Our board members, staff and volunteer leaders have analyzed the challenges and opportunities present in the marketplace, and we understand the needs of our membership and the interior design industry more broadly. As a result, new committees have been formed that better connect Industry Professionals with Students. This summer and early fall, you will have many ways to connect to design students including Adopting a Student, Catching the bus to Metrocon, or viewing vignettes created by student chapters.

This year’s Awards Committee is pleased to announce the “Call for Entry” or the 2014 ASID Design Awards, which will take place on October 11th! Our Committee is very excited to announce details for Houston’s most prestigious design competition. Committee Members have been talking to many designers and IP members and are implementing changes that will make this year’s competition more exciting and competitive. We have created new categories which will give you flexibility to find the best way to showcase your work and impress the Judges. As in the past, Judges for the competition are ASID members from other ASID Chapters who judge entries based on design criteria including appropriate design solution, functional use of space/element, quality and clarity, scale and proportion, creativity and originality, color composition, effective use of lighting and relationship of materials, and textures and patterns. The ASID TGCC Social Network By Michelle Stream, Allied ASID Thank you for joining us for all the fun we have been having with the ASID Social Network! These events have been well attended and a great casual way to meet people and learn about local restaurants, bars and hotels. We are looking for a new Social Network chair and members as our current chair Michelle Stream - is joining the board again as Membership Director! Please let us know if you are interested!! michellestream@gmail.com In April we visited the new restaurant 60째 Mastercrafted and the chef spoke to us about his concept, execution and things to come. It is a great new restaurant that you will be happy to visit! In May we had a great turnout at Hotel Zaza and had a tour of some of the ballrooms. Hotels are always such an adventure! By this time we will have had the June event at Mongoose vs. Cobra. This is a sister bar to one we visited early on - 13째 Celsius. If this one was anything like 13째 Celsius, it is going to be awesome! Look out for the second Wednesday of each month as the event date. We have Trenza for July, Sambuca and a tour of Rice Hotel is set up for us in August, lots to ponder for September's event and start planning your Halloween costume for our annual Social Network Halloween Bash at Ferguson. We will be having even better costume contests!!!

At last, a 21st century technology designed for a more efficient home storage solution and improved home value. Auto-Lad is a fully electronically controlled ladder. At the press of a button or of a remote, it’s advanced circuit board allows the electronic unlatching of the panel, its opening, extending and de-energizing of the electric motor when Auto-Lad is fully extended. Depressing the same push button or remote allows retracting of Auto-Lad and when fully retracted, the closure of the panel and it’s automatic re-latching followed by the de-energizing of the electric motor. For high reliability and safety of operation, Auto-Lad has no position sensors but will stop if an obstacle is in it’s way. While designed for a typical attic space, this structurally superior and sophisticated operating ladder can also be used to substitute stairs in a loft to add privacy and additional room space below.
