Park Toorenvliedt is a meeting place par excellence. You can go hiking, relax on a park bench or in the large playground. From the first bunker at the main entrance children can do a treasure hunt past the bunkers. There is also a route-app: WWII Heritage. This can be used offline and is free to download via Wi-Fi at the Museum bunker. The route passes the eleven World War II bunkers and tells you about their history. For children there are several playground locations. There is also a basketball court.
TOORENVLIEDT SURROUNDS
This city park is attractive to visitors who are nature lovers. Its route passes bunkers, through the big field, past the ponds, bridges and greens. Large open spaces are intermingled by paths through more wooded areas. The IVN Department Walcheren allows you to discover the assets of this park in a natural way; for this purpose, they organise regular excursions through the park. The Tourist shop in Middelburg offers a special folder with the park’s walking tracks. This contains relevant information about the park and its natural attractions. Toorenvliedt used to be a country retreat area. To escape the busy city during the summer months the upper middle class used to come here to relax. The manor house dates back to the 18th century but the retreat location itself is even older. This is now one of the few remaining country retreats on Walcheren that is still intact.
