition is fundamental to the production of healthy, sustainable animal protein. Our Essential Products provide vital nutrients for the healthy growth and development of farm animals — delivered to the customer in the most flexible, tailored way.
Eubiotics, enzymes, mycotoxin deactivators and our 25-OH D3 product, Hy-D®
Our Performance Solutions are designed to improve the sustainability and profitability of animal farming. Our broad portfolio delivers the level of functional nutrition needed for the industry to meet the challenges of sustainability, animal welfare, and feed quality.
Sustell™, our global sustainability service and Verax™, our animal health management service
Greater precision in animal farming is key to a more sustainable and profitable future. We use the latest data analytics and diagnostics to improve animal health, lifetime performance, resource use and environmental footprint — while mitigating risks and unlocking more value.

Pure active substances of feed micro-nutrients may look attractive but most times, are impossible to be used by animals unless they are properly formulated as feed additives and added into premix, feed or drinking water before the animals gets access to them: the right amount of each nutrient, day after day. It is about mixing grams or milligrams in one ton of feed with animals eating few grams of feed per day, certainly not an easy task!
How to do it? Following the product formulation fundamentals where the high safety and quality of both the active substance and raw materials, combined with appropriate formulation technology, result in product forms consistently delivering an optimal combination of desirable characteristics and tested in their final application.
For maximum efficacy, dsm-firmenich feed additives are formulated for:
• low dust and best handling: safe for workers
• good flowability: more efficient dosing operations and less product losses
• best homogeneity in premix and feed
• superior stability in premix and feed: right daily intake of nutrients by animals
• high bioavailability: allowing an efficient absorption and best biological use by the animals
• m anufactured with the lowest environmental footprint for more sustainable farming
Our goal? Achieve the best balance between Handling, Mixability, Stability and Bioavailability depending on the specific application challenges that each nutrient may face.
Enable application in the target matrix
Safe, efficient and sustainable ha ndling
U niform mixing
A nimals receiving the right amount of feed additives every day for o ptimum health
Protection in the digestive tract
Stabilization of crystalline and liquid active substances
Proper release of the nutrient in the animal target tissue/organ
Functional ingredients for our products are produced by chemical synthesis, fermentation or extraction or by a combination of these technologies. Once the basic compound is produced, it may be further processed to a more stable chemical form. To achieve specific product characteristics the ingredients go through a formulation process designed to meet optimal animal nutrition needs.

Optimum Vitamin Nutrition (OVN®) is about feeding animals high-quality vitamins in the right amounts and ratios appropriate to their life-stage and growing conditions. OVN® guidelines help nutritionists keep current with advancements in vitamin nutrition, following, but not limited by, NRC, AAFCO and FEDIAF guidelines.
(TMAS) is dsm-firmenich’s analysis team that performs testing and analyzes product forms, premixes and finished products. TMAS completed 11,572 assays in 2023. TMAS offers blend plant support in the following forms: process monitoring, inquiry, homogeneity, positive release, carry over, flush, customer quality monitoring, qualification, customer inquiries, customer studies, and innovation projects. TMAS also supports NA customers with routine submissions, problem-solving, and stability studies.
Nutritional Services helps customers with a wide range of support including premix formulation and labeling, third-party raw material assessment and approval, process monitoring programs for raw materials and finished products, premix documentation (specification, SDSs, product certifications), production support and regulatory compliance.
Romer Labs located in Union, Missouri, conducts routine mycotoxin screening to help customers identify and detect mycotoxins in their feedstuffs. The routine mycotoxin panel screens for six major mycotoxin categories including 17 different metabolites. More extensive testing for emerging mycotoxins and ergot alkaloids is available upon request.
As part of dsm-firmenich’s commitment to sustainability, we can provide EPDs for vitamins (ROVIMIX® A, ROVIMIX® AD3, ROVIMIX® B6, ROVIMIX® Calpan, ROVIMIX® D3, ROVIMIX® E 50, ROVIMIX® Folic 80, Hy·D®, and STAY-C® 35) and six enzymes upon request.
EPDs are company-provided documents which calculate via product Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) the environmental impacts (usually in greenhouse gas terms of kg CO2 equivalent/kg of product) of a given product throughout its life cycle. Product life cycle includes all impacts from raw materials through production and manufacturing, transport, and eventual recycling (cradle-to-gate environmental footprint).
The Digest is a monthly e-newsletter for those interested in keeping up with the latest news, product and technical information and recent research from dsm-firmenich North America. Articles are tailored by specie and written by our dsm-firmenich subject experts. Topics include premix quality, mycotoxin challenges, enzyme optimization, vitamin deficiencies and more!
Mycotoxin Monthly is the longest running and most comprehensive data set on mycotoxin occurrence. Since 2004, the Mycotoxin Survey annual research analyzes thousands of agricultural commodity samples (corn, wheat, barley, rice, soy, silage and finished feed, etc.) from across the world as part of the PROcheck mycotoxin risk management warning system to identify the occurrence of mycotoxin-related risks to swine, poultry, beef and dairy cattle.
The Academy is our unique series of events that offers a deep dive into understanding the fundamentals of animal nutrition and health. The Academy events are offered two to three times per year at our dsm-firmenich premix plant sites throughout North America. Targeted to nutritionists, veterinarians and procurement, our events are tailored to helping our customers better understand vitamins, premixes, mycotoxins, enzymes and phytogenics.
