1: SENIOR BOWL GAME

TRADITIONAL MEDIA

Together, we’ve worked to build a stronger brand presence in traditional media while responding to two changes over recent years: cobranding with Reese’s and narrowing media trade budgets.

To stand out in traditional media at a level attractive to national sponsors such as Reese’s, we built the campaign around two lines fans/consumers have responded strongly to. “A Sunday Player’s Last Saturday” establishes the brand’s unique importance to both college and professional football; “It’s In Your Blood” applies that position to the region’s traditions of rivalry and love for the game.

Reese’s Senior Bowl won the award for Best Integrated Campaign in the American Advertising Federation’s Mobile Bay competition.

We place digital display advertising programmatically, that is, through a network off ad exchanges that allow us to run display ads on a variety of sites, not under common ownership. Because we know that the site-specific ad placement isn’t nearly as important as person-specific ad placement, we utilize behavior and online consumption habits to optimize ad placement and reach users in the best position to receive your message.

Induction Dinner

There are NFL debuts – and then there was Kareem Hunt’s NFL debut.

The third-round draft pick out of Toledo exploded onto the NFL scene with a record-breaking 246 total yards and three touchdowns in his first career game – against the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots.

It was a sign of things to come.

He finished his rookie campaign as the NFL’s leading rusher with 1,327 yards and 11 total touchdowns – only the sixth rookie to ever lead the league in rushing and the first rookie not drafted in the first round to lead the league in rushing in 50 years.

Hunt set an NFL record with at least 100 yards of total offense in each of his first seven career games. He was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month in September and December.

In addition to his incredible season as a runner, he had 53 receptions for 455 yards and his 1,782 total yards ranked third in the NFL in 2017.

He was named the NFL Rookie of the Year by the Professional Football Writers of America.

June 6-8, 2018

SCOUT SCHOOL f LYER

Open to 20 participants on a first-come, first-serve basis. $300 registration includes two day expert scout-school instruction and one day of scout-school application plus hotel (nights of June 5, 6 and 7, with a roommate), breakfast and lunch. In a classroom setting, lectures include topics such as the history of the draft, grading offensive and defensive positions, tape review, writing reports and the realities of a football life.

“Phil is an excellent teacher, he starts the course with a simple foundation and builds up in complexity so that all in attendance - from beginner to advanced - can learn and become better evaluators. The course booklet is full of great scouting terms, knowledge and anecdotes that still use to this day.” -Robbie Paton, Denver Broncos

“The Reese’s Senior Bowl Scout School provided me with a unique opportunity to learn from current and former NFL Player Personnel staff members with real world experiences at all levels in the industry, which prepared me for the rigors of winning a

spot in an NFL Front Office. My experience gave me an advantage that most aspiring player personnel professionals aren’t able to gain.” -Michael Pierce, Los Angeles Rams

“Scout School is the place to be. It is an amazing opportunity to learn the intricacies of evaluating personnel. You will be equipped with a foundation to set yourself apart from your peers. Not to mention the networking opportunities from former and current NFL scouts and college personnel.” -Micheal Young, The Scouting Academy

Scout School will be held beginning 8 a.m. June 6 & 7 at the Reese’s Senior Bowl Headquarters in downtown Mobile. Space is limited to the first 20 participants.

Please make checks payable to Reese’s Senior Bowl Football Initiatives and mail to:

buiLd MoMeNTuM iN The Pre-draFT Process - The Reese’s Senior Bowl is the first of three steps in the NFL Draft process (with Combine/ Pro Day) that pro teams want you to attend – and in the eyes of the NFL, it’s the most important. You will get a jump start on the draft process while others have to wait another month to start at the NFL Combine.

eXPosure - Begin and build valuable relationships with all 32 clubs as more than 1,000 representatives from the NFL invade Mobile, Alabama, to attend Senior Bowl Week activities. They will watch you practice, play, and every team will get to know you on a personal level through one-on-one informal/formal interviews.

NFL coachiNG - Be a pro for the week as you go to meetings to learn the pro game and practice under the guidance of an entire NFL staff. Every player walks away improved and with a better understanding of what is expected at the next level.

TRADE m EDIA RELATIONSHIPS

In September of each year, we begin negotiations with our 35+ media partners, introducing them to the partnership options for the upcoming game, negotiating their total contribution level as well as schedule and placement. Over the past 7 years of managing the Senior bowl media, we’ve seen drastic changes to the media landscape, including:

• New restrictions on trade advertising. As a result of corporate buyouts, several local television stations no longer have flexibility in trade agreements. Stations that previously contributed $40,000+ are restricted by corporate policies that limit trade agreements to $5,000, therefore restricting the on-air schedule to a couple of weeks as opposed to months.

• A significant decrease in print readership. In addition, as a result of staff cuts, a long term relationship between the Press Register and the Senior bowl was lost. Where the newspaper used to contribute over $120,000 in print and digital placement to Senior bowl, their contribution has significantly decreased to less than $20,000, with a request or cash each year, and one year of very poor execution of a digital ad plan.

• Requests for dollar for dollar trade. Prior to 2014, we offered only one trade package. Over the past 4 years, we’ve worked together with Julie to develop a level of tiered partnership packages with an exact dollar for dollar value, taking into account changes each year, such as the removal of Seafood Jubilee from the offering.

Digital

2017 was the first year we dedicated cash to Senior bowl media. We monitored a trend of decreasing total trade contributions for 4+ years, and identified the need to supplement the decline. Not only did we witness the decline of trade media, but the advertising industry as a whole shifted spend from traditional mediums to digital. We approached a local digital media outlet with an opportunity to trade and they were not interested. As a result, in order to boost the brand, we started with a minimal cash buy of a 6-month digital run.

*One particular cable outlet valued their 2013 contribution at over $430,110 for 10,962 spots by counting every spot in every zone. A more realistic value for their contribution should have been around $10,000. We do not have access to these records to pull an accurate count as this buy was performed by an agency that is no longer in business and this cable provider has merged with another.
